I was forced to relive the worst day of my life yesterday morning. I got a statement from my insurance company saying that the claim the hospital put in for attempting to save my wife's life was denied because she wasn't covered at the time!

I had to call the insurance company to find out WHY. They said according to my employer, her coverage ended the day before she died! That didn't make any sense; why would they terminate her coverage before she died so that her resuscitation efforts wouldn't be covered?

The woman I spoke to was very helpful and understanding because I was just about falling apart on the phone. Like I said, I had to relive that awful day all over again. She reached out to my employer's benefits department and got a representative on the call with us.

We explained the situation and I said that a copy of her death certificate was on file with them so they could see what day she passed away. The benefits person saw the mistake but wasn't authorized to do anything about it so I had to wait again while she got a manager on the line.

A manager finally did get on the line and quickly realized the mistake and corrected it but that was forty five minutes I did NOT need yesterday. Likely some minimum wage, offshore nimrod mistyped the information sent to the insurer which resulted in this whole mess.

God, we have the WORST health care system in the entire developed, western world here!! At least in typing this up my rage is overshadowing my grief.

More insurance company fun: I recently had the title and registration for my wife's car transferred to my name, and informed our insurance carrier. Yesterday I got a bill from them addressed to HER for both cars. WTF? Those idiots put both cars under HER name instead of mine. What IS it with insurance companies??? So I had to call them to get that straightened out too. All while the technician was here to remove the stairlift I had installed for her since I don't need it and it partially blocked the stairwell to the basement. Yesterday was NOT a good day.

DAMMIT man. Red tape can burn a soul, that's for sure.

When my father died, my maternal grandfather, Pop, and I had to drive to Tampa to deal with his business. I was 20. In my confusion and grief, I had instructed the county to mail the death certificates to Nashville, just before we drove to Tampa. When we got there, we couldn't do a damn thing. I had to take over a funeral home's office to rectify the situation. As time slowly passed by... I started noticing things on the desk. One was a 8"x11" glossy print, with the regional sales leaders happy faces writ large. It looked like a page out of my senior class book, what with all the small pictures and their superlatives.

That changed the way I look at funeral homes to this day, my brother. Look up, forward, but not away.

Here we go again. A bill from her Gastro doctor for services rendered on June 23 and 25. WTF?? There was no GI doctor in the ER on the 23rd, and on the 25th she was beyond needing the care of a GI specialist. WTF??

I still get mail addressed, after 2 years, to my wife.
Hang in there brother.
Good luck with the doctors and insurance drones.

Medical bull$hite plagues both the living and the dead, my friend. Hate to hear this at any rate.

I sold a car yesterday... just got the back yard mowed despite pea soup humidity. Jaime, every now and then I'll try to share good stuff with you. Keep on keepin' on, brother.

"I still get mail addressed, after 2 years, to my wife." Just caught that.

So... my mother remarried after my father died. (Mommy and Sakie, my dad, were going to remarry.) When my mother died, years later, my stepdad didn't change their cell phone message... for months, maybe years, I dunno. It was hammer-brutal the first few times... I had to get used to it.

Again, we here in the BW look after our own. Jaime, if at all possible, you should go hang out with that nutter and the rest of the loons. Trust me, I'd go if I could.
Mark and his family are a class act, and it is nothing but a very large good time.

Already have plans for those dates. Heading up into New England with my club for the long weekend. I wasn't going to go at first but I decided I needed the change of scenery.

I've skipped these club outings over the past several years because my wife just wasn't up to riding anymore. There will no doubt be some guilt in going now... we'll see. Appropriately, it looks like rain every day.

Hey, Jaime. You will certainly be carrying things, going in... not sure about guilt? Maybe so. Let it be so, and be sure to ride safe, have a good time, which you so deserve. Are you riding in solo? I'm throwing back in my memory to me and Vern leaving Knoxville for HC2010. One of the epic journeys of my life.

And, yes, it will rain. I find that once I do a mental checklist, from the tires up and my rain gear also, I enjoy riding in the rain.

Be safe, my friend. The road will rise up, wind also at your back. ; )

By "riding solo" if you mean will I have a passenger? No, not a physical one anyway. I'm meeting up with my friends and we're riding up together.

Something I learned here on BadWeb: My floorboards will be down for my wife.

