Hey guys ... I am doing a front end swap this weekend, X1 front to M2 body, I have my trusty M2 service manual, but was hoping someone with a 2001 X1 manual (don't know if year matters) can scan any and all pages related to the forks/frontend (disassembly, assembly, specs, etc ....) and e-mail them to me (can use the website in my profile to contact me or PM) If anyone can help me out, it would be appreciated .. I need the info preferably Tuesday or Wednesday .. I have to take 'em apart to powder coat the trees before the swap and I like to have a manual at my side but can't justify an X1 manual just for forks. Thanks Brian | ||

Make sure that you do not powder coat the part that the fork tubes slide into. I would be cautious around the pinch slots too. Then of course you will need to chase the threads with a tap to clean out any powder coating built up in there. As far as having a X1 manual, sorry, I can't help there. Try PM'ing Ducxl. He has a 99 or 00 X1, and may have a manual. Real good guy too, he'll help if he can. | ||

Yea, I pretty much am only coating the spots you see, doing them myself so I can make sure they are done right, and fast, but thanks for the reminder either way. I knew about threads and where the fork tubes slide in, but didn't think about the pinch slots ... I'll have to take a look at that. I will give Ducxl a shot .. thanks ! | ||

Tatt'd. I will try to bring my manual home tonight, and email you a couple pages... mine is already on disc, but, I have it at the shop.... But, the the swap shoudl be pretty str8 forward. Suspend bike, loosen allen bolts that pinch that forks, remove forks... undo the bolt, and remove the top triple... then do the lower triple... replace with the other front end, and you are good to go... But, again, I will try to get you those pages, so you can read them... Chase | ||

Much appreciated ! It's nice to have a guide at your side, years of working on old BMW cars will do that to you. Main things I was looking for were torque specs, fluid replacement, replacing seals .. heh .. who am I kidding? - generally, everything. I don't know what info on conventional forks can be applied to inverted. | ||

Just tighten until the threads start to strip then back off 1/8th of a turn. That will work on just about anything  | ||

Ducxl - Yea, I got them all, thank you ! I was at my friend's PC shop till 1:30AM... went with one bad tower, come home with 2 rebuilt towers, monitor, bunch o' peripherals, and a laptop .. All for about 40 bucks and my laptop case .. (he says it's his way of payback for all the work I did on his old BMW 5 series) Eboos - that's normally what I do - without backing it off though .. thought it best not to do that in this situation ...
