I know it's a bad-azz bike.

Shouldn't that exhaust pipe from the rear jug go OVER the frame?

What's the deal with the left front brake?
Aftermarket caliper? Can't make it out. The slotted discs look sort of Yamaha-ish...

Looks like dual front brakes w/ inverted forks, ala GSX-R front?

Yeah, what kind of frame is that? Looks like he chopped off the right side and possibly the left, too (that is, if it's not an old frame that didn't have the left side support).

The only thing I don't like is the Harley derby cover. Other than that, I think it looks pretty good.

It's a sportster HD fairing, 99 & later X1 frame, with his/her own sub-frame. Similar to some Duck Monster rear subs I've seen grafted. Twin nissin brake set up for tubers. There's been a hydraulic clutch set up for sporty's out for awhile.

+1 on what Farris said. There, at one time, was a dual front disc set up available to us. Haven't seen one for a long time though.

I think that bike looks pretty cool, just curious, are you a possible purchaser of this bike? Just noticed it looks like foreign plates.

Early frame? What did I miss? X1's can't get any earlier than the one I've got, did they move the exhaust to the outside of the frame at some point? I've not paid close enough attention and even if I did I don't think I've EVER seen another one out in public.

It was identified as an M2 on a french site IIRC. Obviously not stock M2 forks/front wheel. I've blown the pic up on the left side and think I can make out the M2 frame rail that runs by the oil tank but it disappears into the custom undertail. Also, its an early M2 gas tank which wouldn't fit the X1 framewithout mods. The seat is reaLLY be curious...seems to be a modified lateM2 seat but that seat would not fite snugly on the early (small) M2 tank.

the exhaust is obviously X1. But if you look at the frame rail running in front of the rear cylinder it runs staight to where the top rail of the upper passenger footpeg rail starts whereas the X1 has a bend in that area.

Also engine is M2.

I conclude it is in fact a much modified M2.

I like the billet turn signals...they blend in well and with the clear lenses are barely noticeable. Ditto on the taillight.

Only reaSOn I looked so closely is I am in the midst of doing a similar M2 cafe.

See what I'm talking about with the bend in the frame on the X1:

It's a either a 1997 M2, or an S1, plain and simple.

No front left frame support, hole on RH side for rear-head guard, cross-ways battery mounting, straight RH frame rail (as mentioned) all point to M2.

Front forks (easily swappable) point to S1. Not really a good enough view of the battery tray to know for sure, but I'm going to have to say M2, with later header.

S1 frame and front end with M2 motor, or M2 with S1 front end.

Looks like the squeezed and X1 exhaust in there, prolly hits the frame. Nice bike

"its an m2 early frame without a doubt"

I tend to agree, i just wish i could see that battery tray.

"S1 frame and front end with M2 motor, or M2 with S1 front end."

How do we know M2 motor over S1 motor?

M2 (early) motor is the same as S1 (non-W) motor - silver cases, jugs, heads and covers. Later M2s got black engine finish. S1W got polished cam/primary covers and black thunderstorm heads.

Now that I'm typing it...maybe that was the difference between early M2 and early S1 - the M2 only had the sand-cast covers while S1 got the polished?

Looks like a Night Rod headlight and visor - very nice.

I don't think M2's ever got the black engine finish.

I like this tuber talk.

Dan is correct.

My 2002 M2 motor is sand cast grey.

My 2001 S3 motor is black.

I think the later (S3/X-1) Thunderstorm motors were black (hotter cams and FI).

Missing frame brace on the left side and straight frame rail on the right side mean that it's a pre-'99 frame. Footpeg mounting is too low to be an S1. It could have been a '97-'98 S3, but that would mean he not only chopped the tail, he swapped to the smaller fuel tank and painted the frame black (early S3 frames were gray/silver).

My money says it's a '97-'98 M2.

S1 motor polished? Nope........S1W maybe.

The footpeg mounts are good point. After mucho perusing, it's M2.

its really good to see actual Buell customs than to see a bunch of hack job rednecks. Its seems to me as if more Buells are being customized while keeping the sexy tube frame. Whoever did that m2... props!
