G'day all, I was wondering if anyone has ever thought about putting an upswept muffler on their tuber? eg. a yoshi, micron etc.
Now I know about keeping all your weight low, clean lines, is this dude a heretic, etc....
I was just asking because as most of us have our exhaust outlets directly under the butt( wait for it!!), I can't be the only one who is concerned about slowly but surely killing the good ol' hearing.
I currently have a modified stock exhaust and it is quieter than my old race kit I had on, but it is still barky.
I can put my old stock choker can back on, but the old midrange delay will be back.

Now don't get me wrong. I love the deep grumble of the m2, but the ringing in my ears does concern me. And yes I do wear earplugs and no I am not old!!!

So maybe I thought if I could get that grumble behind me out the back, perhaps it could help. The exhaust pipe would ideally come out between the rear wheel and the shocky pivot arm of the swingarm. It would need to be carefully positioned so that the shocky pivot arm would not hit it during any of it's travel. Then the exhaust pipe would go into a slip on upswept muffler which would be located behind the r/h passenger footpeg. Naturally the muffler would need to be rubber iso-mounted at that attachment point on the frame.

I know it would be a bit radical, it's just an idea. Has it been tried already? Any comments?

Hope I won't be taken out and shot, hung, etc.

I've never seen anyone try it. I do wonder about hearing impairment, since I have a Force exhaust (only one of the loudest exhaust known for tubers) and I do a lot of touring. More often now I use my iPhone headphones to listen to music while riding, and to slightly quiet the sound, but I plan to find some some nice in-ear headphones so I can quiet the background noise and hear the music at a lower volume.

The exhaust were a custom build by a Harley dealer in California they made 7 of theses bikes and all the donor bikes came up from Australia It took us a more than a year to get the title as the vin numbers were from Australia, This is the only one we know of that is on the road driving. I have heard unsubstantiated claims of where the bikes actually went to. But i have driven this bike and it is sweet. Al lighton @ americansportbike knows a lot about these bikes as he was the supplier of most of the parts for these bikes. This particular bike was won off a sobe drink raffle. It has the 6 speed tranny, And to many mods to list.

If you notice the tail section has been raised up to allow the tail pipes to fit and the battery was relocated up under the seat and ecm move up 5" to the top of the rear head for clearance purposes.
here is a link for the exhaust sound. Sorry its later at night so you cant see all the bling!

Bub makes or made a dual exhaust that has one pipe on each side but the mufflers are down low. I know that they made it for the X1 as I bought it on Ebay. The seller who works for Dave Perewtiz had it listed as fitting S1. It worked out Ok as I gave him a few more bucks and got a set of PM 4piston front calipers for my Road King in exchange.

The ghost rider bike may be sold, i talked to him 2 mins ago and it is up for an unadvertised 25k price this is the only time this will be offered EVER! we will not post it in the classifieds as we dont want to sell it but will for the above price!

PM only if your serious, Don't waste our time, this is why it wont be listed anywhere as we don't want to be bugged about this bike!!!!

I have heard the #1 bike went to nicholas cage for 80k
and 1 in a museum which sold for about 42k

In my opinion, nothing beats the original placement for the muffler.
So far everything i've seen looks like junk.

xldevil, that just looks too clownish IMHO, afterall, these bikes arent motocross, motard, or a joke. i'd rather have the look of the ducati exhaust in guells pic. or one of the r1's i mentioned before since they scream streetbike, or forget it all, join a rock band, and blame your hearing loss on that bitches

oh and last time i checked my comic book stash, blaze rode a cruiser not a sport bike...

Hey everyone, thanks for the comments. As I expected, some have tried, others not sure, and those who think no way. It seems anything thats attached to the exhaust system is fair game for b*stard...sorry customising(I'm slowly doing it too!!),but that exhaust system location is some sort of holy ground. LOL!!

Mine is in the stock location. White Brothers, E-Pipe. I am sure I might change the first time the ever spawning speed bumps on the roads around here put a big dent in mine. ALOT of suburban roads in PA in my area are putting NASTY speed bumps in them. I cannot figure out how they legally do it but there seems to be no standard height, length or warning sign standard for drivers. I guess it won't happen until someone gets hurt or killed on one of them that is too high or improperly labeled when someone hits one.

What they did here was to bring enough lawsuits over vehicle repair due to speed-bump damage. That caused private and city street gods to change there already deranged minds.

It seems somebody decided road hazards were cheaper than police patrols for speeders. Well don't make it cheaper sue the socks off'em!
Brake wear,tire damage,suspention damage,alighnment damage...get creative, It worked here.

Hey dreadnaught1 & Jstfrfun,
Both your comments here are very interesting and valid!!!

The one thing that has always attracted me to a Buell is because they are different.
The low slung, out of way muffler is one of those things I've always liked as it helps to make a Buell stand out in a sea of clone technology.
The downside (no pun intended) as you rightly point out Dreadnaught1, is that the same muffler is not always out of the way to different road conditions.
My muffler actually got bashed a while ago as my showa shock began to die and the road decided to punish me.
I hate to say it, but perhaps that's where the upswept and under seat muffs may have a bit of an advantage. But, I also understand the concept of maintaining a nice low CofG. Ughhh!!!.......

The thread here was more to do with someone's long term hearing being affected. (geezuz, why am I suddenly visualizing a lawyer rubbing his/her hands together at that one too!! LOL.)
Cheers

I have had a love hate relationship with the looks and function and style of the muffler. I like low center of gravity. I hate the availability and and lack of choice, unlike harley. I am half tempted to build a dual upswept ala Ducati or straight back 1 on each side design with harley sound, maybe minimal baffles. I like being different to a point. I did not run a Forcewinder because EVERYONE has one. I keep my WhiteBros E-pipe because everyone has a V&H. I guess if mustaches and goatees become too popular in my area I guess I will have to shave. LOL.

Dreadnaught, keep us updated, i too hate the small selection that we have for these bikes. Especially for the 96-98 bikes, your really screwed if you want a full system
