o2, a buddy was watching a lecture on power generation. All the traditional ways end up with moving a wire by a magnet. Usually spinning. So, windmill? Spins a wire. Nuclear/coal/natural gas/pig methane? Spins a wire. There's a boiler & turbine, Or ICE, Or Gas turbine in the flow chart, then... A spinning wire. Then the lecture hit photovoltaic... Stutters to confused babble on quantum events. Amused him no end. ( former Marine Avionics tech ) Yep, solar panels are so weird, it literally took Einstein to figure it out. ( and he got a well deserved Nobel prize for that ) I also love Magnetohydrodynamics generators. You still just move a wire past a magnet. But it's in a straight line, at supersonic speeds, and the wire is plasma. Have a great day! Oh, and if you have any rational rebuttal to an error in my ( long rant and labeled such so anyone could ignore it ) rant above, Please correct me! I'd rather be correct than win an argument. Besides that it was triggered by a probably unintended error in phrasing that resembled evil intended agitprop that's a 24/7 bane on polite discourse. I already took the blame for that.  | ||

Heck, I emphatically began with the announcement it was a long, unnecessary rant, feel free to skip. The short follow up was probably all that I "needed" to make the point that.... ( point ) The Bad People aren't the "my family has benn R/D for generations" folk. They might be too dumb , numb, or last to think for and make a choice for themselves, but they also aren't burning cities sponsored by old Nazi Billionaires. Those are terrorists. The Old Nazi Billionaire and his partners, and the ones who ride buses paid for by his front organizations to loot and assault and burn. And in the 21st century there seems to be a lot more of One Party Sponsored terrorism in America than the Other. The "lone wolves" ( probably, not exactly like there was open & complete investigation into possible actual conspiracies ) who murdered Dr. Martin Luther King and shot up a softball practice, also seem to be Party Specific. I don't know about Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, but they don't seem to be Party Loyalists. | ||

