I put an S3 dash/fairing on a 2k M2;there`s a seperation between the top of the dash and the fairing of about 3/4 to 1/2"--I got all the parts on Ebay independantly,an S3 is an S3,I thought.I`ve stuffed the gap with Kayak foam and that took care of it-but it looks kind of Mickey Mouse-what are those two holes for on top of the dash? My guess is they mount to the fairing spider except that it`s about two inches further down.Anybody got any pics-should have bought S3 parts manual. The funny thing is I used to be pretty good at fab`ing stuff...

buellfart,

There are a couple of different spiders that say they are for the S3.

And yes, one is about two inches shorter on the upper portion that looks like a u bracket.

I suggest that you get a long, threaded bolt, put two lock nuts on either side of the hole in the support bracket, and get an adapter that has two female ends.

Screw one onto the bolt, using blue locktite. The other should fit directly beneath the hole in the dash.

That hole has a round top allen screw that screws through the dash, and into the female adapter on the end of the threaded bolt.

I did this, and it works fine.

I will try to get some pics of the actual parts up.

from what i can gather it looks like you purchased a 97 to 98 S3 faring spider.

Due to speedo change in 99 (they went from cable to sensor) the diameter of the gauges changed so the dash size and location also changed.

Which means while a 99 and up dash may fit on a 97 to 98 spider it won't fit right.

Didn't the '97 use an S-2 style gauge cluster?
There are two very distinct spiders. One for the early and one for the late. Get the correct one for the dash panel you have. Or change dash panels. The gauges can be made to fit with the correct sleeve or foam.
