Ok, since Im a newbie on the Buell scene, can you guys give the scoop on my Buell??
I bought a mint condition Yellow Pearl 95' S2 Thunderbolt, signed sideplate, etc.,20k Miles, super trap, Avons, other than that it is stock. I bought it because I have owned 8 other sportsters (1200s) and I like HD,,but I also like the sport bike style. The price of the bike was rock bottom, so it seemd like a good deal. I have been to several forums and several people have trashed the S2 as big, slow, and clumsy. Yes it is big and heavy,,but slow it ain't and it handles better than any Harley I have ever riden, including the 750 Dirt Track Racer that I owned..So what are the good, bad and the ugly things about this bike... PS: This forum rocks,, you guys are the best bikers I have met yet....thanks the newbie buell-guy,,, ron..

Hi, welcome,
Do a word search on S2, then sit back for about 97 hours and read up on what's been posted on the site here about S2's. There's a whole sub-section of pics of them where you could post a pic of your's as well.

As far as going to "other" forums go, you'll see the same thing to some extent on this site as well. You should hear some of the things some people here say about GSXR Suzuki's, Hayabusa's, Kawasaki's, Ducati's, and so forth. The internet is full of people with opinions.

The good about the bike? It is what it is.
The bad? It is what it is.
The ugly? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

A tool is best defined by it's intended use, a V-Rod Destroyer doesn't corner too well, and a Honda mini-trail 50 isn't likely to go 150mph. The S2 is a good bike built at a time of transition and enthusiasm, a time like which may not ever be seen again. Probably cost more to build than they sold for, worth more now than they sell for. They're made to ride, so I do.

Welcome aboard.

Hi Ron

Congratulations on a good bike purchase. You'll likely find that the S2 owners here are just a tad biased towards liking their S2s.

Here's current thread:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=4062&post=684768#POST 684768

You already found the Old School Buell, where you'll find lot's more S2 info:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/47623.html?1151517707

Your best bet for digging for information here is the search function:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/search.cgi

It'll keep you current on ongoing threads: search for "Messages since I last searched for new messages:" is the best and most underutilized function.

Regular searches for terms works great too.

Welcome aboard.

Henrik

Congrats on the new bike the S2 is nice but a little slow and sluggish, what you REALLY want is an X1, they REALLY rock!

Cyberfly, I have two S2's. I like them because the jap or (sport) riders and the die hard HD folks just dont know what to make of them. A few mods and you can take a busa in the turns. A six speed trans and a R1 can be surprised. The possibilities....

The S2(S2/S3) in my eyes...

To ME, its not an attractive bike at all, THOUGH, it is asthecially pleasing(nice flwooing lines, tube frame, great proportions)...make any sense?

Now, it is a basically stock sportty motor..

That said, it probably will last a bit longer than my motor(especially considering how I ride)...

It can be tweaked quite a bit, for more performance... a set of N4 cams(drop in), and a set of t-storm heads, and work the carb over, you shoudl be right around 100 hp(NOT to the wheel), as that is basicaly a X1/99 and up S3), minus the fuel infection(which is growing on me)...

The hard bags, the front fairing, adn all, make it VERY functional as a daily ride, unlike my X1(which I ride ALL the time)..

MikeJ said it best, it is what it is..

Its a simple, functional, reliable bit of bike...ride it, flog it, love it, hate it..

Just keep up with it, and like anything else, it shoudl treat you great, as it the trend I have seen with S2s...

Welcome to BadWeb, grab on, and enjoy the ride...

Chase

The S2 is the Holy Grail of tube framed Buell's.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

It is indeed rare to find those who hear the same drummer...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/110378.html?1133590915

quote:

I like all motorcycles, but the S2 never fails to evoke pure passion and remind me of that feeling I had when I was 8 and watched the big kid down the street ride off on that motorcycle.

When that engine rumbled, you could go anywhere...the world was a slate and the bike a piece of chalk. I dreamt of just "getting on and going". My dream got serious the day the older girl across the street took me on my first "long ride" from Topeka to Dover, KS on this 1952 Cushman that sits here in my office. That day it was as if I'd been taken up in a hot air balloon and seen the globe from above. I suppose I knew I'd always own a motorcycle as my personal front row ticket to participate in life instead of being a car bound spectator.

The S2 is the single motorcycle that, without fail, makes that dream come true each time I get on it. It's about passion, life and people.

That suits me.

Court

Welcome Ron !
Share the Passion.
Enjoy the ride!

Ron:

You are going to love the S-2. It's a motorcycle yet to be truly appreciated. It's wonder is a legend spun from one of the oddest set of commercial coincidences that saw timing, need, desire, design and passion collide.

The bike was the result of a process where cost took a back seat to getting the bike built and for sale. You couldn't build an S-2 today.

I've owned many motorcycles, 9 of them Buells and ridden many more. I have two that I'd never part with.

My S-2 has seen 44 states and will see more epic adventures. Each time I leave home, the world gets a bit bigger.

Congratulations.

The S2 does have nice styling, well ahead of their time. I like the older S1's too, both have that very naked bad ass look. There was a 97 S2T at Cosmopolitan motors near where I live in the spring. Cosmo is the importer for Benelli. It had 7,000 miles on it and they were asking $3,200. I could not figure a way to squeeze that from my budget. It was clean and dry, totally stock, had the broken front muffler mount but otherwise pristine including bags. And cheap as dirt.

Ya know I can't remember if it was a 96 or 97 so I guessed a newer one. I never rode an S2 but the owners are so utterly in love with their bikes I figured they know something I don't and want to try one. Besides it's my goal now to collect Buell's and save them for posterity.

I really like my S2. But it does feel a little weak. I keep debating on having it worked. But instead of pouring money into it I could just buy a Speed Triple. I don't know if I will sell the Buell though. Because 1) I won't get much for it. and 2) It would most likely get chopped up.

Where can I get some for my S3?

I have an S1 and S3 but now I need an S2. Wonder how I'm gonna swing that one by the wife?
