I rode my new 2002 M2 last weekend and it confirmed what I already thought: I really can't ride that bike for any extended period unless I get higher handlebars. HippyJoe was nice enough to send me a set of Blast bars (thanks, Joe!) but these won't work because they are too narrow to clear the instrument cluster. Can anybody specify a bar that has an inch or two more rise, or better yet, does anybody know of a set of risers that will work? I like the concept of the Rox Speed Fx risers but I don't think they will work. There is also the approach of making risers by stacking some handlebar clamps. Does anybody have any thoughts? I've ridden an M2 with an S3T handlbar. It's about 2" higher and makes a huge difference. I was told by the owner that the cables didn't need to be replaced with longer ones, but I assume you need to be really careful to make sure you don't foul the throttle cables at full lock (for obvious reasons). | ||

Thanks. Somewhere I got the impression that Blast bars were the same as S3T bars. Did the S3T come with the same instrument cluster (speedo and tach) as the later M2? I don't think I've ever actually seen an S3T. | ||

D -- oops, you're right -- never having seen an M2 with the (stock) speedo/tach unit, I'd forgotten the potential for intereference my suggestion would be to go to your local dirt bike store, ask nicely if they mind if you take some bars out to your scoot, and hold em up -- it'll be clear pretty quickly which will suit ya | ||

I have the official Blast bars on my M2, with the tach kit, it clears with minor clutch cable re-routing. I'm not convinced they are the same as S3T bars, though. Flanders also makes one, and they're available from various sources, sometimes eBay: http://www.sideroadcycles.com/AmericanMotorcycles/ Handlebars/Buell/BuellBar.html I forget if it's Drag Specialties, Custom Chrome, Bikers Choice or who, but one of these guys carries them. Plus some other sources, like direct from Flanders. | ||

Dwardo: I've used stock M2 bars, Crossroads billets, Flanders' bars and now I'm with Renthals I got at my local dirtbike shop. IMO the Renthals are the best, but any 7/8" bar will work. I went to a local asian bike graveyard first to kind of get an idea of what I was looking for. Then I went and bought the bars. | ||

I am looking for a slightly taller handlebar for my 2001 M2L. The stock bars seem perfect when traveling at highway speeds but it puts a lot of weight on my hands when taking the back roads at a lower speed. I am curious about the Renthal bars, they offer them in different heights. Elmono, which height bar did you find to be the best? | ||

that would prob work using the right clamp and machining the "top" flat, and using longer bolts of course. | ||

That is some really helpful info Sleez! I didn't realize that the Flanders bar was 4 inches taller than the stock bar. I think that would be too much - for me anyway. I was looking for around a one to two inch taller bar. Twenty years ago I wouldn't have given the low stock bar any thought... I guess time has a way of changing ones priorities. | ||

The Renthals I'm using are actually lower than stock. But they're wider, which is what I was looking for. Renthal does make a higher bar, look for the enduro high model. |
