I smoked a monster duc well i think it was only a 600 but still thats one in the books..more like 2 or 3 cause we raced the next few lights as well.My poor buddy.
it gets kinda scary when the frontend gets up for an unintentional wheely thuogh then turns slightly to the right but its kinda erotic as well.(i wont go into detail).

Anyhow WOOT for buell.

Careful out there. And think twice about goading your pal to ride faster than he is capable of.

Words of advice. Enjoy the friendship!

Awe c'mon, a Monster 600 will barely break 100 mph.

A friend has the S4R and it smokes my 100 rwhp S1W everywhere.

My comment was about an XB being (obviously) faster than a 600 Monster. That would not be the case for an S4R Monster.

What makes you think a Buell is more fun to ride on than a Monster S4R? I can see how both brands make great fun rides.

I know this much too when it comes to fun riding. The S4R can pull monster (pun intended lol) wheelies, hooking 1st through to 4th gear. Which Buell can do that outta the box?

Rocket, obviously comparing our bikes to a M600 isn't really fair, but hey, it's still fun to pull away from your friends regardless of what they ride.
Going on to compare our bikes a a S4R is even more unfair. What does a water-cooled, overhead cammed, 8-valve motor have to do with this thread? Why even bother to bring it up?
A reasonable comparison would be against the air-cooled, 4-valve,900's and 1000's against which we compare pretty well. If you prefer Ducati, that's fine, I like them too and would certainly enjoy owning a S4R.
My brother owns a M900 (my S3 is quicker) and I've ridden it many times and like it, but that engine in the S4R ruins the looks of what is one of the all time classic designs. That said, the Monsters are in desperate need of a styling update IMO...

No, no pat on the back Puscifer, but if you had lost to that M600 we would of had to kick your A$$ : ]

One factor we really need to consider is that Buells are a lot less expensive and much lower maintenance and still tons of fun. A Duc is a dream bike for me but I know I could never ride it everyday, it would be too expensive and I can't wrench it myself.

Well I get tired easily of hearing a lot of shit posted on the BadWeB about Ducati's. That and the fact that the first line of this thread said I smoked a monster duc well i think it was only a 600 but still thats one in the books..more like 2 or 3 cause we raced the next few lights as well. Well, Monster Duc's also come in S4R form too, and the author above was talking about Monster Duc's.

I've owned my S1W from new for 8 years come next month. In all that time I've put about 15000 miles on her. Don't let me get into ALL the unreliability issues that bike has suffered because that's not the point. I could have been the unluckiest Buell owner on the planet for all I care, and I don't anymore. But the best part of owning a once unreliable (not all BMC's fault) Buell is this. It makes my 916 look fantastic.

My friend owned my 916 for nearly 8 years before I bought it. In all that time it's never once broken down in the many thousand of miles he covered on it. I've put several thousand miles on it myself in the past three years, and yes they are nearly all hard fast miles, and it has needed one repair in all that mileage. I had to modify the rear wheel hub when a circlip failed. A common problem on early 916's that Ducati modified later. Mine had slipped through the recall it seemed. What else? A new battery last month. Fact is, it really is a fantastic bike in every sense. There is nothing that you could do to make it better, except develop it into a 996 and then a 998. It's a modern day classic and a great road bike as well as a world class winning racer. Now if you asked me if Bubba Blackwell could jump 24 Greyhounds on one, then the S1W beats it.

Yeah, a Duc 996 or 998 is the one for me but I hear they need a factory valve adjustment every 1000 miles. Is this correct?

When it was time to buy a new bike, I test rode (among other things) a brand new Ducati Monster 620, and a used Buell M2...

Guess which one I bought.
