Hi guys [and gals?]
I have kinda asked this before, but I am really wondering now.
I weigh 300 pounds, depending on the lunch special.
Am I killing my M2?

Your rear isolators might take more of a beating than "normal"

Is your M2 complaining?

I believe the weight capacity of an M2 is somewhere in the 390# range so you should be fine, but make sure that the preload is set for your weight.

On a side note though, I increased the preload on my rear shock for two up riding and the seal failed after a few months. It may have failed anyway since it is common on older tubers.

Haven't set the pre-load. I keep procrastinating.

I seem to feel more vibes than I remember. not big pounding sporty vibes, just buzzing.
The right handlebar and left peg.

If you don't up the preload, you may be compressing the rear suspension to the point where the change in geometry (swingarm in relation to frame etc.) causes the isolators to compress too much in one direction, letting the isolator bolt head hit/rub against the inside of the isolator = more vibration and most likely less life of isolators. I did that on the S3 riding 2-up with luggage. Went away when I dialed up the preload.

Get a cheap strap wrench and a large adjustable and make the adjustment.

I will set the pre-load.

I notice that I get buzzing on the right half of the fairing too.

also make sure when you are compressing the rear that your belt is loose enough and not getting tight. i found out that a too tight belt riding two up caused vibration.

Silas,

You need to adjust the rear preload very badly, it will turn into a new bike when you do. I also run my rear belt scary loose. I had my buddy check the play while I was sat on the bike. When she is unloaded the belt will touch the swingarm if pressed upward.

You have to watch out for your oil tank too. You could be rubbing your rear hugger against it when you hit a large bump.

I'm 6'3" 280.

Just went for a quick spin.
At 90-100 mph, the thing is soooo smooth, I really still can't get over it even after a year of ownership.
80 is the speed it just loves.

Anyway, I will adjust.
Good to hear from another Big Boy. I have gained 30 pounds since I bought the bike.

I weighed 265 when I got my M2, just sorta crept up on me. When I hauled *arse, I had to make 2 trips. Bike goes much better now at 205, but I never broke anything at that weight. (looked better at 265 on my shovelhead, I'm told)
Ooooooopppps, that's how I made it to 265.

*thanks to our brothers from across the pond

Check your rear motor mounts for rubber tearing. Install the new rear isolators that have the metal "wings" (2000 and up.). These increase the payload capacity. Also install the new Torx bolts.

Also install the new Torx bolts.

Call Al at American Sport Bike and get the proper socket head bolts save your self some major grief.

Torx suck!

I go a thin 275lbs and I set my preload with like 2 threads showing works for me. I'm still working on front shocks.

Dialed in LOTSA preload on both ends, made a big difference in handling and is a bit less "buzzy" too.

Nice bike.

Well, tonite was my first ride since August 7th [been busy at work]
I had forgotten what a great little bike I have!

I know I look like a circus bear on a unicycle, but no matter how I look, I love my M2.

I was thinking that I should get a bigger bike, at 290 [I lost a few pounds] I weigh about 3/4's of the bike's weight.

I added lots of preload, but what else can I do in terms of suspension? Front and rear?
