Thanks for removing my sloppiness admin. Thanks socal. Lib: Beautiful old bike-are you gonna restore it or just ride it? r-t I'm only gonna restore it with NOS or original parts I find at swap meets. It must be correct! There were 3417 ELs made in 49. The original paint (of which this one is not) was "metallic congo green". A special order color back then for 8 extra bucks! How many of those 3417 do you think opted for the green? Not many I bet. You can see the green where the blue is chipped. If only I could find a way to get the blue off without screwing up the green. How hard is it to learn to operate those antique controls? Foot clutch, hand shift, left hand spark advance? The foot clutch is really tricky turning left. I'm still learning. The hand shift seems natural. All gears shift forward 1-2-3-4. The spark advance is seldom changed. It is "push" cable operated (like the throttle) making it stiff and unprone to "accidental" adjusting. Getting into unrestored antiques is as infectious as riding Buells. Now I have an excuse to go to Wauseon, Davenport, and Eustis{sp}  . jose I think the o-rings came in 50. When I first bought the bike, the rear plumber nut was finger loose and leaking like a sieve{sp}. I tightened it with my fingers. The guy cranked it up and it ran great! I've been told that back in the sixties, they painted bikes that were green some other color because green was considered bad luck. Damn them superstitious people! Buell content... I'm riding "Purple Haze" (S1) to Atlanta this weekend for the 100 year deal. Anybody else going? Jose, you and Mark going 864.266.0302? lib | ||

LOL is the S1 race faring that i cut and i ran out of paint  . I just wanted to get on the road, i crashed earlier this week {the 3rd} even cracked the cylinder head ouch) She is gonna have a wiked paint job here pretty soon. | ||

its a 97 S1. it does have holes drilled into the swingarm. The paint is DupliColor flexible bumper coating. I got it at a NAPA. It's not a bad paint...very durable...but came out a little flatter than I expected. What light(s) are you using with the fairing? Crashing sucks but it's a good excuse for "fixing" things. | ||

I know sometimes crashing can be good  . They are a projection lamp called pilot. I bought them at autozone, thats all i can tell ya. But make sure you get projection lamps not fog lamps, and if you do get the projection lamps there is a piece of tin you will have to cut out of the lamp that is designed to cut down on 360 light. | ||

UNreliaBuell! Houston riders network- Are you willing to pick up a stranded Bueller at 2:30 am? Heading home from work the fuel light comes on. I pull off the freeway to get gas. Fortunately the light was red. I was engulfed in a cloud of smoke, oil spewing everywhere. The entire right side of the bike and my leg covered in oil. The rear tire was soaked, would have made for an unsightly turn if the light was green. Had to push the bike for a half mile to a gas station and call for help.  | ||

Libnosis Man, you're bringing back some memories. My first real bike was a purple/maroon '48 panhead that I bought for $500 while a private in the Army. Had to stop every 100 miles to disassemble the clutch & clean the disks to stop it from slipping. Lotsa stories about "suicide" clutch pedals & spark/advance mishaps that I won't bore you with... you're gonna have some fun. Capt. Pete | ||

Hey Skulley, Had the same thing happen to me going 85mph on I-20 headed from Atlanta to Alabama. Main oil line blew going to a lockhart oil cooler. A BRASS fitting sheared and I learned a valuable lesson the hard way not to use brass on a rubber mounted engine. Though the same set up worked fine on my sporty. Saw the oil pressure warning light by chance and managed to limp it to the side of the road billowing smoke before anything seized. Had to change the rear brake pads and tire too, least I didn't park it in the weeds... Hope this tid bit of wisdom helps someone out. | ||

The used mower oil was just a funny. I just changed the oil thursday, (Mobil 1 syn.). I cleaned it today and fired her up, no spewing. Guess it would at 6k. Looks to be a front cyl. rocker box gasket. Found oil collecting at the base of the front cyl. intake push rod tube. Also the breather bolts feeding the Devonator are heavy leakers. Im gonna try a few cans of that radiator stop leak stuff. | ||
