They're the factory heads and pistons for the 101hp motors (along with the 15 grind cams) that came in the S1W, S3, and X1. Its also the setup that I'm putting in my S2 at the moment. If you want a bit more grunt but don't want to lose bottom end torque, this is a great setup. Spring for the cams when you do it, they're still listed as the "Lightning" component cams.

Looks to me that they are stock on the 99 and up Buells. I have an 02 and asked about them. I was told I have the Thunderstorm setup so would do me no good to use them. (other than if mine were trashed)

Same as my heads & pistons..
I am just runnin the stock D cams and it runs great..plenty strong..
I had ta use a S/e module tho to keep it from pinging with regular fuel tho..
#1 fuel here in canada costs more than both nuts and 2 arms.....Hb

Had my '95 re-built from the stock 9:1 heads to the 10:1 Thunderstorm kit (bigger valves too).
Yeah, it's worth the money!

can you keep the stock muffler- S-2- with that set up? I do not know if the s-3 or s-1 had the same can as the s-2.

DT
Which Buell do you have your Profile lists a Gixer.

If this is about replacing the " Bad head" consider checking with the sponsors about getting One head set up ready to go, you dont need the pistons just a new head and gaskets, there is a trick with the jug removal that allows the piston to stay in the jug so you want wrist pin clips as well.

post prior to tear down.

good luck.

Good heads though the XB/04+ Sportster 1200 heads are a bit better in every respect. Most Thunderstorm head bikes make RWHP in the 80's while most with the newer heads are routinely in the 90's. They both generally make about the same peak torque in the same RPM range but with the XB heads the torque doesn't taper off as quickly up top.

XB heads'll require a new front motor-mount though.
