I'm pretty bummed. I'm having the swingarm modified and heads ported. After a month the heads are ready, but the swingarm hasn't even been started yet! Frustrating. It sucks to have no control over those mods. To this point I've done everything myself.

Hi Rick,
I have a few questions about you bike. I noticed that you have frame sliders and a steering damper on there. Where did you find those? I got a steering damper for a Sportser recently and tried to fit it to my M2. i got a clamp for the fork, but have not been able to find a clamp for the frame. The one that came with the kit is for 1 3/8" tube. But the Buell is slimmer (more like 1 1/8"). Did you have to make the parts yourself? I have been looking for a pair of frame sliders for my bike all winter and haven't had a whole lot of luck finding a source. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

after poking around a bit, it looks like you are running LSL sliders. Looks like American Sportbike has just about everything I'm looking for. Now I just need to find the frame clamp for the damper.

Thanks.
Tom

Tom
Check with the companies that make steering dampner for our bikes.

It's a Storz steering damper. They have a setup for M2's, too. IMO it's the best for the money. It's been on there for 19,000 miles and works like new.

The frame sliders have been thoroughly tested and really only completely prevent damage in a tip-over (as my wife has demonstrated for me). In an actual crash they minimize the damage to the point that you may still have a rideable, though heavily roadrashed motorcycle. The controls tend to hold together fairly well (they may get twisted up but usually won't break), and the exhaust and aircleaner get saved from much trauma.

I'm at the mercy of Revolution Performance (swingarm being extended 1" and torsion braced) and Cycle Rama (heads being ported). I have until May to have it back together and tuned up (she's getting a 45mm Mikuni, too) before headin' out for a track day.

Bomber, you doin' any headwork? It drove me nuts that I couldn't break 100 hp with the stock XB heads. I was always just a few off. I'm sure with some more miles it may have been there, but I want to get the max potential outa the combination.

Rick -- nossir, no head work this go round -- XB heads, 1250 kit, N8 cams, Mike -- while I'd LIKE 100 RWH, I don't think I'm gonna get it --

my performance goal, when I started, was an un-dramatic 130MPH Club at Bonneville -- I am given to understand that this combo will have me breaking out (i.e., 140 mph) if I'm not careful, and if I'm careful assembling the mill

next year, when the MaDeuece is no longer the prime bike, I may go further

Are those N8's a 536 lift?

If so you may see near to a smidge over 100.

Phat J did up a S2 with the same set up and got close to 97 I believe...

That was with heavy fly wheels.

I am running 95 with the same setup and 1200cc's

Webslinger -- yessir, they are --

I'm lookin forward to the dyno results -- more interested in performance than hp (doubt if my buttometer could tell the diff between 95 and 100 anywho -- the clocks at Bonnie will, tho ;-} )

given the shape of the mill when I tore into it, I'm sure I'll be changing my drawers once I get it runnin!

Valve lift is spec'd at .490 and .500 for N8's. .530 is the spring travel clearance required. A guy in the shop has an XL with XB heads, N8's, Mikuni, and a Bartel's 2 into 1. He only got up to 83HP on our dyno. I like the looks of the N6's. Usually all that's needed is grinding a 45 degree back-cut in the valves for valve to valve clearance, and with 10.5:1 pistons or some head milling you don't lose anything on the bottom.

A stock M2 will do 125, won't it?

RIck -- thanks for the correction on the cam specs --

you bet a stock MaDuece will do 125 -- it'll actually do a bit more than that (low 130s before you hit the rev limter)

but that's close to sea level -- close to stock M2s struggle to get to 130 at Bonneville (much higher altitude -- gotta talk to Mother Nature about placing those big dry lakes closer to sea level, yes?)

I see.

I'd like to give the Maxton speed trials a go eventually (it's a lot closer and a bit less salty).

My S1 making around 80hp with stock Lightning heads wouldn't go over 129 (calibrated bicycle speedometer and about 50 feet above sea level).

Going from low 80's to high 90's hp was a big change...going to 110+ oughta be equally satisfying.

I have the timing slips, a stock M2 CAN make the 130 Club.
Mine had about 18,000 mile on it at the time too!

Hey Brian! What clip-ons are you using? Do you have any clearance problems with the tank? Your bike looks great!

Beatx1 -- I can't say for sure what brand - they look like Woodcraft bars .. they came on a bike that had full Airtech plastics ... but no clearance issues. The only thing I did was put on an XB brake line and clutch cable, and most likely will be doing XB throttle cables ... just because the bars moved down at least 8 inches or so from stock.

Sounds plausible.

I got my heads back...now if I could just get that swingarm returned to me...
