I'm not a big fan of McCarthy, but really? Those Republicans so opposed to him are practicing contempt prior to investigation.

They are not even giving him a chance, knowing they can call for another vote in the future if he does horribly.

The Republicans are looking like a bunch of monkeys F...ing a football...

Morons. And they wonder why they didn't do as well in the midterms as they wanted.

Keep this up and it's a lock the Democrats take back the house in two years. And retain the Senate and Presidency.

The Democrats are cheering. Literally. Cheering. In the House Chamber. They are laughing their asses off and popping corks.

Good job Republicans, good job. You had one job...

I'm about done with them. I've stayed a Registered Republican so I can vote in the Primaries, but this colossal F-up has me livid. Think I'll go full Independent going forward. At the very least it will cut down on the amount of propaganda I get during election season.

You are looking at it wrong.

This is the first attempt at legitimate legal change of leaders in about a century. It will probably, almost certainly, fail, but it's a warning shot across the bow of Establishment Same Old in your lifetime.

And of course the Klan Party is cheering. They want to exploit any dissent they can. But the "rebels" here are liberty oriented and won't defect to them.

The last time the Speaker was not automatically elected it took many tries, over a hundred? & they voted to change the rules to "next vote, screw the rules, majority wins" to get it over.

So I don't see this as terrorism. It's a legal, open, power struggle between reformists and the Establishment.

And I'm enjoying it, we'll see if I regret that.; )

Independent means I can't vote in primaries. That gives up any voice I have. I get texts every day.

The Establishment is no friend of mine. Here on this forum I've railed against RINOs.
Like I said previously, I'm not a real big fan of McCarthy. I understand why some don't like him, he is kinda swampy. Which, is why I agree with those who want to give him a short leash, if he fails he can be voted out.

No other real candidate has stepped forward and said he/she wants the Speakership. None.

Jim Jordan nominated McCarthy. Unless he's playing 4D Jedi Mindtrick Chess and secretly does want it, those voting for him are wasting time and making the Republicans look like a laughingstock.

I equate this with arguing with your significant other in public. It shouldn't be done. Argue behind closed doors if need be, but present a United Front against your adversary(s). This is going to harm the entire Republican Party, and the whole country along with it.

We simply differ in how we want to see an evolution go down. Normally the dealing goes on in smoke filled rooms out of sight.

Last time a buncha Rs signed a pledge to not vote for the predesignated driver, then promptly broke their pledge because someone convinced them to present a United front, to keep the dirty laundry hidden.

This time it's about 20 guys saying, no more business as usual. Guys who were threatened to be kicked off committees if they didn't go along.

I don't have an informed opinion on who I'd want. But I'm enjoying the show that angers you. Not Because it angers you! But because after failing to take the House & Senate with a big margin, it's obvious that it's time for a shake up.

Sausage being made isn't pretty either.

I'll take your advice on who's a good choice. Consider my advice to watch the sausage making with interest, but save the rage for later. Maybe tomorrow an asteroid will strike! There's always hope. : )

I'll point out that "The Squad" of commie antisemite racists tried to depose Nancy, but it was a passion play fake occupation stunt. They didn't have the numbers or cojones to delay Nancy's triumph.

My sister is upset that a minority ruins everything. That's always the bitter truth. The nation is divided roughly 40%/40% that are reflexive automatic votes, with 20% deciding our fate. Lots of historic examples going back to Athens.

I'll definitely watch the sausage being made with great interest. Normally I would applaud those standing their ground. They certainly have some cajones. I do see what they are trying to accomplish, and think it's an admirable goal. Just not one likely to succeed. Not unless an electable alternative candidate clearly steps forward.

The Republicans have two years to show what they can do. The clock is ticking, and they are off to a really bad start.

Meanwhile, guess I'll go pray for that asteroid strike. Maybe sacrifice a gallon of milk on the Holy Alter of Dairy.

There's the old saying "those that can, do, those who can't, teach", which is unfair and not really true.

Today it's those who want to diddle children, teach, and those with mental illness, narcissistic sociopaths, run for office.

That's still unfair. There are many dedicated teachers, and a few decent politicians, but unfortunately it's also true.

The nearly week long revolt in the House got Citizens a little reform. Not everything the rebels wanted, and they knew when to fold to get anything. The Establishment was about to take the day off and negotiate with the Dems to have several stay away and appear on talk shows.

Who knows what screw job the Establishment Reps would have agreed to to win without compromising with the conservative/tea party rebels? So the partial surrender was the best they could get.

It's like a smart Union striking.

You want to get things better for the workers. You don't want them to lose their jobs. That can happen if you push too hard and the company goes under.

It also can happen if the company has enough bribes to politicians so they can violate the law and fire everyone, then replace everyone with non union scabs. That happened at Firestone when the Union went on strike because old equipment without guards was injuring and killing employees. So upper management fired them. And got away with it by bribing elected officials.

That's why I won't buy Firestone or Bridgestone products. ( same company ) Even though Bridgestone Blizzaks are great snow tires.

The Republican Establishment, who, btw, hates Trump More than the Democrats, didn't quite get to do that. They couldn't actually fire the rebels, but they were going to cut them out of the decision making positions. That was the threat made BEFORE the votes, and sparked the mini revolt we saw on CSPAN.

And then everyone in media lied to you about it. Again. As usual.

For a brutally straight take on this, biased! Agreed! But interesting, Representative Gaetz was on Tim Pool's show and talked.

