I have mixed feelings about that. On one hand I would be thrilled to see our service personnel no longer hung out as bait over a patch of dirt with little to offer in the way of US interest other than a place to land and refuel airplanes. On the other hand given China's recent behavior, a few places to land and refuel airplanes might not be a bad thing to have in the area. | ||

I too would far prefer an American detention facility to a Mexican Refugee camp, especially since with Biden* apparently screwing the Deal that Trump made with the Mexican President to fund the refugee camps and cooperate to control the completely understandable flow of refugees from the northern S. America failed or failing Countries. ( the difference between, this sucks, and Death Squads is How Left the current Ruler/Government is, and some of these places painfully bounce back and forth across that line. Often screwed by American Politics, as when in 2009 Barry screwed with Honduras for legally firing their President, ( one wonders how Honduras would have responded if Trump had been fired?  ) | ||

It apparently is legal and common to contract with non governmental institutions to perform incarceration services. Why not set up treaties with the violators country of origin to incarcerate them there? We pay the host country for the service. I would bet the cost to house an inmate in for example El Salvador, is significantly less than McAllen TX. Immigration court hearings could be held on official US soil, at "ancillary" US embassies. The US is technically not extraditing anyone. All suspects, unlawful immigrants, and asylum seekers get full due process in US courts. If they chose to drop their claim, or plea no contest, they are free to be released from the host facility. The same could be said if they chose to post a bond for bail, or are ordered by judge to be released on recognizance. If found not guilty , or asylum is granted they are cheerfully returned on the nearly empty airplanes coming back to the US from their origin country. I see it as a win/win. The country of origin has a new industry to provide jobs, and a source of foreign investment from the US.,(and they get paid provided the individual is held in safety, and accounted for). This would minimize the overflow and overcrowding at US jails. | ||

I have to ask... Why? Not that telling the truth about war crimes of the Ottoman Empire is a bad thing, per se. But Just Joe's Masters must have a reason to break out this diplomatic insult, as the Sultan of Turkey will absolutely take it as insulting to be reminded that his spiritual ancestors were less than perfection. Relations have soured with Turkey ever since the current King ( I think he still uses the title President, but that's just misinformation at this point ) took power, and has been purging his lands of opposition to his rule. And getting very cozy in a cruddy way with the Russian Czar, which is complicated by the ongoing massacres/uncivil war/Jihad in Syria. The Only things certain about the Turkish King is he hates the Kurds, and will murder everyone to stay in power. ( to be fair, all the folk surrounding the Kurds have a feud with them going back thousands of years, long before the Prophet & his death & the schisms in the faith ) So, WHO PROFITS from this statement? Xi? Putin? Soros? |
