Dear Buellers,

I´m writing from Bremen/Germany - I have recently bought a 1991 RSS 1200. After owning a M2 and a XB9S the bike is quite different. I just tried to take of the rear rocker box in order to change the cams and use the latest version of seals but the clearance between one bolt and the frame is to tight. Does anyone know how to do this without removing the engine?

I thougt of using Andrews N4 cams - good idea?

The german version of the supertrapp exhaust has only 4 discs and an additional tube mounted - how many discs are supposed to be used?

The carb jetting is a 42 slow jet and a 160 main jet - I changed it to 45/170 but I think it still runs to lean - especially with a k&n filter installed. Do you have a recommendation?

Otherwise the bike makes me grin everytime I ride it. It had only 200 miles on it when I bougt it a few weeks ago! Its getting better and better...

Hi Sven! Is this the one which was for sale in MOTORRAD a few weeks ago? Willkommen im Club! I never had the tsnk off of my RSS but on the later tube frame Buells you had to use a cut off allen wrench to get to one of the rear bolts.... Is the RSS different from the M2? Cheers! Cornel

Cool bike. The # of discs and the carb jetting will bedirectly related. You ought to start looking for an old-school Sportster tuner with a dyno. Or just run Onahog's setup and see how it works for you.

You can still get the extended disc kits from Supertrapp and extra discs (the bolts that came in my 91's Supertrapp won't hold 14 discs) - but what do you mean by "additional tube"?

I have not changed rocker box gaskets, but I do have a cut down hex key like Buelltours mentioned for rockerbox and intake access on tubers.

XC...I gotta ask...Where did ya find this with only 200 miles?
Was it all functional?
They musta stored in a very good envioroment.
Make sure ya send Frank the vin # from it.
I personally would leave this bike as close to factory as possible...Nothing like a super clean factory virgin thats near 20 yrs old...
Frank and i no of a 1991 Rs with 111 miles and the bike has dry rot all over it...Shame, but a great piece to restore , none the less...HB

My Sporty´s 2-1 Supertrapp is running good and almost street legal with 20 discs.CV has a #45 idle and a #190 main jet installed.Using the K&N as well. That gives the thunderstormed Sportster engine the right kick.
The N4s are way too hot for non thunderstorms,IMHO.

Those were some outrageously expensive bikes when they were brand new.

The styling has aged well.

I've got my invoice on the desk and think I paid around $18,000 back in 1990. The bike, working from memory, was about $15,000 and I had a few things done before I took delivery.

I was buying gas for about $1.16/gal. You can do the math.

The German bikes may have had fewer plates in the exhaust because of noise, I don't remember.

More plates mean louder and more air moving, don't change the plates without fixing th ejetting.

The little cap thingy was required by TUV because they feared the exhaust gases hitting the rear tire and overheating it. Erik attempted to explain how that could not happen but the more technical he got the more pissed they seemed to get that some American Harley guy was giving them an engineering lesson. Erik surrendered and we put the little deflectors on.

Enjoy the bike.

Let the record reflect that in that story lies one, perhaps, of the funniest Buell stories ever. I'm not sure if my version is quite 100% true (if it were too many folks would deny it) but it certainly will have your sides splitting if you ever hear it and, mindful of Erik's "focus". .. it's at least damn sure plausible.

I'm quite sure that there were times that Dave2 (U and G) and Kimmy saved Buell!

Court...Where did yours go?...Just curious!

I always weld a little pipe onto my Super traps to deflect it over to the side...
My S2 slip on came with 12 discs and a closed cap...I added an open cap with a tip, 46 slow jet, 195 main, t storm heads and pistons, K&N filter and complete S/e ignition system...Runs great on reg fuel...
I put a S/e modlue on the RS, 18 discs, open cap with turnout, 45 slow, 185 main, and a k& N...Runs great, no pingin on reg fuel....Just my version for Canada runnin...

it is so cool to see these old things still around. The first time I ever seen a buell in real life it was a black 1990 rs and from that point on I have been a buell junkie.

Onahog How loud is the Supertrapp with the open end cap? I have 7 disk w/ the closed cap now and would like a little more air movement.

You can try drilling the end to see, but you get more fine control by adding discs.

Supertrapp sells a "half moon" to direct exhaust on one side from going straight out.

I took the baffle out of mine and made a plug to attach plates to. It has 24 plates and a open end cap. Super E jetting.

Mine was sold to a drug dealer in Wichita, KS who was later murdered. I have no idea where the bike ended up.

I've got tons of photos and a 3" file of all the correspondence and paperwork for the work I did to the bike.

It'd be interesting to run the VIN sometime and see if I could find it.

but what do you mean by "additional tube"?

What all German RS/RSS bikes wear (or at least wore when they were new):

German SuperTrapp extension

That pic is so old it's a scanned 35 mm film print,
