And democrats rebelled against the Union over states rights when a republican took office. But now which party is the party of states rights? Both parties have changed quite a bit, especially in the last 50yrs or so. I wasn't taught that the republican party is full of racist by a bunch of liberal democrat propaganda. I was taught that by racists. I grew up white in Mississippi. Every overtly racist white person I've ever known was republican. I know because they were as proud of being one as they were of being the other. Where I grew up "democrat" was code for black; "Don't go into that part of town, it's full of democrats." It always confuse me as a kid that all the guys waving confederate flags were also die-hard supports of "The party of Lincoln"  So you can talk about the history of both parties all you want. But while I don't assume all republicans are racist, I feel it safe to assume most modern KKK and white supremacists are republican, libertarian, or something other than democrat or progressive. And lest you think I'm some kind of raging liberal; I've voted for both republican and democrat presidents/candidates. I almost always vote a split ticket and will try to vote for the most qualified moderate candidate regardless of party. Recently the far sides of both parties have gone insane. | ||
