My credibility? Nice try, but it isn't my credibility that is responsible for most of the posts!
Your point about service bulletins is valid. So I started to type other examples you might like better as they are not addressed by bulletins. I stopped because as you won't concede that your posts contain some factual errors already point out that I have no reason to believe continuing this discussion (with you) has any purpose. As hard as you are trying I don't have any hard feelings though and there are plenty of other posts from me describing why I ride a Buell. So do a search if you are really interested (you aren't).
Everyone else, just re-read Sloppy's and Tattood's last posts. They state the truth....

Over the years every big motorcycle magazine has run tests on oils. They test viscosity breakdown, shearing, and a bunch of other things that only an engineer would fully understand. Synthetic oils rule supreme in every test. Leading the bunch are Amsoil and ,guess what, Mobil One. I've run Mobil One ever since 5000 miles. At 40,000 miles I pulled the rockers and pushrods out to swap my oil pump gear and there was not a bit of wear on the rocker tips and the motor was sparkling clean on the inside. Good proof that 15w-50 Mobil one works. In the primary I was using Mobil one gear lube and after reading a few posts about the stators being attacked by it I switched to using 15w50 in the tranny. 62000 miles the primary is clean and doesn't hold condensation in the oil. On hot days after riding my bike use to smell like rear-end lube but after switching it smells good. The original fluid from Buell smelled sweet. Sorry about being long winded about this. Oh, I change my engine oil every 5000 miles and use a Mobil One filter M302 it think is the number. It holds a lot of oil. I change the primary oil every 10000 miles and adjust the primary chain every 2000 or so miles. Doesn't Buell also mention in the manual that diesel oil is ok also? Seems like quite a spread of oil to use. It's best to read everything and if possible draw logical conclusions and educated decisions from many sources, one of which is this board. Loads of experience here from people that race and wrench on these machines. I don't know anything compared to some of these guys and learn new things everyday.

I'm not an engineer or oil specialist, I can only tell you what I have read, heard, and experienced. Basically, I currently use Syn 3 because it is simple. I used to use Mobil 1 in the engine and Sport Trans in the primary. I never had any problems with either. I probably would have used Mobil 1 in the primary as well, but I think I read in a magazine article that it was not recommended for it. From what others are saying here I could have used it without problems.

I switched to Syn 3 for simplicity sake. Not a big deal really. I honestly can't tell any difference in the way the bike runs or shifts since switching to Syn 3 right after it came out.

As to manufacturers, IIRC HD used to say they did not recommend using synthetic oil in their bikes. Until they came out with Syn 3 anyway.

I have also read that it is not good to use synthetic oil early in an engine's life as it did not allow the engine to break in properly. I think HD ships new bikes with Syn 3 in them now.

So, basically I have a hard time believing every thing I read about this oil stuff. I can, however say that Mobil 1 and Syn 3 have both worked fine for me. YMMV.

All you guys have valid points. Bottom line is we are all smart enough to use something that works. The Sport-Trans works great for me and I won't change just to change. If I am convinced something else is better, I will switch. I am a big fan of syn's, use mobil 1 in all the cars. Have for years. I personally think it's among the best oils available, for engines. I only use Syn3 cause it's at the dealer. I try to stick w/ Buell when possible. I have Pro-Series plugs and wires though I am sure there are better alternatives. I will use H-D rocker gaskets( not paper ) though I have heard Cometic is better. Manufacturers make many recommendations/suggestions. They rarely INSIST you use something. They insist on Sport-Trans and I gotta believe it's for a reason. Why would they continue to sell it after all these years? Why no bulletin to change to something else? Why not JUST carry Syn3? Thanx to all for the valuable input, the diversity of opinion is what makes forums work. Safe riding.
