Actually my dirt bike is an XR650L Thumper. So I kinda disagree. Earlier this spring I took a 1400 mile 3 day roadtrip on my 2000 S3. I live in Denver and we headed south into some great twisties in New Mexico. I'm not a great twisties rider so I always brought up the rear. But I managed to talk the other 2 riders -- Honda Blackbird and Yamaha FJR into a little over 200 miles of dirt roads over mountain passes. These tubers ARE a giant dirt bike. Just like my XR -when you start sliding you just roll on the throttle to straighten it back up. I lifted the wheel when nescessary -- a few cattle guards. On one 25 mile stretch I actually had couple of beers in town before they caught up. I might not do twisties but I CAN do dirt.

I've always thought the same thing... maybe not so much a giant dirt bike, but a giant thumper. I used to race an XR500 in hare scrambles (Geez that was a long time a ago...) and the impression I got when I rode a Buell for the first time was it felt like a giant 4-stroke single. I had never ridden a Sportster (still never have) and was surprised at the syncopated, single powerstrokes.

I love the feel of powersliding and wheelying that thing, too.
