I'm taken of the muffler to drain my primary and low and behold something is rattling around in my can...the coupler and screen are flopping around loose inside. Guess now I know where the rattle was coming from. Anybody got specific details on how to fix/repack my slipon?

Any help is welcomed.

Tx Brad.

Is the center tube toast? Looks pretty narley?

Yah, it's toast. Mine's (SS2R carbon fiber) gutted (end cap only), sounds awesome. Probably lost a horse or 2, but a/f seems fine plugs read fine, no popping on decel...and it's a thunderstorm S1W so there's plenty of power to weight, LOL. Up to you - just make sure you aren't too lean if you leave it open.

Go buy yourself a hot dog(resonator) with the same diameter baffle as your one pictured above. Cut the ends off and weld it into your Vance, you may need to drill out the old rivets on your Vance. You can use the packing out of the Hot Dog or buy some extra from a bike shop. These hot dogs are designed to have the exhaust gas flow a certain way so make sure you check this before welding it in! I have personally done this repair/Mod on previous bikes. Still get a great sound with good back pressure.

Here's a picture of the Hot Dog with no sauce or mustard!
Cheers
Jodie

When you buy the V&H repacking material it comes prepacked on the perforated tube .. only around 30 bucks, V&H doesn't sell it on the retail level ..

Parts Unlimited does sell it ... http://street.parts-unlimited.com/19/50/4033586 you just have to figure out the right part number for yours, and then find a local retailer for Parts unlimited

So the perforated tube comes with the packing....where does the coupler fit into the equation? At the front or the rear of the packing and perforated tube that seem to have sort of melted??? This is the first time rebuilding it so I'm not sure. I'm hoping this is common of how it works. I don't want to end up buying a new can!!

The end of the perf tube will have the flange as part of the tube ... then 3 allen screws if my memory serves me right, bolt the tube to the tail ... (I did this a year ago, right before putting the race exhaust on ...)

So don't worry, you won't have to replace your can .. when you order the new tube w/packing you will have all you need to put it back together .. Just make sure the one you get is for the Buell, measure your perf tube and tell them that is the diameter you need ... they may have to check on it but that way you can be assured you will get the right one - the part numbers themselves won't tell you .

If I can remember -I will have the place I bought mine through look up my history and get the part number for you if you want to wait until Monday - Only thing is - mine was the higher decibel tube/packing ...

Al at American Sport Bike stock's the parts too, great service and you won't have to guess if you're getting the right part #.

Gonna hijack a bit here (again) - Jodie, does that fix increase back pressure? I lost a noticeable amount of power going from the e-series pipe to the vance and have been trying to figure out a way to get it back ever since. Don't want to buy another pipe either.

Al does have the repacking material - but when I ordered it from him it did not include the perforated tube ... which Brad needs ..

Unless Al now has the perf tube as well ... then yea, go to American Sport Bike for it.

I have a few of the raw SS2R perf tubes at the shop, but they aren't on the web site. I'm at home, can't tell you how much they cost.
