Had a video chat with my brother and sister-in-law. Trying to figure out the logistics for the holidays. I found some pet-friendly hotels near them as I'd rather not leave Harry behind if I don't have to. My sister-in-law isn't big on cats so staying in their house despite them having plenty of spare rooms is out.

Everyone on my team at work has already taken the Friday after Thanksgiving off but with remote work there's no reason I can't work from Vermont on that day. Still trying to put all of this together. Then we'll see about Christmas.

Had a talk with my boss yesterday and he convinced me NOT to retire on the 31st of December 2022 but to make my last day the first payday of 2023. It's only six more days but by sticking it out to the next calendar year I will get one final 401K match from the company, plus instead of losing my incentive stock RSUs and bonus money it will be pro-rated based on my last day of employment. I think I can last another six days (actually only four more working days). As he pointed out, it's not like they'll be giving me any new projects to work on!

SO glad you're got a good boss!!! And DANG if that's not something to look forward to... Eyes on the prize, first payday of 2023. Wow, good on ya! I'd just like to retire from having my big schnoz on a grindstone... I'll never not work, like doing stuff too much.

Great post. Hope your chin is averaging a more level, hopefully a higher bank angle as of late!!! Have a great weekend, Jaime. I gotta put on a yard sale, yee ha? Ohh. : (

Memorial Patch my club members will be wearing on their vests. The thistle is in honor of her Scottish ancestry.

Thank you. My original thought was to base it around her clan's family crest but that would've been too complicated. The thistle was easier to work with and one of my artistic friends did the final design which we sent to the embroidery company to make the patches.

I'm really beginning to HATE insurance companies and our present health care system. Back on August 11th (as I detailed earlier in this topic) I got a statement from my insurance company that the hospital's claim for attempting to resuscitate my wife was denied because they said she wasn't covered. It turned out my company's HR department screwed up by reporting she died on the 22nd (that being the case, an INTELLIGENT person would wonder why the hospital was trying to revive someone who was dead for a DAY, but I digress). I was pulled into a three way conversation with my insurance provider and my company's HR department and after providing a copy of her death certificate it was straightened out and the hospital got paid.

I just found out the ER doctor finally submitted her own claim and it was rejected FOR THE SAME DAMN REASON!!! WTF is wrong with these people?? Wasn't the insurance company smart enough to correct her date of death the first time?? I had to get dragged all through this bullshit AGAIN!!!

Hey!! At least 2.5 days without Ftards ruining things. I am very glad to hear this, my friend. When my dad died, June 23, 1989, it took quite a dang while to hash things out. His birthday will be this coming Friday... I'll be pretty melancholy.

I'm 1000% sure the red tape, plaid tape, chartreuse tape and invisible tape have all gotten worse by this year of our Lord 2021. Hang in there, brother. To digress a bit, another thread here- I thoroughly dug the pic of you reading that book I don't have... YET. : )

Keep us posted. BTW, how does one cope with a wife who has the shingles on her face/eyelid/scalp?

halp...

????????

Holeee cannoli. Jaime, if I actually do have the image of his military issue grave marker correct (haven't been there in quite some time)... WOW.

We needs must get together sometime. God 100% certainly works in wildly mysterious ways. Regardless of anything else... heck, I'd love to just lead you on some of my favorite rides here in my part of beautiful Appalachia.

Gots me some great coffee, my honey talking to the Dr. in the other room trying to deal with her shingles defence, and... <my> face is a bit leaky this morning. I dearly hope you're doing OK today, Brother. Post up when you can. If ya wanna sometime... I'll post up one of my all-time favorite pics of Sakie.

My day should be pretty good... later today, I'll be helping out at our annual "Maryville Uncorked" wine tasting event. My 3rd year for this, always a great time. Jaime,
Our Lord knows... I wish you were here.

Hey! Back in from the event... things went splendidly!!! However. M is doing poorly. Apparently we are now entering the worst phase of the shiz on shingles.
After coming in feeling like a champion from bartending at this gala wine event, I helped tuck her miserable self into bed. Our little Rocky decided he really needed to sleep with Mama.

I'm winding down... looking forward to a sunny weekend. Marcia will be medicating at least 3 ways, many times a day. For the next several weeks. Won't be able to get a shingles vaccine until middle of next year, nor her third Pfizer for COTURD19 until her immune system recovers from this FCCKKING shingles.

GET THE SHINGLES VACCINE (Shingrix) IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY. We are worried about her losing her sight in one eye due to a genetic issue... have been for years now. Shingles is now approaching her OTHER eye.

