I rejetted the carb on my M2 today but I got stupid and wasn't paying attention so overtightened the choke cable and broke the plastic thread. Does anybody have one or is it something available from one of the vendors? Maybe it could be superglued but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hit the dealer, American Sport Bike, forum supporters or mikuni site for replacement cable/plunger assembly.

Thanks,RatBuell. I'm guessing I have to take the stupid carb off again to install it. Anybody done it? The shop manual doesn't cover that.

You got it the carb will need to be pulled.

The cable retainer is threaded into the carb body. If you have the parts manual, the exploded view will show you what needs to be done.

When it is removed from the carb, a washer, spring and the plunger will be attached. Transfer the washer, spring and plunger to the new cable. Screw your new assembly back into the carb body.

The spring pressure is what keeps the plunger from falling of.

old part number is:27349-96y(cable only)
27347-96y(kit)

I do not know the difference in the two.

Thanks very much. I just filled out the order form from one of the vendors. I could go down the street to the Harley dealer but I probably would have to orer it anyway.

I've replaced one on the wife's 02 XL without pulling the carb...but I had to have my triple-jointed monkey-knuckle fingers installed first. Easier to pull the carb, just be sure to lube up that carb to manifold boot so you don't get a nick or a leak!

I put a new boot on yesterday. I didn't find the fit to be really tight. Is that a problem? Hard to see how it could go together wrong. OTOH, I also replaced the intake seals and found that job to be much easier than it was reputed to be. Maybe my bike is just lucky.

The boot fit on the bare intake is pretty loose. The main concern is tightness between carb and intake. You should have to wriggle the carb in to get it to fit.

It goes on pretty easy but I did grease it up with some silicone grease. Maybe I better check it for splits and stuff when I take it off again.