Yeah, we are. Just sat back down to revisit here. I've yet to revisit and scroll back to our little dust-up though... gots great coffee and a bowl of cereal and strawberries to face now. Let me be clear as Svarovski crystal- I like neither of our many recent "choices" for POTUS. Biden might as well be half-embalmed already, and I do not like what the Democrats have become. The main thing about Trump, for me, is that right up front I saw not a moral fiber in him, and this seems endemic in his bloodline. But... one who speaks ill of the dead, when he just could NOT not shit on Senator John McCain's grave... c'mon. That proved out to me that at the very least he's not qualified to REPRESENT us in the highest office of OUR land. I cannot support a "man" who does such a thing, who also is a misogynist. End of rant, but do know I had to explain out this one thing. PLEASE, PLEASE help us find an old-fashioned Republican, at least in the mold of the Bushes or a few generations back. Been thinking about it... I was triggered by just the sheer number of posts on this particular thread in the QB. For me, it represents the volume of vitriol we see and share across our political divide, which is nothing but divisive and useless for legislation or dialogue. This I do hate. A personal aside: My maternal grandfather, John, was a lifelong Democrat... until after my grandmother passed, they were married 53 years. He remarried, and I ended up with a wonderful "spare/third" grandmother, Polly. She was definitely the matriarch of her clan before marrying my "Pop". Pop converted to R as a voter, married to Polly... and the rest of us always wondered about that. I guess me more than the rest. My point is this- I feel 100% sure that the main thing we have wrong with our US of A is our inability to recognize one another to be American first, then either red or blue. Vilifying and calling one another names does nothing. In fact, it has become big business... and we are the product, you and me both. Those that profit on this modern day hate are the ones to be vilified and shunned. As for me, I feel and know that I'll not ever learn if I don't listen to others with whom I may disagree. So, to make a nutshell, just hang with me. This I say with multiple meanings. Patrick... one thing about your elocutions is that you wrap them strangely, with multiple flavorful tangents. I like to take time and follow out your reasonings, but dang I wish I had retirement time to do so!  O2- let's not aggravate one another more than we should. I was raised to be a gentleman, although I guess I'm more redneck... whoops. Going waaaay back- IIRC the original poster for this whole ginormous thread was Sifo. Not heard from him here in forever. I used to love hanging with him, riding with him and his wife on occasion over in NC. Tom had a rapier wit, gobs of fun. He and I knew we were "Wiley and Bugs" politically, but we knew not to clock in for that particular job. Let's agree to disagree... but ALSO, to find ways to come to agreement on the things that we needs must have to keep our democracy. Again, pardon my flare there. I'll not flame unless I'm fanned. In the "has no shame" category, I agree Trump ( a life long D before he ran for Prez ) is just as reprehensible as the Typical D Pol. You must recall multiple funeral speeches where several attending D politicians basically said "Senator Foghorn was a great American and George Bush is a Satanic monster who wants to drink your blood and kick puppies, because he supports enslaving women/blacks/kittens with his policy on the thing I Want!" The specifics of the Worst Scum Ever's crimes against humanity changes with the week, ( whatever thing they wanted ) and even who was Worse than Hitler, GWB, Mitch, the guy they were running against. But a dozen D pols were certain to use the stage at their peer's funeral barely mentioning any accomplishment of Sen Leghorn, except in the obligatory first line, and spewing outrageous accusations against their Enemies. Trump, now, he didn't take slights from anyone without hitting back. "Class" is not a word that applies to him or the dozens of Elite that didn't want him in their private club. ( and often were angry they got kicked out of Trump's actual private club ) Especially the R politicians that were too smart to create bad press for themselves by being A-holes at funerals. The boiling acid from them about Donald was unmatched. So Donald slamming an "American war hero" ( for being tortured by the N. Vietnam government ) is low class crud. Yep, totally agree. Me, personally, would not have pointed out his fame was from losing the battle against anti aircraft missiles and nothing to do with martial prowess. I'm not saying I have more class than Trump. I'd jump all over McCain's voting record, in support of the opposition Party, the reason he's called a Rino. I might even attempt to exploit his mythology by pointing out his capture, treatment, and stoicism in prison was directly the fault of the insane policies of LBJ, and wonder out loud how McCain could agree with the same crowd that openly call him a baby killing monster, after escalating the war, and actually forbidding McCain from bombing SAM sites. You made a lot of assumptions about him based on his shirt, which I'm sure he wore to show how passionate he is about his frustration with Biden. I'm wondering how you felt when the F**K TRUMP rants where happening throughout the entire left side of the spectrum, including the decapitated head, the simulate assassination , and the call for bombing of the POTUS. I had to sit through all that and it pissed me off, even though I didn't vote for him the first go round, but I didn't take it personally. I do like to point out how much of the outrage was based on fabricated or distorted crap. As for Biden, it is literally one self created hot mess after another and not fabricated dossiers. Facts are facts, and I don't mean Farcebook facts, and so I always try to present and acknowledge things that are proven to be true, whether I like them or not. For example, the powers that be are again trying to blame guns for all the violence happening right now in their cities. I have news for them, those guns have probably always been there but the lack of punishment for committing crimes hasn't. I don't consider myself old, but I do have enough years under my belt to know that it's much easier being humble and honest rather than being stubborn and deceitful, and I'm NOT implying that you are. That guy's shirt was not a personal attack on you, and who knows, maybe he might surprise you if there ever was a chance for you to sit down and actually have a conversation with him. | ||

My father was a spy thriller novel fan. Me too, I loved Tom Clancy and Brown, and grew up on James Bond & Quiller &.... The CIA for decades has actively promoted 2 myths that utterly contradict each other. The CIA is hyper competent and can read everything anyone says and super secret agents can assassinate, overthrow governments, and rewrite history. The CIA is a bunch of incompetent boobs that are more likely to give secrets to the KGB than notice a nuke in their lobby. Every indication from this century shows the truth is worse than both myths. They spy on you, despite their own charter directive to spy on foreign threats. Frankly because it's easier to spy on us. ( and correctly, point out They just get your files from the NSA ) They "leak" political lies to change regimes and thwart leaders they disagree with. If they did it to Russia we'd be happy, But they do it to us, which is treason. No one thinks there's much chance that career bureaucrats have any plans to stop Iran from Nuking Israel. Oh, Iran's Mullahs and Generals blame the CIA for agitating the Iranian Subjects, instead of the possibility that stealing the taxes and oil money to make war on their neighbors and rationing food and energy might upset the ones not already murdered.
