>>> When I definitely shouldn’t have

Don't feel too bad, you're not the only one that wanted to believe the best. Millions maybe billions of people wanted to believe the best about China. Many still do. Not me, hopefully not you any longer.

China's leadership is evil. Their plans are for world domination. Nothing else will suffice, and they have no problem killing anyone or thing in their way. Including their own people.

I wrote a song about China and their plans almost twenty years ago now. It included the lyrics: My Radio Flyer is now Chinese, they will not stop until we are on our knees. Time has done nothing to change my mind about that.

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2022/11/the -daily-chart-greenies-need-to-take-more-lithium.ph p

I feel obligated to point out I can't verify this chart from a politically biased source.

Oh, I don't doubt it a bit.

Not only is it ridiculous to assume you can mine enough minerals to build enough batteries to store power that is only on less than half the time, ( wind/solar/tidal/treadmills ) to keep civilization running today, it's literally impossible in the future. ( unless the WEF Elite get their wish and "reduce the population by half" by 2050, then, presumably, keep going until it's a few million elite, servants, robots, and serfs to grow organic feed for the Waygu cattle, etc. Then? Why sure. )

And I'll repeat my rant on how incredibly stupid it is to use "high tech" lithium batteries for stationary mass storage of electricity.

High power per pound batteries are a great thing for cars, bikes, even the E-Ultralight I want for Christmas.

Heck, even the Power Wall is a nifty product if you can afford it, leveraging the cell production for other uses, like, oh, Cars.
( but if they sold one for less cost to you and the environment, that would be a smarter choice. Someone will get rich offering that choice, I predict! )

Dumb as rocks to put in the grid.

The first analogy to come to mind is to use the wrong engine for the application.

You don't use Top Fuel Hemis to run generators to power a town. Diesel might make sense. ( see many towns in the Arctic )

You don't use a locomotive diesel to drag race.

Better is you don't use Top Fuel Hemis to drive a container ship. They use even bigger diesels!

I admit "Appropriate Technology" as a phrase, is easily abused by dishonest people. But it really applies here.

And I'm serious, if someone starts selling batteries with the best dollar per watt hour metric vs. Pound per watt hour... There's money to be made.

I've read that Science Fiction fans are the best equipped to deal with first contact with aliens. : )

And, you know, the Future!

I've got my doubts. : )

Depends on what they read & saw. I'd want you to have seen Contact AND Independence Day, and there's generations of written stories on First Contact, for example.

Some are very historically credible. See human "first contact" in history. Australia, America, ( apparently repeatedly ) etc.

Seems to be far better to be the incredible beings arriving in impossible ships than the folk on shore marvelling at their godlike powers.

Just saying. ; )

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/11/16/claim-clima te-models-are-imprecise-because-psychologists-were -not-consulted/

Despite an overwhelming scientific consensus on anthropogenic climate change, research suggests that many people underestimate the effects of it, are sceptical of it or deny its existence altogether. In a Review, Matthew Hornsey and Stephan Lewandowsky look at the psychological origins of such beliefs, as well as the roles of think tanks and political affiliation.

To limit global warming to a minimum, system-level and individual-level behaviour change is necessary. Several pieces in this Focus discuss how such change can be facilitated

In simple terms, after decades of lies people are getting skeptical and the Climate Exploiters need to improve their brain washing techniques until the scum Obey.

https://hotair.com/david-strom/2022/11/18/climate- models-suck-because-of-you-n511975

Instead of making a model for atmospheric effects of carbon dioxide on temperature, the climate modelers need some X factor of human psychology. Climate change, apparently, is a product of the mind, not of physics.

That is the claim being made. Amazing. The models failed to predict the proper amount of atmospheric heating due to increased CO2 because…we didn’t believe it enough? Is that what they are saying?

It appears so.

I have said before that the modern intellectual believes that reality is merely a construct of the human mind, and I suspect that many of you think I am exaggerating. I am not. When I was in graduate school I was having a nice discussion with another Dukie about physics, and she assured me that gravity only existed because we believe it does.

I invited her to jump out the 3rd floor window to prove her point. She demurred, because as a Western educated person she was still a believer in gravity. Seriously. She said that.

That psychology determines reality is a fundamental belief of many academics today, although rarely physicists or engineers, who confront reality every day and wrestle with it. This is how changing your pronouns changes your biology according to these people. They actually mean it.

Actually, after building 3 gliders in my garage and hundreds of hours of actual flying, plus at least dozens of hours of discussion with professional aeronautical engineers, ( not to mention actual class time ) I have a pretty fair grasp on how planes fly.

