I have a 2000x-1 with 13k on it I guess. clutch isn't slipping. I seems to shift hard, well atleast hard enough to go through a updated shifter 01update. I adjusted clutch which made it better but just not good enough for my likings. upon hard acceleration I find a false neutral between 2 and 3. It basically over shifts coming out of 1st, only on hard accerleration. I find myself being timely on shifting from 1st to 2nd to prevent the false neutral. basically it's a couple questions.
1. is there a change in shifter spring tension from 2000 to 2001 since there's a different style shifter, and I need to update that too. which in turn would make the hard shift.
2. Does my shifter paw need to be adjusted
3. should I change the shifter drum? american sport bike has a smooth shifter drum
4. @13k...change the clutch or simply could the clutch cause all this. It doesn't drag or slip.

Brian, I don't believe there are any internal differences in the 2000 and 2001 transmissions. I put a 2001/2002 updated shifter on my 2000 S3 as soon as I got it (the original shifter was lost in a wreck) so I can't comment on how big of an improvement it is.

Primary chain adjustment can affect shifting so check that too. Mobil-1 75W-90 synthetic gear oil is also said to improve shifting a lot (that's what I run).

My second gear is starting to get "soft" on my 2000 X1. If I roll on the gas hard in second, it will hop out of gear. Anyone have any ideas? Chain seems ok and I always ran H-D's sporttrans.
It has 53000 miles, perhaps it's simply wear?

natex it sound like your shifter paw is the culprit. It is what locks it in gear. I quess??? Yes, I'd say it is definitly wear. for you i'd be easy...clutch...smooth shift kit...new shifter paw, and youre off once again.

Nate, I've gotta ask...
In your profile pic, your bike is dangling from a tree like a Buell-piņata. What's up with that; was it full of candy at the time?

My belt poped on the way to work and my friend (signguyxb12) gave me a lift home in his pickup.
When we got home, there was no ramp.
There WAS a tree however.
Unfortunately, there was no candy involved.

Uhh let me go digging....

clean for now

I'm in the middle of converting it to a CV40. I have to fab some brackets for it.

The project that comes first is the X1 cherrybomb conversion. (I'll post that if it works out: ))
