please. No Politics.

I'll start with myself. Countless things have changed, and certainly, as many have noticed... self included. This OP goes to all here on BW, with hopes and intentions that we all gain a better understanding of it all.

After being shat out of my old life by the circumstances, things certainly got weird. For me. I'll do my level best, here, to contribute.

Not much has changed. I refuse to let it. I even went to CA twice last year. Without going into politics, I'll say those were adventures...

I've lost a "friend" or two, but I'm okay with that. Some who have been vaccinated don't want me around because I have not, again, I'm okay with that.

I lived a mostly solitary life before covid, and I'll continue to do so.

I found out that I COULD retire... until I started getting calls by companies and people with whom I'd worked in the past so barely a week later, I un-retired to be a consultant in materials science and applications. Doing some FUN things only when I want to.

Sunny and I are going full speed ahead on the Phoenix house. Time to GTFO of California.

I've also filed a DBA as Loose Canon. (note a single "n") If you have to ask, you won't get it.

Very little changed for me. I was already working from home 100% of the time. I'm a homebody by nature so I just don't go out much any more.

I do miss riding though. I don't take either bike much farther than the Walmart or the oncologist office for chemo treatments these days. My son and I used to have 3 or 4 rides a year of 300 - 400 miles, mostly around the state. I miss that a lot.

Looking forward to this new month. Last year taught me the power of perseverance. This year's lessons are underway. Hoping to raise the bell curve, level best.

If one has been changed, then, who's looking at you? Kid?

Time for z. Big month ahead.

Wore a mask at Costco because they gave me one when I walked in the door and that way I would have one in case I needed it somewhere else.
I didn't, but I do have plenty of masks.

Bump, I guess. By the way, Tennessee just fired their own top vaccine official.

I just counted at least fifteen active Quick Board threads that have gone completely to politics. Oh well. Jokes and memes, heck, anything.

Well, if the thread is titled something like "politician's name" or "conspiracy theory rebuttal" then I'd expect fewer cookie recipes there.

We didn't just have a year and a half of Pooh's Breath ( the politically forbidden name for the Wuhan Flu ) we've had a presidential campaign continuously since 2006. Where the full on Campaign Season went from months to 2+ years, to in 2009 officially continuous non stop with illegal fund raising practically an unofficial Cabinet department.

So it's hard to separate the horrible political from the personal impact of Covid-19.

Panic Porn. Quarantine Theater. Businesses shut down by Whims ( the Governor changes his mind on what a meal is so no customers for you! No fries! Chips! )

No big camping event for 2 Years, so far, that I've been attending so long that the babies I changed diapers on while Mom and Dad were shopping, are now getting laid and competing against me in tournaments. Maybe I'll get to play in 2022.

And several of those I have fought and partied with are gone this last 1 & 1/2+ years. Coronavirus victims and cancer and Cardio-pulmonary disease.

So I'm still crippled up, but still mobile. Mostly.

The "can we sail a canoe with a skateboarding kite?" question prompted a boat building experiment with pontoons/amas constructed and first sail a qualified success. Half the length of Canandaigua Lake, mechanical issues, and as predicted, the cheap Chinese Outboard motor seized in 18 feet.

Discovered Cheap Chinese Outboard motor has cast in oil level and fill ports. Not drilled or tapped or anything allowing you to actually put oil in, mind you! But yep. That's where you would if you want it to run more than 18 feet.

That's not a joke.

But other stuff, ( including that ) has made me laugh despite the Perpetual Political Porn Panicdemic... I ran out of P words.

Looks like Black Widow might be my next Theater Experience. Birds Of Prey was the previous last. There's definitely a metaphor there.

May your Gods bless and keep you all.

And despite my excuse above for political saturation fatigue, I basically agree.

There's more to life than the 24/7 News Cycle. ( which if you think about it, isn't that bad since nearly half that time is commercials, far better than most News )

The new Tesla goes to Plaid!

I wonder if Mel Brooks gets a discount?

Hey... for what it's worth, a certain Tennessee State Senator came to my father's funeral. I was 20. Those flavors of Lifesavers, Now-or-Laters, et cetera have all gone out of favor as of late.

But I digress. I miss Ned.

Patrick, let's not be obtuse. The Tennessee Republican "leadership" has not only blocked the "mature minor" law, enacted in the year 1987, but they've also attempted to dismantle ALL vaccination programs for minors. In the Volunteer State.

Look here now. You may believe what you want, but Fking with ESTABLISHED SCIENCE that SAVES LIVES is just flat dumb. Egregiously wrong, and, possibly lethal.

Politics Be Damned. If you want to be a Luddite, you go yourself, don't take me with you.

Well, it sure seems TN is full of bad people. Is red neck idiot racist?

Makes sense, one of my ex's moved there. Doubt she voted R. But it's possible.

If you ran into her, I'd apologize, but I swear to Loki she was crazy before I asked her to marry me!

Mature minor law? Is that to free kids from bad families or permission to have sex with them? I'm in favor of the first, not the second.

Anti-vaxxers? Loons. Like our troll says, "something stupid showing utter ignorance of science, then horribly bad advice a Babylonian would know better than to admit to saying!"

I know from local politics that the "relative getting a high pay do nothing job, yet still stealing so much he gets arrested" could be either Party.