Amusing was that AOC was in one aspect, on his side. She didn't want the D's to leave to let the R Establishment win either. Her motivation was different, internal Party stuff on her side of the aisle, but you take support where you get it.

Imho when you're trying to get the den of snakes to do what you want, you will take the support of the vipers if it gets the rattlers to go along. Or you could use demonic analogies that fit better. : )

Until we get a Tom Clancy reset on Congress, it's going to be nasty. Most are older and all richer, than me. Few as honest as I'd like, even with my cynical awareness/opinion that the best I can hope for is they aren't actively Evil.

I'd rather discuss the circles of Dante's Inferno, and the Niven/Pournelle sequel, than Congress. Hell is less depressing.

I don't think the Establishment Republicans have a plan to sell their agenda. Which seems to be status quo and keep those bribes coming in.

I'm thinking a coup to restore Lincoln's Party might be needed. I just want it to be a Tea Party Liberal coup and not an abolitionist one.

How about them RINOs in Arizona who expelled a Republican member of the state house of representatives?

I don't have a link handy, I'll have to hunt it down and post it up.

She was expelled from bringing in a "conspiracy theorist", to speak to a committee she was on. They found her guilty of an ethics violation. Sounds more like they just wanted to shut her up. Might have been a dumb move, but an ethics violation worthy of expulsion?

My thinking is its a Democrat reprisal for the 3 boobs in Tenn who brought the ANTI gun nuts to the state house and shut the session down, as well as led some heckling

The difference in some cases between a conspiracy theorist, an expert witness
is the room.......

On the gun thing, taking my guns and my right to self defense to solve the mass shooting thing is bogus idiot, inbred, stupidity.

Arm the staff, like at the court house or the state house, kinda obvious, but the politiboobs cant seem to grasp this.

some times these people are worse than small children, silly petty and foolish.

The ethics violation was disparaging other members on the floor not bringing in a guest speaker with whom they disagreed. Worthy of expulsion? Not in my book, but it was an ethics violation.

Hoot, thank you for the clarification.

Yup, disparaging others on the house floor is a dumb thing to do, no doubt about that, she could have said things differently I suppose. But...

...How is it Democrats seem to get away with it constantly?

And expulsion? Way overkill. I hope she gets voted back in. And takes the matter to court. I think she was right in saying this is the Republicans way of saying: Toe the line or else...

I absolutely agree with Patrick when he says the Establishment Republicans hate Trump and those like him as much or more that the Democrats.

The whole country is a swamp.

The Establishment Republicans, bitter enemies of Outsider Trump and Tea Party Members, is just as deserving of ( insert medieval punishment of Choice ) as their So Called Opposition.

Me, I'm a Vlad Tepes fan from way back.

That's hyperbole, of course. Not sarcasm. I'm a peaceful old guy who wouldn't dig a single post hole for the stakes we'd need to emulate old Vlad. And I still hold to the fading hope that the system can be restored to a semblance of believability.

I've heard a range of opinions on the legal, orderly, by the rules, firing of the Speaker.

I'm not sure that it was the best idea, but we will see. I do know it's a good thing to be able to fire a Speaker. If you can't, it's how you get the fossils running DC until they literally drop dead. Like whatshername.

Thinking realpolitik, the Rs just are not going to get everything they want on their wish list. And I'm not sure what the list is?

Close the border?
( in Joe's* term, 6+ million, or the population of Kentucky or Massachusetts came in. What effect is putting an Entire State on welfare Better than Citizens get? Imho it's the most important, and the least likely to achieve goal. I don't think it's hyperbole to say the Other Side is willing to kill you to keep it going. )

Ukraine aid?
( I'm all for resisting Putin's aggression. I'm just sure Joe* will screw it up. What's the actual goal? Recover the kidnapped children and women? Restore the border line to pre-Joe* 2 years old borders? 2013? Conquer Russia and rule from ?? )

A legal budget, not the CR fake brinksmanship, zero restraint insanity?

Actually cutting the budget of the racist agency? ( your choice )

In conclusion, you might get one, or two, goals, better than nothing, which is what we have now.

Actually I'm in favor of sending Ukraine a few billion more but not the DOJ, FBI, or Education department.

Defund the Secret Police!

I have multiple arguments in favor of funding resistance to Putin. But I also want to not pay Joe's* Crime Family instead.

Assuming that someone besides the DNC choice ever becomes President, the first Executive Order should be that Congress, congressional staff, White House staff, and both the President and Vice President don't get paid if they "shut the government down" because Congress didn't pass a legal budget.

Not, have paychecks delayed and get a bonus surge for not doing their jobs. Not Get Paid. No work, no pay.

The vast majority of Congresscritters are millionaires and could easily contribute to a fund to support their less fortunate colleagues. They wouldn't. They're greedy scum imho. But it's what responsible Citizens do.

It's also what Unions do when they strike for better wages & working conditions. The members contribute to a strike fund to support each other.

I point out the Republicans are "terrorists" for using the rules of government to argue who should lead them. Yes, a small group is responsible for kicking out the Speaker after they say he broke his promises. And sure, I think the R leaders are complacent Establishment jerks. Yep.

Otoh the Democrats are cheering rapists and baby killing terrorists, funding commie groups burning black businesses here, and threatening to send their Enemies to reeducation... Which really means from this last century of leftist mass murder, mass murder.

So obviously the definition of terrorists is "flexible" ... For fools.
