I have a 1997 S1, recently kitted with NHRS XL2004 stage 3 heads (dual plugged & 11.5 comp),.585 cams, 1250 kit.

I have covered 500 miles running engine in with no aparent problems. Yesterday I went for a 20 mile ride & the thing suddenly pissed loads of oil out of the head/rocker breather pipe. I got home & refilled it with 750 ml/cc of oil..that was a lot of oil ...it covered me, the bike' the rear tyre & the road. I took bike out & the same problem occured, it seems to be happening at 4000+ rpm under moderate accleration conditions.

I am currently using 1997 S1 oil pump & I am not using the XB rocker covers.

WHAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM TO OCCUR?

WHAT CAN I DO TO CURE PROBLEM?

Any help is greatly received... I am at the end of my tether with this happening after I have spent vast sums of money on the bike.

thanks eze

Eze:

Check out the service manual on oil flow:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/Manuals/S1_1996-1997_Service/BU3b.pdf

Oil is not draining back down from one or both of your rocker boxes to to the main sump. It's got to go down either through the pushrod tubes, or through the passage referred to in #14 on the link above.

If it were my bike, I think I'd pull the rocker boxes and make sure my umbrella valves are in good shape, check to see that all gaskets are installed properly so as not to block any drainbacks, and make sure there's no debris obstructing the push rod tubes or the cylinder drainbacks.

Check the Knowledge Vault for information, too:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/6804.html?1124593131

Hope this helps!

Building too much crankcase pressure will cause the overflow as well. Blow by past the rings will cause something like that. Since it happened AFTER 500 miles, I would check for scuffing.

How do you have the breathers setup?

The breather pipes are pointing down & connect at bottom with k&n type filter. The first cure will be to point breathers up under the tank & then down left side of bike into catch can}

}how was bike before
bike was fine, prior to engine upgrade I never experienced any crankcase pressure problems

}could be a problem with umbrella valves
It could be but i believe new ones were installed
}could be blowby
could be, but i doubt it at 500 miles
}contact NHRS for advice
I will attempt to contact NHRS asap, it is difficult to do so due to work commitments & time zone differential. In all honesty perhaps NHRS should have been my first port of call for help.

thanks for the help folks

>>>.offering what I consider to the best customer service ever.

Typical Aaron.

He has my bike now.

Don't get me wrong. This is not a "relative position" marker. I'd have no hesitation in having my bike in the hands of Wes Brown or Ron Dickey either. There is a lot of talent out there.

But Aaron won't contribute to the BadWeB because Blake questions a BadWeB contributor / NRHS customer with regard to a similar matter / incident, yet here we have Aaron making out butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.

It's widespread knowledge about the tooing's and froing's of NHRS / NRHS and it seems every opportunity available Aaron is there waiting to proclaim his Sainthood.

Put it this way. NRHS have just made it public knowledge via BadWeB that Ryker's stage 3 heads are in some way involved in some bad blood that involves no one here and the only benefit of doing so from what I can see as an outsider is to make NRHS look good. This wouldn't be such a bad thing if NRHS were board sponsors still or hadn't fallen out with Blake over such similar matters, but they have so why the post here?

None of my business but someone needs to say it seeing as no one else will. There's a dark side at work here but some only choose to follow the light in which case it's possible one could be mislead.

I found it interesting that Aaron, placed on his business site an apology related to problems with customer service prior to his take over of the business. Including a number of things that most small business owners would consider "damning".
Whether or not he had any thing to do with the issue directly he has made an effort to "make it right" In this day and time that is not a common action. The act should be applauded,
Maybe some time when the issues related to his departure from this community subside he may elect to join us again as a sponsor I for one would welcome that, We are fortunate to have a number of folks that are reputable and in the know about high performence, his return would increase that number, What was done in the past can't be un done and dwelling on it benefits no one.
I seem to recall reading that Mr.Wilson has also been generous and hospitible to a number of members of this community in the past. Even though I have never met him it speaks volumes about what kind of person he is.

Nearly beyond reason, and we'd be remiss in not inlcuded wife Susan as well.

Aaron has always, I've known him longer than many hear, stepped up to the plate well before the need was often perceived.