The first couple of months were a bummer with closures and mandatory masking but we live in ARIZONA! We mostly reopened summer 2020 and lack of beergarden access only allowed us to hike our 200 miles of mountain trails even more. Prescott is 99.9% open now. Life is mostly unchanged except when we turn on the TV and see the calamity that the Wuhan China Virus has foisted on the rest of America.

I had written a long post that in part apologized for bringing political crud into the thread, that got dumped when the site went down.

So, Sorry I went political on a thread asking how we have weathered the First 21st century Biowar.

If you want to be a Luddite, you go yourself, don't take me with you. Not sure if that's anger at Anti-vaxxers ( utterly justified ) or your State Legislature ( If they're like mine...utterly justified ) or both.

I've spent a lot of time over the last year and a half running errands for people more at risk. That's a bit different in the motivation, but not the action, than usual.

While I miss the big parties/meetings/competitions, these last 2 years, I've also been involved in making those parties run smoothly, and it can be a nightmare to keep thousands of people healthy when all you can do is offer water, bandages, condoms and advice. I've long understood you can't make Adults not behave like children.

But restaurants are reopening, and while many have failed, many were going to fail anyway, I read clickbait back in 2019 on "which 6 restaurant chains will fail in 2020" long before Pooh's Breath was known about. It might be a different mix of failures. But I'll miss some, like the local "Macaroni Grill", and wonder how the heck "Juicy Seafood" is still open. The first worked hard to bring takeout orders to people waiting in cars outside. The other? Never been there, never seen a car parked out front. ( the name frightened me! )

And at my age the problem that more of my high school class passes every year, has nothing to do with the Corona.

Bless you all.

Hey all. I've a tendency to get a bit worked up- I'd guess most of you have noticed. My apologies. As of late I've figured out a reason for this. I'm hoping to get back to me, and more of me than I've been lately. And to stay that way.

We live in strange times. My great, beloved state of Tennessee is on a bad uptick for COVID-19 cases with this new variant... and I'm heading to Nashville to see King Crimson on Wednesday. Yes, and YES, I'm looking forward to the show. At the same time, I'm worried about this fact, that we've not suppressed the virus. I've also got tickets for a show late next month, just before I'm married. To celebrate.

Dang I'm tired of this, this pandemic. I know that I'm no different than anyone here in that regard. Know however, that I appreciate dang near everyone here, and that friends will disagree. Let's remain friends and brothers/sisters, and riders, most of all.

Congratulation & condolences! ( human beings are variable. Marriage is too. ) ; )

If you're vaccinated then the concert is mostly a hazard to your parked car, feet & back, & eardrums. ( actually the tiny hairs in the inner ear )

I suggest foam ear plugs, or electronic shooting plugs. they really cut down the ringing after the show. Pros use them.

Government Mule is coming local soon. Haven't got my ticket yet. I saw King Crimson last century. Good show, solid band.

I'm worried about this fact, that we've not suppressed the virus.

Why did you expect that to ever happen? Diseases are real, and political promises are not.

This stuff takes time, the 1918 "Spanish Flu" ( which iirc was from China too, like half the plagues on the planet.... Ever ) is considered gone, because everyone who was going to die, died. The survivors had immunity. The mutations faded into the background of sicknesses, and a century later we don't have any clean DNA samples to do research on, just partials and traces. So it's gone, but we didn't Suppress anything.

I pointed out over a year ago, that by trying to slow the big surge in cases to keep the Hospitals from overflowing like they did in places like China and Italy, we also were delaying the time Covid-19 would be "over". And "Over" isn't a realistic absolute. Faded down to dull noise is the best you can ever ask for, and we're either there or getting there.

Unfortunately Sensational Fear Sells Soap. We rightly distrust politicians, and it's entirely possible that Doom lurks around the corner. But none of that is a change from the last million years.

The "Spanish Flu" reportedly originated in Kansas. Some say from troops at one of our big forts there burning a bunch of swine feces. It went to Europe with our troops. It was just medically identified in Spain first. Or something like that.

Wait 'til the media starts freaking people out about the climate crisis, a 100% complete and utter fraud. CNN is gearing up for it. Expect the rest of the damn Commie/globalist media to follow suit.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-pa ndemic-h1n1.html

The "Spanish Flu" reportedly originated in Kansas.

I'm going to say that's propaganda. The 1918 flu was from birds, not swine.

There is some debate on China as an origin, but from the time of Rome and the Silk Road, the plagues of the world were probably from China. Not all, but if you bet on it, you'll win over time.

( If you are talking the Americas, it's the Europeans, until the 20th century )

And I'll point out that Spain was neutral in WW1, and American Troops were not there.

But the Spanish did a LOT of trading with China in what was then the Warlord era, silk & spices for guns. ( Huge Spanish gun industry supplying everyone from the turn of the century to the Spanish Civil War. )

Nothing, really. Some things are more expensive.

I kinda miss the days of bombing down the highway without worry or traffic.

As far as the actual virus it hasn't affected me or anyone I know in any substantial way.

My favorite all you can eat Chinese restaurant was shut down for a while. That was tough.

People keep harping on about having to listen to what you're told or you're literally killing people. That's a bit much.
