Getting ready for a week long tour first week in May -- doing brakes and such -- went to my dealer to get the updated primary shoe (chain adjuster assy) and my usual Buell Guy has left. The guy I delt with had trouble even finding a parts list for a Thunderbolt so he had no idea about an updated part. Ended up getting part # 39975-90A -- is that the updated version?
I hate to take it all apart to find out my replacement part is the old style-- Thanks Bneck

I believe the only difference is a thicker metal plate. s/ be easily discernable. The part# you have is correct and you s/ be all set. Here is a little more info: Go to "index" and click on "chain tensioner". http://home.comcast.net/~buellstuff/DonCastosS3Con ventionalWisdom.html#Primary%20Chain%20Tensioner

The old parts are no longer sold, The -90"A" is the big thumbs up. HD uses A, B, C, etc. to indicate updated parts.

Just changed mine a couple of months ago. There is a very discernable difference in the two. I was glad to see the plastic part on my original one was barely warn after eight years but the metal plate was at least twice if not three times as thick as the stocker. Very simple swap but as you know the primary cover has to be pulled. I was happy with the updated primary gasket though.

It's a good time for a shifter pawl adjustment, too.

The SHOE ASM. PN 39970-91 could stand the test if the PRIMARY CHAIN is not adjusted TOO TIGHT ...

The way you know the PRIMARY CHAIN is or has been adjusted TOO TIGHT is by looking at the plastic shoe ...

If it has chain groves it has been or is being adjusted TOO TIGHT !!!