If's just my PERSONAL OPINION, but wether it's been donating a bike to the Guggenheim so that Buell could be represeneted when Barber needed thier bike back, stepping up to foot the bill to bring folks to the US or paying thousands of dollars of a Buellers personal bills, expecting nothing in return, when the guy fell on hard times...is just the way I've come to see Aaron and Susan.

Let me finish by saying I'll state my opinion here as is within my bounds, but I won't debate it. Differnet folks will certainly harbor varying opinions to which they are entitled. Mine's here not to be confirmed or refuted, just simply stated.

My dealings with Aaron in business, and as a friend, have been beyond reproach. He and Susan are good people.

To keep a balanced point of view, my dealings with Pammy and Wes have also been superb. In my opinion, also very good people.

Seams like Buell riders have some of the BEST performance builders. This is not the case with other bike brands. We are lucky.

I don't care what has happened in the past. Mostly because I don't know what happened. All I know is that Aaron is going above and beyond with his customer service.

I've also been around on the internet car, bike, and bodybuilding chat boards long enough to know that a few key people can post one sided facts to bias the $$$$$ flow to one side. So I take what mods, vets, gurus, admin etc etc have to say about a competior with a grain of salt.

Can we not restart the war of words again. Blake and Aaron are both good people and can work out whatever problems on their own, better without any of our "interventions". Both expend considerable "resoursces" making our lives a lot better, each in their own way. Aaron is in business and will make whatever decisions he has to to keep his business functioning. I appreciate everything he has done in the past and hope he will continue. I have a tremendous admiration for anyone who strikes out and tries to build something like NRHS. Its real hard and 90% will fail in their first year.

I agree, the best first avenue for resolution is with the vendor. I'm sure NRHS will do their best to help resolve your problem.

Not to mention the free advertising he's just bestowed upon himself.

Listen mate, dress it up anyway you like, Aaron wasn't just defending his GOOD name. He was doing so publicly at someone else's expense, as he stated in his post. There are lots of us here who know exactly who he is pointing the finger at. Right or wrong who cares, but it is with similar circumstance that Aaron chooses not to contribute on BadWeB any longer. That's his choice but it isn't at all fair that he chooses to breeze in to defend his GOOD name whilst wagging his finger at someone else when he feels it necessary, especially since he's now preaching his Buelling skills over on SACBORG rather than here on the BadWeB. The way I see it is it's a poke in the eye to BadWeB and Blake too, who it has to be said has gone out of his way to accommodate Aaron's participation back on BadWeB to no avail. Hey and whilst we're at it let's remember that without BadWeB Aaron wouldn't have been fortunate enough to milk the Buell world as well as he has. Fart Smella that Aaron bloke.

I don't spend every second of the day on this website. so I havn't got much of a clue as to who you say he is pointing a finger at, nor do I care. my problem is current and what has happened in the past perhaps should stay in the past.

I see that somebodys posting has been deleted. I wonder how much censorship takes place on this board. Whats the other websites for Buells. Not sure I like all of this bickering and one sided censorship.

Could you respond to my head removal problem.

Ryker, you could take the (front and top)motor mounts loose(with a jack under the motor) and just lever the motor up and down as needed for head removal. That's what I do.

I would imagine that NRHS has removed their own post. I have seen no censorship on this particular thread.

so the xb fins fit through the top of the frame. If the fins were just about 3/8 shorter it would fit right through.

Pammy your from down in Fla. I had thought about once I fix my head issues. riding my bike down and getting it tuned properly. Since your the closest and fla has much warmer weather than Wisc. or Colorado.

There is a product out called direct link that we can use to tune the Buells(I haven't tried it yet). I just put a carb on mine. the fuel injection isn't very receptive to performance mods.

P.S.I am actually originally from North Ga.

Blake Ok I see that side, too. thanks for your input and lengthy posting. I don't have enough insider information to pass judgement. I am just thrilled that Aaron is helping me out.

Pammy, I have converted my X1 to hsr42 and twin tec ignition. Thus it should be a simple tuning job. Though the 12:1 domed pistons and the desire to run pump gas could be a slight challange.

back to my current problem.. those XB fins are too large to pull through the x1 frame. This is with the intake port facing straight up. any tips.

I can't answer your head removal problem because I don't have a X1 frame or XB heads but I do know Pammy and she is not a smart fella - just smarter than most fella's.
