I think you would need a new triple clamp (or at least have your stocker machined?). You can find the forks and clamp on E-bay from time to time, for around $400 or so. It seems pretty straight forward. I'm not sure about the axel spacers, though.

I believe it has been done. You will need new triple trees, which will force you to change the brackets holding the headlight and fly screen as well. I'm not sure, but you may need to get the matching front axle as well.

You'd need to make sure the steering head bearings are the same - my guess is that they would be.

A quick check in the parts manuals would give you much of that info.

Many of the chopper kit guys use the forks from the Buells they "utilize", so it may take a bit of searching to find a set including all the necessary parts.

Hey.
No need for new triple trees. You can skim yours. With the exception of the inner diameter, they are identical to the X1 triple trees. One can see, that the X1 triple trees have less "flesh".They are "drilled out" M2 trees.
Steering head, breaklines, brackets, etc.is all the same as well.
Friend of mine made the conversion without any problems.

I had to have the upper m2 clamp machined, lower clamp came with my x1 front end, check my profile or email me if you need details.

Any machinist should be able to open them up for you, my brother did mine, he said it was kinda a pain since the clamp tended to chatter due to the slots cut in it, but it turned out fine.

New wheel spacers, they're pretty inexpensive from the dealer.

The stock springs from the x1 front end are too soft for my 185ish lbs with gear on. Aren't the s3's sprung a bit stiffer due to the fairing and touring load capacity?

stay away from xb front ends if you want to keep it simple.

A question for you guys who have done this. I understand that the reason for inverted forks is less unsprung weigh moving up and down responding to the road surface, bumps, etc. but it seems as though the steel fork legs down low moving would be even heavier than the aluminum sliders. Where am I going wrong?

I know M2 fork legs are much simpler, which suites that frame/engine set up pretty good, I just can't see the need to spend money to make my bike harder and costlier to repair and service and it will never handle like an XB anyways. What's the point except to have something different, you already get that by having the M2.

i did the same to my buell and it was easy bolt right up type of thing. i bought x1 triple clamps and the forks and it bolted right up. even uses the same bolts and bearings theres no difference in the axles. i work for a hd/buell shop and have researched this before i did it

Greater adjustability out of the inverted forks. Don't know about the unsprung weight, but I just wanted my rebound and compression damping. Also less flex in the fork legs IIRC.

I installed S3 forks on my M2 -- swapped both trees and the forks -- axle and spacers appear to be the same, though I didn't take a mike to em --

I did it for the increased adjustibility -- while there is likely less flex, I doubt if I ride hard enough (non-track days) to notice, but the adjustability is great to have