If another squirrel bazooka doesn't fire into my face, it'll be a dang mortar from over there, I guess. Oh well.

Pretty OK mood now I guess... yeah, I am melancholy. James Alford Hardin's birthday is today. That would be a melon, in front of Gallagher, colic, and a frickin rubber bisquit.

Coping, I guess. Did make some killer good money without really trying, plus a case of fine wine for free, and $20 free food from Bluetick Tavern. Saw scads of old friends, made many new ones, all walking distance from home. Rode the CT110 there and back to do it, even brought home the case of wine in my attached crate. Still very sad for my beloved.

I'll be OK, don't have a choice in the matter.

I've never gotten the shingles vaccine before but this may be the year. I did have chicken pox as a child so I'm a PRIME candidate. I know that at my age my immune system isn't what it used to be. I never got the flu vaccine until two years ago for the same reason. Better safe than sorry.

My doctor did tell me the shingles vaccine probably won't prevent me from getting it (NO vaccine is 100% effective), BUT he did say that if I do get it, it won't suck that much. That's good enough for me. I see him next month and will get both shots. Still trying to figure out when I can get my third COVID-19 shot.

DO IT . She's making pancakes for me now... can barely approach the stove, because she feels the heat on her face. If I had the grill going, she couldn't come near it with the shingles. DANG. Every itch I get lately has got me paranoid!

I dreamed of her the other night. We were in the living room and she asked me if I could cut the tag off the back of her blouse. That was something she often asked me after putting on a new blouse because the tag would often irritate her skin.

In the dream, I KNEW she wasn't supposed to be there; I knew she was dead... but I took the scissors and cut the tag off, then looked at her and said "I miss you SO much." She looked at me and said "I know." Then we hugged and I woke up in tears...

Awesome closure dream, Jaime, I had one a couple of months ago where All I remember is seeing Lawana with short bobbed hair and angel wings, smiling down on me.

I had chickenpox twice, once when 5 and the other I was 15 or 16. Not worried about shingles. Knock wood.

Actually, you SHOULD worry about shingles if you've had chicken pox. It's the same virus that lie dormant in your body that suddenly comes back as shingles. I don't think I've ever read if they've figured out why that happens to some people (but not everyone) who's had it, but you should definitely consider the vaccine.

Dilaudid overdose. I heard from the County ME yesterday. She died of a dilaudid overdose. She must've taken them along with the antacids to try and relieve her stomach pain.

The sad part is that the stomach pains were actually caused by the dosage of dilaudid she'd been on for so long. One of the side effects of dilaudid is constipation. Her colon was packed with fecal matter and stretched in size, to the point it was ulcerated which explains the pain. Antacids wouldn't've helped.

I should never have let her sleep... I should've awakened her and taken her to the hospital. She might still be with me if I did. But on the other hand, this might've been a mercy. She died peacefully in her sleep. If she lived, she wasn't going to get better... she would've just kept getting worse and worse. I had suggested a wheelchair for her at one point but she wouldn't hear of it... she thought having to use a walker was bad enough.

I miss her so much. I know the pain is FINALLY over for her, but for purely selfish reasons I wish she were still here with me.

My first wife was a pharmacist and I have some experience with dilaudid. If she was taking them regularly she was in severe pain.
Dilaudid is essentially pharmaceutical synthetic heroin, very similar effects.
Really wasn’t anything stronger until fentanyl came out.

She was in extreme pain, but she always did her best to hide it. She really was the STRONGEST person I've ever known. At one point she had a pump embedded in her spine that kept a steady flow of morphine, but that wasn't strong enough even at the highest dosage which is why they switched her over to dilaudid. Then, last year, she picked up an infection that lodged itself in and around that pump and they had to remove it to clear out the bacteria. That's when they switched her over to an oral dosage instead.

Earlier this year they attempted to install another pump, but the surgeon botched the procedure and they had to remove it again so it was back on to the pills. The pills weren't as effective as the spinal drip... that might be why she accidentally overdosed.

OH Wow, Jaime. Just back on here after being covered up a bit lately. As hard as this all is for you, Heaven knows this hopefully will provide a bit of help for you... a scoche of closure. Dammit that's hard to process... even for me.

Talk about STRONG. Her love for you must've been King Kong whooping Godzilla strong. To endure such horrible pain. She inspires me now. THANK you for sharing.
Apparently it's true... behind any, ANY man, there will be a strong woman. And then, the man stands for her, and beside her. This is how it should and MUST be.

Keep at it, hang in there my friend. Information will lead to more closure. I and we have your back in this. Thanks again for sharing, my friend.
