I read some where that you can install the XB rocker covers on a tube frame buell, S1 in my case. It was suppose to give you better breathing and less oil puke since you got a better oil return through the heads. Anyone done this conversion? Less oil leaks? I'm considering doing this conversion on my buell as well. Any pics? Thanks in advance. Hodakaguy

Hodakaguy,
piece of cake and reasonably cheap also. Call Daves up at appleton HD. I'd bet he has a kit, or at least, he'll make it easy on you for the parts.

Also look here for some good pics. Jose did a nice job documenting the procedure here

The only place where any guessing comes in is how much you need to file down the front cover to clear the frame. I didn't do very much on my X1.

Good luck

Those are the instructions you want. I just had no idea how to post a link.

Here's mine...

A little hard to see but they did give more clearance for my rocker arms that were slapping the old XL style plus one less rubber seal.

I've got a set of XB rocker covers if you're looking for a set. Let me know.

I would possibly be interested, please PM me with what you are asking. what are the "real" advantage of the XB covers vs. the XL?

There's a guy who posts here (Buellish) that did the conversion with just the PCV valves. He drilled his stock rocker covers to install them. He says it works fine, it's just hard to get a 1" drill bit.

Any thoughts on this? Is there a baffle under the XB rocker cover where the PCV valve is located like in an automotive rocker cover?

That would be Buellistic. He used the PCV valves for a Blast on his.. He may have had his done before the XB's came out I can't remember.

No baffle.

The real advantage of the swap?
-One less gasket to fret about.
-Venting the top end from the high point. Thus minimizing any pukage.

And you clean up the side of bike because you have no more breather hoses off the carb side.

"That would be Buellistic."

Well, Buellish may have gotten the idea from Buellistic, but Mike Powell was the one who told me (in person) about doing this to his S2.

Sounds like an easy and inexpensive mod if you just get the PCV valves and drill the stock covers. I'm definitely doing this based on Mike's recommendation and the fact that I already have access to a 1" drill bit. It would significantly clean up the right side of my bike.

I know that the lower rocker box on XL & XB models are the same. Not sure if the rockers themselves are different, but the breathing system is much improved (dumped the umbrella for a baffle plate). You can always machine down your stock ones like mentioned before.

I drilled my stock rockers covers for PCV valves. The PCV's sat in close vicinity to the pushrods which is far from than ideal. It simply didn't work as well as using the XB covers.

All I had to do is bevel the inside edge of the front rocker cover to get it past that screw. I didn't like the idea of butchering the outside in any way.
