What's the deal with mass shootings ramping up with Democrats in office? There's gotta be something to that... ...and I got my scope mount in to finish my AR.  It sure is niice. I've been waiting twenty four years to have a decent AR scope mount. It feels good to finally get one. The rifle is as perfect a gun as I've ever assembled. | ||

Joe: That's interesting and scandalous. The Court's opinion is looking for an explicitly defined right to carry in public. But our Constitution only addresses what the govt CANNOT abridge or infringe upon, and one of those is "the right of the people to keep (own) and bear (carry) arms." Such "judges" need to be impeached. They are charlatans. Let's hope the Supreme Court sets them straight. | ||

What I discovered last weekend: Mounting the bayonet to a Soviet M91/30 battle rifle shifts point of impact by roughly 8 MOA down and 8 MOA left. "MOA" is minutes of angle. At 100 yds 8 MOA is roughly 8". This may someday be important to know. It did surprise me, except for one thing. Had I not adjusted the front sight to bring the rifle on target absent the bayonet, it would have been perfectly sighted for shooting with the bayonet. Interesting fact: The bayonet also doubles as a screw driver for rifle maintenance. Russians are ingenious about stuff like that. Over the years of becoming familiar with a smattering of Russian/Com-block firearms, I’ve really come to appreciate their genius for practical efficient design. Rifle sling attachment hardware? Nyet. Just cut slots in the buttstock and foregrip. Expensive brass cartridge cases? Nyet. Inexpensive ductile steel with a copper-washed finish. Their more modern cartridges–the 7.62x54R is 130 years old–use a lacquer coating over the steel cases. The larger caliber, more powerful 7.62x39 FMJ AK ammo costs about 2/3rds of what NATO 5.56x45 FMJ AR15/M16/M4 ammo sells for on the normal retail market. Fancy lever actuated safety? Nyet. Just pull the bolt striker back and rotate to prevent it from actuating. (Message edited by Blake on March 28, 2021) | ||

I just watched a Smithsonian channel show on the AC-130. A pilot was explaining the guns and he called the 25mm gatling gun the "Crowd Pleaser". I'm not sure his customers would say that. | ||

That's the AC-130 gun ship. The regular AC-130 is just a very successful transport aircraft. I like the cannons, personally. Guns are boring. | ||

That, the cargo version, is C-130. The A prefix stands for Attack. ( also used for light bombers ) Although AC-130s are not know for dropping bombs, unlike C-130s who occasionally drop huge ones, that they excel in close air support is obvious. From trench strafers in WW1 to Ju-87 Stukas on the Russian Front, guns from above are more effective than bombs on tanks and troops. The Highway of Death running from Kuwait to Iraq is an exception, but only after the long lines were stopped. The famous Stuka went from dive bombing to cannons because one bomb per sortie to kill tanks was too slow. Fly out, drop bomb, ( and usually miss ) fly back, rearm, repeat. With twin cannon, the numbers on possible kills per sortie were much better. And the AC-130 is the direct descendant of the Attack version of the DC-3. ( Douglas Commercial ) The progression from .30 cal Miniguns to 105mm howitzer, and 40mm rapid fire cannons, is both to keep beyond small arms return fire, and enable tank busting. Superbly. | ||

Nice build, btw. While my Gamer side loves the Masterkey, my practical side doesn't want to carry the awkward heaviness. A 40mm grenade launcher, sure, but I can't find ammo for that at Gander Mountain, & the force multiplication isn't available to me as a civilian. Also, the Gaming world FPS carrying capacity is, unfortunately, unrealistic. Back in HALO days, you had a pair of weapons like 2 gun competition, albeit they might be sniper & automatic rifle or rocket launcher and alien plasma rifle, etc. I used to do playthroughs with only human and alien pistols. Fairly "realistic" as real life carry In combat of long arm and pistol is practical . In Borderlands, you have a quartet of weapons, ridiculous in real life. ( 3 gun competition guys haul wheeled luggage. Absurd impractical. ) And a "bag of holding" backpack with up to dozens of guns you can swap out to " on deck". Very unrealistic. But so is throwing turtle shells at other drivers. Who cares? It's fun. Just don't confuse games with reality. | ||

You're correct. I should've caught that.
That is also correct. There was a time that I was cool with carrying a monstrously heavy rifle with intentions of delivering sustained, accurate, long range fire. Nowadays I'm a bit more practical. | ||

Speaking of tools, I was just discussing with a coworker yesterday about how those people who solely use guns to "harvest" game tend to be the worst in maintaining them. They treat them as any other tool in the shed. Use it, then neglect it until next time. | ||

Sighted in my 10/22 with the new barrel (suppressed) and tried out the 590A1 with buck and slugs with this fancy stock.