Pretty similar to the explanation of Atoms, there are layers of understanding and the book teaching proceeds from kindergarten simple ( atoms are the smallest bits, Greek Philosophers ) through "looks like a tiny solar system" into college level statistical mathematics and science fiction sounding buzzwords. ( probability wave function collapse of the electron quantum state... )

Bernoulli gets lots of credit early on ( how your carburetor works ) and "deflecting air down with Newton's Laws of Motion" ( see your hand in the flow out a car window ) through college level mathematics ( Reynolds Number? Wth is a Dimensionless Number?? ) and eventually you get to the sci-fi jargon. ( whole flow field vector analysis )

Since I don't have my high school copy of the Wright brothers wind tunnel anymore. ( it was cardboard and got recycled ) I can now show you the actual flow patterns with a kite in a snow storm. I'll even let you fly the kite yourself.

If you wait until the local lakes freeze over, I'll even let you get dragged over the Ice at insane speeds. Bring your own sled.

https://lawliberty.org/book-review/how-media-bias- caused-the-moral-panic-surrounding-climate-change/

I point out that there never was and never will be the Climate Crisis as described by the Con.

The feedback mechanism doesn't work that way.

I don't know exactly what combination of events triggered the Big Change from a Warm planet with dinosaurs and the Ice Age cycles that for hundreds of thousands of years have wrecked the upper latitudes.

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2014/12/vos tok-ice-cores-and-the-8000-year-lag.php

But it isn't ever going back to a much warmer world.

And the obvious fact is, that we are in a temporary warm period in a temporary warm period in a repeating cycle of cold.

I'm not saying that it's impossible for the Climate where I live to get better for a while before the Ice comes back and buries the area under a thousand feet of compressed snow. And that nice possible temporary future would suck to live through on the equator in places like the Sahara.

But it sucks there now.

Heck, at this point I want to sue the lying pricks because my heating bill is rising. A Lot! Let's go Brandon! Al Gore Promised!

From the comments

The point of the “German Energy Plan” was never honestly presented. If you worked the math, there was no way to get from Point “A” “Now” to Point “B” “The Green Future” and still have the same population living at the same living standard. Mathematically impossible.

Thing is, none of the rubes noticed any of that, just like here in the US.

Washington State is a perfect example… “No new petroleum-powered cars” by some ridiculously close date, like 2030 or ’35.

Meanwhile, nobody in the media notices that absolutely nothing is being done besides creating that mandate–No easing of restrictions on electrical generation plants, no easing of mining regulation to get more copper to build out the grid… None of that. It’s all just supposed to happen, somehow.

Yet, to meet those standards, damn near every house and apartment car parking space is going to have to be wired for an additional 40amp circuit per vehicle, minimum. Somehow, all that added infrastructure is going to have to be provisioned with generating capacity…

The whole thing is a scam. When the rubes finally catch on, the people behind it hope they’ll be safely locked in to the devolution of industry, and that they’ll be unassailable in their fastnesses. Reality? They’re gonna be eaten. Possibly alive…

Gee, I remember 1977 when in a cold snap the Climate Con officially began and the New Ice Age was declared.

Time to hound our politicians and ask them directly, and repeatedly why they have ruined lives by causing the cold weather that will murder hundreds this winter.

After all, they've CLAIMED their actions fight the Global Warming trend since the Prophet Gore declared he needed a way to get rich after losing his chance at massive bribes after the election.

Oh, I know they lied, you know they lied, and they know they lied. But now they should pay.

There's another ancient tradition besides Oracles predicting doom.

Sacrifice to appease the angry gods. Earthquake? Slaughter a young bull on the altar. Drought? Disembowel those slaves.

A cynic might notice the High Priests never sacrifice anything of their own.

Some things are eternal.

It doesn't matter how many cultists there are, it's still a cult. Especially when they claim it's not their religion.

But there are parallels with Islam, where Sharia is the set of rules to govern all human interaction. The Climate Cult practices it's own form of Sharia. Utterly intolerant. Murderous in it's rage against questioning.

I will say Fundamentalist Islam, with all it's misogyny, slavery, homophobia, and blame/shame/punish culture, just like the Climate Cult, has done better science before 1100 than the Followers of Gore have in the last half century.

Ducbsa, the pain relief from cannabis isn't in the reduction of pain. That's been known for years. It's the STML. Short term memory loss. You forget you hurt from moment to moment as you get distracted. The pain fades into a memory hole.

And that's documented.

An Israeli study noticed one of the cannabinoids were nearly identical to a hormone women produce in labor. It dulls the pain in retrospect.

To test this they have volunteers an antagonist that cancelled the hormone during labor. The women who tested it were 100% adamant that they would not go through that again. F$%& You! Don't Touch Me! The study included first time & repeat mothers. The second timers were shocked at the difference.

That hormone is responsible for the species survival. Without it, we'd die off. Some men from being murdered in their sleep. Seriously.

Obviously it's not as effective and/or strong in smoking a bong. ( they still do that, right? ; ) ) But I see the growers are working on specialty strains to help with pain & anxiety, as the chemical mix changes the effects.

Thus the results for actual pain Reduction, will require further study.

But for today, and your random choice of brand name product-buzz, it's more pain management than relief.
