After mos. of looking for a Buell that fit my wallet without having to make payments, I finally found a local Buell for sale that didn't look like it had been dropped off a building.
It's a '99 X1, Onyx, black wheels, 10K miles, K&N, race ECM & Vance & Hines, otherwise-stock. $3600.

Getting the tag tomorrow, took a vacation day, plan to get to DMV when it opens & ride until it rains in late afternoon (I'm in Fla, it will rain).

Wish there was an easy way to lower the foot-pegs (I'm 6'4").

I've been reading as much as I could here for several months, this is a great site, learned much here. Thanks to all.

Be careful in lowering pegs, they are pretty easy to scrape at factory placement. What may help is a handlebar riser. American Sport Bike has them, they raise bars by about an inch. You may also want to look into gel inserts for your seat, the more you put in the more rise. Be sure to run VIN to check for recalls. While you have a great bike, it does have several issues to address. Front exhaust hangar, chain tensioner , shock recall. Check the KV for a complete list of things to look for. X1 Files is a great site.

There is an easy way if you can find an old S2 peg lowering kit...

I've seen these used to also raise the pegs also on M2's. They should fit an X1 as well, but I'm not sure where you could get the kit.

There is a guy Sanchez who had the kit (to raise his pegs), but he parted out his totalled M2. He may still have them laying around if you're interested.

I say: don't lower the pegs--raise the seat. I bet some extra padding couldn't hurt.

Not making payments is one of the main reasons I bought my X1. Nothing like a paid-for something.

Good for you! Glad to hear there is another tuber out there instead of on the chopper block.

Congrats -- make sure you handle the recalls mentioned above -- but also look at the primary shoe and the oil pump gear. Start saving for the race ECM and the intake and exhaust -- it'll be like a whole different bike -- my payments aren't made to the bank --they're made paying for parts and service I can't do myself. But when it's running theres nothing like a tuber. post some pics --

I basically have the same bike, if I can ever be of help drop me a line. I've had it since new and have done most of all the work myself with the help of the manual.

Ok, rode it 150 miles, couldn't wipe the grin off my face!! But something has to be done with the ergonomics (I'm 6'4") so stopped by the local HD/Buell dealer (I work there, selling bikes), picked up a handlebar for a Blast & new grips.
Went home changed out the bars & rode another 100 miles, much, much better. I'm not even going to worry about lowering the pegs for now. BUT THE SEAT SUCKS!!! It's the Buell touring seat but still sucks.
Anybody have any aftermarket or custom seat suggestions/ideas??

Only choice is Corbin or a custom shop to retool your seat. Again you can try gel inserts, the cheapest way to go.
