Can someone post up pics on how the chin spoiler on the X1 mounts in the front. I see a way how I can mount it but I was wondering how the factory did it. The way I see to mount it will hang lower than the spoiler. THanks for any help.

The spoiler does not mount on the front, it only mounts on the sides. The exhaust is directly behind the spoiler.

There is a hole in the front for what someone told me was for a bracket. Actually the person that gave it to me off of his bike said there was???

I took mine off since all it did was get dirty and chafe against the clutch cable.
I could never get mine to seal the primary with the stock mounting setup.
I was thinking of using threaded studs on the primary side and clamping the primary cover with nuts so that the spoiler could be held in place with the supplied spacers and another set of nuts.

Then I realized that I didn't care and just wanted to go for a ride!

Like Nate, mine has been removed. I took mine off mostly because I want a more "naked" look. If I remember, there are two mounting holes on either side toward the front. I believe it mounts to the shock bolt and the shift bolt?

Just one hole, on the right front of the chin fairing. It bolts to a bracket that goes around the bolt that holds the front shock eye. I just put a chinny on my M2 last year, and putting that bracket on the bolt was by far the hardest part. Still pretty easy. "They" say without a bracket of some kind in front the chinner doesn't last as long, vibrates itself to death. I (Who could have imagined that?) Doesn't have to be the fancy factory bracket which as I recall was very expensive from the dealer, any bent piece of metal could be made to work. I think it was just a well-nut behind the chinn that a bolt went into.
I got the guy at Dudley-Perkins to photo-copy that page from the parts manual for me, so I could see how it went on.

What I found was that the front shock eye bolt was on the short side after putting the bracket in there. (Bracket is very solid.) Just not enough threads grabbing for such a critical piece. Sure enough, checking the parts manual, the X1 bolt is 1/4" longer than the M2 bolt, so I replaced mine with the X1 bolt. In this position 1/8" too long is better than 1/8" too short.

If your friend gave you the spoiler he should have also passed on everything he had to mount it...or did he simply replace the faring and gave you the old one???

Either way...yes there is a front bracket.

As Jayvee said the bracket bolts to the front shock eye. Depending on which year you have will decide which bracket you'll need. You'll also need to be very careful and lift the bike correctly or you run the risk blowing a seal in you shock system.
