Akironic - beautiful bike! Where are you? Your profile says NJ, but I'd swear that looks like one of our Maryland tags on the bike....

See that thread from the archives for a ton of pics ...

This would be mine ...

Although it looks different again, as those pictures were just posted in the past couple weeks ... and as everyone knows I just can't leave well enough alone -
I threw a powder coated black primary cover on it when I fixed the main crank seal ...

Great looking S1's Akironic and Tatood!

Ratbuell - I'm really love what you've done with your S1. Have you already posted the details of your transformation somewhere? If so, could you please link to it - I would really like to know more. I read in another one of your posts that you used a hacksaw for removing various items (passenger peg mounts, etc..). Do you think this is better/easier than a Dremel? I'm ready to chop my peg mounts off and I'm toying with the idea of shortening the rear frame/bodywork as well. I really love the look of the S1, but I think it might look even better with a shorter tail section. I'm also thinking about putting on different headlights - either side-by-side or vertically aligned. Any tips or advice that you have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Ratbuell, Thanks : )

I'm in northern nj, about 10 minutes from the GWB. Thats a NJ tag on there. The flash of the camera changed the color of it.

Thanks Joe. Hey, How do you like that corbin seat? The stock one is crushin the jewels. I was wonderin if the corbin holds you back a little bit.

Thanks again.

I second the Corbin question. I have a stock Euro solo on my S1W, and a Corbin on my S2. The S1 is....well, it's an S1. The S2 is nearly as comfortable as my FLHP. Hard to tell if its just the seat, or if the bike itself is a big part of the difference..

The seat on the HV yellow '96 isn't a Corbin...it's actually a Buell select seat. I find it very comfortable. The foam is firm and cut in a flatter profile for more support. It still tends to push you towards the tank though.

I haven't taken any good pictures of mine in over a year. Here's one before the latest paint & powder coating...

Here's a few from the rebuild:

New rear pulley (lightened and powdercoated):

I like the new Buells fine, but to me, tubers are where it's at. Looking at this white lightning gets me all nostalgic for my 98 S1W that I sold (foolish!). I think that the S1's are the best looking Buells ever built. They are absolutely stunning. Nice jobs guys!

Wouldn't it be good if Buell did a new tuber styled on the S1!

S1's are still by far the best looking Buell's in my opinion.

Thanks! .. Cam cover, rocker covers, swingarm and mounting block are soon to follow (gloss black) - I am hoping to have it all done by Homecoming - with the exception of the swingarm ..

Future plans may include the fork tubes - the triples will either end up getting polished or coated to match the frame (can't do black - already did that on the M2 and I have to keep the two looking different)..

Hey Nocompromise, you still there?

Thanks for the comments! As for details of the transformation all I can say is "what a long strange trip its been"! Started some years back with my buds 900 monster and my S1 side by side in our bike (bicycle) shop with much of the same mods done to both. You know, a chunk here a chunk there. I got to admit there were times when a hacksaw was used, but be careful, I'm a professional. After cutting unwanted pieces off I would patiently use an air grinder to smooth out the surface. Take your time, DO NOT get in a hurry.

Lots of different dual headlights mounted on S1's, go for it, you'll do fine.

As for body work. I trimmed small amounts off the rear over a period of time till I was happy with the look. Same with the ktm motocross front fender, and acerbis headlight trimmed to almost nothing. I'll have to rustle up a pic of my buds duc!

Keith -
Thanks for the reply! I think the S1 is a real classic, so I'm flip-flopping on whether to mess with it or not. I think you have done a great job creating a very unique and BAD ASS style. Your S1 looks like it would rip your head off for even thinking about riding it. If you ever get the inclination, I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in the gory details of your various modifications. Thanks again and enjoy that BEAST!

Tatood-
VERY nice blacked out S1! I think it will look great with black forks as well.

Incidentally, I went out riding today for the first time in about 4 years!! I'll post a picture tomorrow when I have a little time. I'm ashamed to admit my S1 has sat dormant for 4-5 years. I'm definitely taking it slow until I can my old mojo going. I used to tear it up, but I'm definitely very rusty. Plus, I now have 2 young sons to think about - I'll be taking it very easy on the street.

There are a couple issues even after all the maintenance I've done, but hopefully I can sort them out quickly. The engine coughs/backfires every once in a while - usually on trailing throttle. I can also feel air pulses on my right leg, which leads me to believe there may be some sort of intake leak? I'm not 100% sure the carb was seated properly in the intake manifold when I had it apart, so I'm going to try reseating it. Also, I didn't gap the NGK plugs when I installed them (I didn't know I had to), so that might be a causal factor? I'll do that as well. Any other suggestions or thoughts are very welcome.
