I am wondering what all are the factory options that you were able to get for a 99 X1? Reason I am asking is I am looking at and am more than likely going to purchase a 99 X1 that is blue with a black frame and has white wheels. What throws me off about this whole bike is the fact that the wheels are white. I have seen M2's come in this blue on black, but they have had dark grey wheels. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Pics would be nice

Thanks,

I've sold all my old books and brochures so I don't know for sure but I believe '99 was the banner year for limited editions. I am positive the Carbon Fiber Extreme was a '99 and I believe the Racing Stripe (In blue and in red) was in '99. They also came in red, yellow, black, white?, there was a white lightning and a blue and possibly orange. Not too sure about that last one. There were black and nuke blue frames.

The easiest thing to do is get in touch with someone on here who can run the VIN and tell you for sure what it was born with and go from there. Does the person you're buying it from have any info about it?
4cammer bought all my books, he lurks around here sometimes.

I think the wheels are supposed to match the tube frame I think.
At least all of the stockers that I have seen.
(not counting the PM wheel option)

I think the older ones could be ordered in any random combination.

Got this from this link, long read but interesting.

There are nine basic body colors and four frame/wheel color options, along with a Performance Machine wheel option. Buell claims that there are 432 possible color and accessory combinations with this scheme.

I found pics in the pic section of blue on black bikes and they have black wheels. I am thinking that the person had them powdercoated. I was thinking that the wheels should match the frame. I had a friend that works at harley run the vin and he said that it should be a graphite color bike. I also think that I misunderstood the guy over the phone while he was reading the vin to me. Does anyone have a VIN breakdown chart or something?

X1 White Lightning had a white frame, and was available in the final year only, 2002. Strictly cosmetic, as opposed to the S1 White Lightning, the X1W also had that cool blue header. Racquetball Blue, I always called it.

I looked in the 99 sales brochure. The 432 combinations are only advertised with the S3. For the X1 I did not find the white wheel/black frame to be a factory option. Looking back at different color choices it seems rather unlikely to me that Buell would offer this.....maybe it's just me...

Guys....The Blue stripe was available in 99 and is my favorite striper. The red stripe special was a 2000 model only. I would bet my PM wheels on it. I believe the carbon fibre special was a 99 and of course the millenium special was a 2000.

I think that they just powdercoated the wheels to be honest. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Thanks for all the replies. A VIN breakdown would be nice if someone knows where one is at.

Thanks,

Boiler,

Looks like you get to keep your PM wheels, as these are 100% accurate statements.

At nine years of age now it's about anyone's guess who has done what to it without a good lineage.

I'm reckoning they're either S1W or X1W wheels.

I look at the pictures of those red rocks in St. George, UT and I begin to sweat. It reached 115oF during several to the 10 days we spent there doing the pre-release event.

I had the good fortune to host the blokes from BIKE magazine in the UK and then Tim Carrithers and I spent a day riding. The place was gorgeous but brutally hot.

My funniest memory was when they ended up with 19 Buell that needed to go from the west to the east coast and the truck would only hold 18. I handed Bill Bailey my plane ticket, through my bag in the demo trailer, jumped on a bike, parked it in Philly at 4:30am two days later and took the train to NYC and fell asleep.

Sounds like ya got a fun bike!

Wow, so with all these posts are X-1s "collectible" now?? Hope it keeps guys from parting them out for choppers, when they get expensive it wont be worth it. Saw some horrid red neck mutants and other POS that they were trying to sell for $10,000 or more, after a low mile X-1 was parted out.
How many X-1s have to die.........:

78758:

think about this, the Choppas that get built from X1s' thin the herd. and make spare parts available as more are wrecked,
chopped customized the more exclusive they become.. and the more valuable they become

Ride and enjoy,

Im the guy with the bandanna on his head, the young buck beside me owns the blue X1 it was to be chopped ---- THEN he rode it
and decided that it was special enough to leave it alone ..

Funny how that kind of thing works,
Riders err We know who we are...

Nice bike! Congrats! These pics look much better than the ones on craigslist. You did well! :-) Yes, your buddies at Harley are right: This is the Race Exhaust system (header and muffler) which was available from Buell for $1000+ at the time. It also included the ECM (should say "For race use only" under your seat) and a K+N air cleaner I think. You should have no trouble with this setup. You might want to ask your Harley buddies whether they can get the latest Showa shock for your bike. Have them check your VIN for possible open recalls.
Again: Great catch! Have fun!

I actually had them run the VIn before I bought it to be sure that all the recalls have been done. That was one of the selling points to me. I seen this on craigslist on Wed. and picked it up on Sunday!! Just had to have it! It has everything that you are talking about, well not sure on the K&N yet. How is the header different than stock? Bigger, different bends?

Sweet X-1! Glad your really liken it. I think the big side pods are kind of cool, some people strip them off, but I like the bulbous look.
I have about 23,000 miles on my 2001 X-1, mostly trouble free after fixing a few glitches early on. I put on a Works Performance shock, made a big difference. Eventually the rear shock gives out and loses its oil. I am installing a set of hyperpro progressive fork spring also, but not yet tried the new set up.

I have a 2000 Buell X1 Lightning with a green color scheme, is this factory or was it painted? I also noticed that the "Buell" "logo doesn't have the lettering underneath like I see on other X1s.

Oynx was the 2000 factory color closest to green.

All the part numbers will have the 9YYV suffix

9YYV= Onyx Alloy
