Am I the only one that finds that your bike becomes a money pit???? Not that I'm complaining because part of the problem is I don't know when to stop. Here's just a partial list of the expenses so far this winter:

Bored cylinders with new pistions: $300
Top end gasket kit: $80
Crossroads bars (used): $50 (gottem for a steal : D)
Buell CF race aircleaner: $125
Second race aircleaner: $100
Sandblasting frame: $40
Powdercoating: $240 (frame, bars, dash, misc. bits & pieces)
Paint: $250
Transmission rebuild: $120

I'm already over $1000 and I still haven't had my heads re-valved and polished.

And what do I have to show for it....a TON of parts sitting in boxes in my garage. I'm hoping to get some work done tomorrow. I finally have a whole day to dedicate to working on the bike.

I should mention this all started with a simple base gasket replacement.

Keep watching this same Buell channel for more updates. I should have some pictures available in the next few days.

No better, no worse than a hole in the water you can toss money into.

Dennis, it appears you are suffering from a classic case of scope creep! I fear this may start afflicting me, since my bike is now paid for and I can actually think about saving up some money to make it more fun!

It's a Disease really, It's always just "one more part". If it's not parts for the Buell it's wanting another bike. You just can't win.

Did you do it yourself?

"Hey, it's still cheaper and better for you than heroin."

That's funny because I ran across this quote the other day:

"Racing makes heroin addiction seem like a vague wish for something salty." ~ Peter Egan : D: D

No, it's only a problem if my wife actually finds out that my "corrective actions" are actually "smile enhancers", so until she figures that out, I guess I'll keep feeding my addiction.

Hey - at least it's for improvements beyond just bringing your ride up to spec! My adventure started with a 2005 income tax return...
I rescued a 2000 M2 that was advertised as "well kept and maintained, runs great, looks new." Uh-huh. It hadn't run in forever, plugs were fouled, battery dead, blinkers no blinkie and had barn dust all over it that had been swirled around with a damp rag 'to clean it up a little fer ya.' Plus, it had been dropped so it needed a new clutch cable, blinker lens, grip and the handlebars were bent. The black M2 was like "save me from the hayseeds!!" I just can't abandon the poor bike so take it home with me. I'm stoked to finally have a Buell in that garage!

First, spent a little money to get it running; replace the blinker relay, clean the gas tank and fill it with fresh gas, clean the carb, new plugs, new battery and new oil. Hey - it runs! Wash the bike (took hours).
Reference BadWeb. Research the easy "drivability mods." Got the service manual and then do the carb mods, K&N filter, gut the airbox, and wrestle with installing a Pingel petcock for better fuel flow (had to use JB Weld to build up a base at the bottom of the tank so it would seal correctly).
Ride the heck out of it for about six months. Joy! Glorious, paint-shaking, bug-eating, riding JOY! It's FUN, unique, has a "personality" and people always comment about how cool the bike is. In that time, however, the voltage regulator goes, the rear shock starts leaking, and the speedo sensor goes on the fritz (I'm going 75, 20, 45, 10, 0). Reference BadWeb. Replaced the voltage regulator and live with the other two items. Ride some more - more JOY! Then, starts buzzing at the pegs, and begins to leak primary oil like... Poland! Reference BadWeb. Front isolator is torn, primary tensioner thingy and primary gasket need updating, starter motor needs remounting (source of oil leak), and there's also a list of "while you're in there" items. My Winter project has just revealed itself. I stocked up on blue threadlocker, and Reference BadWeb.
The list keeps growing - replaced the header/muffler hanger bracket with the new 'Y' bracket. 90+ bucks - ouch! I got the bike for a good price, and I'm now starting to count up the fixes/mods/upgrades/tools, but then don't because I'm still feeling the 'glow' from the ride and the rescue. I'm still stoked that I have a Buell in my garage, and I'm really looking forward to the first Spring ride!

Now, just need new rocker box gaskets, a new updated speedo sensor that won't fry with normal use, repair/replace/ignore the leaky rear shock, and it needs tires.
After that I may powder coat the seat, install muffler bearings or some other exotic performance upgrade - like replace the rear isolators.

Moral of the story: Maybe buy an XB to begin with, and BadWeb truly ROCKS! :-)

p.s. Thanks, DaveS, for all the parts - I have you on speed-dial...

Bomber...powder coating the seat goes hand-in-hand with installing muffler bearings: D: D

Coolice...nope, never managed to finish the garage. It will be a summer project (yeah, right: D) I'll be at the CLASS school on June 6th. Also planning on 4-6 track days this year.

Bluz...I was having some troubles with first gear. After speaking to a number of people with the same symptoms, decided that 1st gear and 1st countergear dogs were worn. I did the work myself. My fingers are crossed that I did it correctly.

I throw away all the evidence so no one actually knows how much I spend,it's even bad for me to think about it once in awhile.
And the women are not immune to the same sort of drift, haven't you ever heard the old " lets paint the xxx room.Oh now it needs matching curtains, after which it is new carpet to match, and then the furniture is not right anymore, after which to adjoining room needs----"
My project drift Honda is almost done,by the way.
Besides,it's way cheaper than therapy----

I have a zillion dollars in my bikes....don't tell my wife.......just replaced the base gaskets, head gaskets, and rocker cover gaskets....should have powdercoated the seat...

I have two buell frames in the garage, that i am collecting parts for in hopes of raising up another S2 and maybe a battletrax m2 or track m2 bike....open the wallet, huh? and now I love the looks of the Triumph T100 bonneville....ahahhahaha. REX

The white continues on the bars, top clamp, dash, heat shield and frame brace. Rocker covers are getting an "anodized" blue paint (kinda like a blue clearcoat).

Finally got word that my heads are done. They are being boxed up and shipped out today. I have a few parts to get from Dave tomorrow but I'm getting closer. I very much need to get this done in the next 2 weeks. I leave for vacation on the 18th. Plus I need to get the motor broke in before homecoming. Oh yeah...did I mention I don't have another day off until my vacation. It's time to bear down and get wrenching!!!!

Couple more pictures...

The motor is now officially in the frame as of 10:10pm last night: D: D: D Tonight it's front end, back tire & either oil tank or wiring harness.

My goal is to turn the key on Sunday! It won't be 100% because I'm missing the exhaust wrap to cover the scratches from the Deal's Gap oops. But the rest of the parts are ready & waiting.