I picked it up brand new on July 3, 1999. I've had it for 22 (mostly) trouble-free years. 225,000 miles and still going strong. I've been as far south as Key West and as far north as Labrador. Finally made it out to California in 2011. The trip got cut short when my wife took a tumble off the bike when we got to the Aerostich factory in Duluth (her foot got caught as she was trying to dismount and she fell). She ended up snapping her wrist and had to be taken to the hospital to get it fixed.

Once she was discharged I put her on a plane back home. I was going to head straight back but she insisted I enjoy the rest of my time off so I made it out to my friend's house in California but instead of heading south and across the southern states I just took Interstate 80 straight back. We never took another long trip like that again; just weekend rides.

Jaime. My late father, who passed when I was 20 at the age I am now, was a printing press mechanic, in Nashville and Tampa. Also a Korean War veteran. THANK you for sharing that.

The local paper, obviously, is a class act. I am a published author, and, just, wow.

Very nice, very nice. I know that must've been hard to come home to, but, hey. That was and is very cool.

Been thinking about you, Jaime, often... how are things? Been a week, my friend. I'm sure for you, not a lot of good stuff... on my side, been a different squirrel bazooka randomly, and daily.

Hope to hear from you soon. IIRC I had gotten your USPS address, but that was a while ago. Of course, me remembering 10 minutes ago is sketchy lately... PM me sometime.

Hmmm... let me clarify an above post. You wrote that obit, and the one sentence that starts it is simply... nice. One thing I'll probably never be, which is concise.

None of this thread is about me. It is about loss, and great loss. Over time, I may say wrong things... do tell if anything I say does not help you. Know that will never be an intention of mine, and anything I can do to bring good mojo, I'll do level best. Hope this Sunday is going well for you, man.

The trip went well. Rode in the rain for a bit on Thursday. Friday was overcast but dry and Gomo took us on some awesome roads. He had additional plans for the return trip on Saturday but anxiety over Henri made us all decide to just head straight home. Turns out Henri wasn't going to be a factor until later Sunday and (for Long Island at least) it wasn't much of an issue after all.

For the most part I enjoyed myself. Naturally Denise's passing did come up multiple times but I was able to hold it together for the most part. Yesterday I cleaned out her car and drove it for the first time this year. It still runs well so I'll see if my niece wants it when she moves back to New York in October. Looking forward to having her around again.

Good to hear all this. Just got done having a grilled chicken wing and mac/cheese snack. Cleaning and relocating new bow front fish tank.

SO glad you're doing, sounding OK here now. Work the average. The burden may never get lighter, maybe just familiar and easier to shoulder, with time.

Before you ever sell that flying Brick, plan a trip down here to see Vern and me, I'll fix a sous-vide dinner of some sort, and a decent bed. Oh, and Laird, Tammy!! Their Ural sidehack is a hoot, Laird flies the chair at will... ! ; ) And, it's high time you made it down to TWoS. Frogs will show the way.

2021 is definitely going to be remembered as my "Year of Tears." Besides my wife, I lost two other friends this year, both FAR too young (both had just turned 50). One died the same day as my wife. She had some serious non-COVID related health issues of her own. She was suffering from blood clots serious enough that they had to amputate her leg back in October to save her life. She died of a heart attack the same day as my wife; I found out about it after I got home.

The other one just died completely out of the blue. It was the day of the Kentucky Derby. I remember because she used to design these fancy hats for her friends and clients to wear. I signed into her Facebook page to see what she had created this year only to find out.

And now over the weekend one of our offshore workers, one of the FEW I considered as good as (if not better than) some of my domestic co-workers, died from complications due to COVID-19. The virus was out of his system, but it had done severe damage to his circulatory system and he died over the weekend due to kidney failure. He was also young and leaves behind his wife and two very young children.

As I stated earlier: EVERY year since 2018 has just been worse and worse. I truly fear for what 2022 might have in store.

DAMN it man. Again, take care of yourself, #1, your chin. Watch the angle of that thing.

And, me too. I do have a hard time with that same problem, for different reasons. My burdens are certainly not the same, not be a stretch, but I am carrying a load too. So, KNOW that you are not alone in fighting depression. My dear sister, in her retirement, living alone with cats. She's had to make BIG adjustments. She's lived a life profession caring for others, daily, now, only herself and two cats. I worry about her, man.

Refer, retreat here when you can. I'll help. I'll also ask for it myself, from time to time.
