Hi I was looking at some receipts that came with the bike and saw
Rear belt replacement
Rear belt $175
Labor 4.2 hours $285.60.
4HOURS??????????
175 for the belt? OMG and 4hrs labor is it really that involved and how often do the belts wear out, this is on a 2002 M2 with 13,000 miles was done last year. Im hoping Ill not be replacing this in the next 20,000 miles or longer.

Yep it takes me 2 to 3 hours to change a belt on a M2.
It ain't easy...

M2 and S3 bikes are a pain because they don't have a "secret panel" in the frame.
Still, 4 hours is silly.
Daves charged me $140 for my last belt.

New XB12 belts fit.

My first belt lasted about 45,000 miles but my second only lasted 12,000. (it said "sportster" on it and cost $175)

There is a trick for swapping out M2 belts. It has something to do with lowering the swingarm mount.
I have an X1 so it only takes me less than an hour.

So in conclusion: DON'T FREAK OUT. Everything will be fine.

What you do is, you convert to chain. That can be done without pulling the swingarm.

It only takes one hour to change the belt.

Compress the ISOLATOR on the LEFT SIDE !!!

Then use "A" or "THE TOOL" to remove the
RIGHT ISOLATOR ...

I don't think that the tool really spreads the frame. From what I could see, it seems like it actually compresses the isolator on the other side of the frame.

When I replaced my belt at 48,000mi. I dropped the swingarm since I'd only serviced the bearings once before when I replaced the isolators. To make the reinstallation of the swingarm a little easier I lightly greased the swingarm side of the isolator and it slid right into place with the isolator held in place by big c-clamps.
I was able to do the work myself and only took 2 hours. That was sitting on my garage floor and no special tools.

There is a tool at the dealership that is used to drop the belt side isolator so the new belt slides through the gap.
Unfortunately there's probably not anyone there who knows how to use it.
