Yesterday as I was coming up at about 40mph on some cars stopped at a red light my rear break lever mashed all the way down with no resistance. Pushed a couple more times and nothing. I cranked down on the front break hard and down shifted quick to come to a stop. When I looked back at my rear break I noticed the left side of my tire was shinny and wet. I immediately pulled over into a parking lot. I pressed the rear break again and break fluid comes squirting out all over the tire. That's when I noticed the break line had been rubbing the rear tire and now there was a pin hole. I wiped off the fluid as best I could and rode the remaining 15 miles home with no rear breaks and taking it real easy on left hand corners...

A couple months ago I removed the plastic fender from the rear swing arm. I had seen several other M2's done the same way, and I like the more aggressive look. I'm getting ready to order a new line. Should I go with the OEM, and what suggestions do any of you have on protecting/routing the break line to keep it from happening again or should I just put the fender back on?

There are 2 clamps on that left side that sounds like their missing ..

One uses the same bolt hole the fender does (about 3 inches in front of the rear caliper) .. then there is another clamp bolted under the oil tank ... Both clamps keep the brake line following the swing arm and should eliminate any worry of rubbing ...

+1 on the clamps. Re-use the fender attaching bolts, they hold the retaining clips for the brake line. As you discovered...they're pretty much required for safe riding.

Use the clamps as said above. Even though the rear brake is there just for DOT it would be a good time to upgrade to braided line, it sounds like you are into looks.

The braided lines I found are around $100 so I ordered the OEM ones from the local HD shop for $35 and the clips fro $1.96. I'm hoping it comes in tomorrow so I can have her back on the road by the weekend. I rarely use the rear break until slower speeds, but it sure is discomforting when it's not there...
