Steve Anderson (yes, THAT Steve Anderson) Tweeted an interesting article this week about the vaccination process. Apparently one dose of the vaccine is ~90% effective while the second dose gets you up to 98% (or whatever they’ve claimed the full effectiveness is). Based on this, the best way to distribute the vaccine would be to give everyone a single dose before you start giving the second dose. This would save a lot of lives over the next few months compared to the planned vaccination scheme- far better to have everyone 90% inoculated than half the country 98% inoculated. The author of the article suggested this is unlikely to happen due to the bureaucracy controlling the process. | ||

Ratbuell, I'm not sure where our disagreement actually is, but we do seem to have one. ( not picking a fight but puzzling over our differences ) Dictatorial scum Governors exploiting fear. Check. ( The minimum blame... ) As a side issue, I'm watching for a massive genocidal wave in Africa, and South American Belt & Road debt sucker countries. One of Xi's greatest challenges is all those horny young men who can't get laid in their prison country because of the "one child policy" that created the sex ratio crisis there. And the deliberate homophobia and persecution of gays doesn't allow the traditional prisoner's excuse for sex. ( I cynically opine guys will have sex with anything with a hole if there's few options ) So having fresh real estate recently vacated by "who cares about that? They're not my people", has to be an attractive option. If you're a psychopath who orders people murdered when they joke about you, which perfectly describes God King Xi. Time will tell. Then. Heck, those 2 weeks might have worked! This Winter? Things look grim. Hospitals are now dictated to by Governors with zero science or medical education. The local hospital/health behemoth ( And a darned good one ) is hurting because they've been shut down so much. Nurses were laid off or reassigned when normal medical care was shut down by the ( See Also Cloward-Piven & Obamacare assault on health care ) Other than the vague perspective numbers might give, they're so unreliable, both in spin and protocols, that argument is silly. You say One Percent is nothing? Others argue One Percent is devastating. I'm somewhere in the middle. ( partly because I don't buy the "one percent" mantra ) And I know the devastation is very real to my deceased friends family's. Statistics ignore the individual. The map is not the territory. People die, it's a fact. And when someone dies, the family tends to grieve. If that grieving family is told that their loved one died of Covid, they adopt an attitude towards Covid and everything that goes on around it. If they believe it, it doesn't matter if it's a lie. If they were told the loved one died of something else, they would be mad at that. My dad died as I held him on Christmas eve 17 years ago. It's just as painful this morning as it was then. He was killed by a flu shot. Nothing will ever convince me otherwise, no matter what they or you or anybody else will ever tell me. I was there, I know the sequence of events. I wonder what the real statistics are, but we will never know. My parents drank the fu(king kool-aid, and my mother still gets those damned shots every year, and every OTHER year, she gets sick as hell from it. I never get them, never have and never will. I get sick maybe once every 5 years or so. Flu shots kill people. I know it for a fact. See how that works? | ||

My problem is, I believe in a proportional response. A 1% threat? Deserves a 1% response. A 0.031% threat deserves a 0.031% response...not a 100%, autocratic, dictatorial, lockdown response. As stated above - people die. In America, nearly 3 MILLION PEOPLE every year. Again - on the big end, estimates say we have lost 300,000 Americans to COVID (take those numbers' reality as you will, given the padding and lying that's running rampant). That would be 300,000, compared to 3,000,000. For every ONE death due to COVID, there are NINE OTHER DEATHS due to...life. Cancer. Car crashes. Cigarettes. Alligator attacks. Alcoholism. Plain ol' old age. Whatever. But for those 1/10 of deaths, we've locked down our whole goddamned nation - where in the past, for those other nine people, we've locked down...absolutely...NOTHING. That...is STUPID. Not that we locked down nothing for the others, but that we've locked down everything now, for, effectively, numerically, statistically....nothing. This needs to end. Now. People will die - it is a part of life, and it happens. COVID is a freakin' BLIP on the radar total for death. But you wouldn't know that from today's press...or rulers...or "health officials"... Does it kill people? Yes. But it kills far fewer people than life in general does, and we need to quit this shit right now. It's time We The People stand the fvck up and remind our elected officials who runs this joint, and we get back to our freedoms, and our lives. If you WANT to stay home and hide, go for it. You're welcome to do that, if it's what suits you and your situation. But don't force me to do the same. That is not your right. YOU cannot take away MY choice. You have a right to live your life as you see fit - out and about, in your basement living off GrubHub, whatever. It's YOUR choice. *I* have the SAME RIGHT TO CHOOSE. California's problems would be easily solved by running some of the Navy fleet around the Cali coast. A hospital ship to LA, and a carrier strike on Sacramento? Maybe I'm an idiot - and there are those who would confirm that. But: All these stories about a 'new strain that's mutated and discovered in xxx'. Isn't conceivable (and likely) that these 'new' strains aren't originating in one place and then being carried and instead, perhaps, mutated in identical ways in multiple locations? I mean if the virus is this widespread and if the environmental conditions are identical and viruses doing what they do, couldn't it have the same response? And if so, what good would shutting down travel from here or there do? But where's the story/hyperbole in that? | ||

Story is, "new strain in England". Soon after, Brit press reports it comes from South Africa. You Do, obviously, get mutations in different PEOPLE in different locations, and they are all going to be different. The "first" mutation is apparently from Wuhan China, where a bat-borne virus crossed over to a human. If that is from eating bat, or deliberate manipulation in the biological warfare lab? ( Occam's razor ) I don't know. There have been, other mutations in different people, but that's normal and one reason we still have humans on the planet. The Flu of 1918 faded out, both because of "herd immunity" aka everyone who was going to die, did, and because it mutated to be less deadly. That's the standard pattern. SARS, MARS, Ebola, the Cold, the pattern is the same. A bug mutates to be nasty, spreads, changes as it goes. Sometimes it gets "worse" for the victims, which can also mean "worse" for the virus. That's why Ebola was a scary disease, but considered "poorly adapted" because it killed the village before it could spread far. The whole "bleeding from the eyes" thing also encouraged anti-social distancing. You see some guy moaning, staggering down the road from the next village, and he's bleeding from multiple places people don't normally? I'd run away. ( and I'm the kind of nut who goes into burning buildings ) The current Ebola mess in Africa is actually scarier to me, since it keeps going. Bet you haven't read much about that lately. From June. Blake - I have no idea what Tpehak is talking about, and I have no idea why they're still on this forum. They have the mentality of a three year old - I thought we were better than that. As for COVID...I was just at the MVA (Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration, our version of what every other damn state calls the DMV). COVID is frowned upon, they screen you with questions and a laser thermometer before you can go in the building...but apparently pneumonia is just fine because we were all standing outside for over an hour before they filtered us through the door one at a time. In 29 degree windy weather. Needless to say, my forehead scan showed cadaver-level body heat...but hey! No COVID fever!!  | ||

We disagree, apparently on the degree that 99.4% or 94% or any other suspect and probably wrong number should affect your reaction to the plague itself. To use maximum hyperbole sarcasm.... I ask you to please wear a mask to slow the spread of the disease as you burn the politicians at the stake. Also, it will reduce the probability of you getting something worse than Covid-19, like AIDS, from the blood spatter that is inevitable as the tyrants are dragged to the pyre. All those thrown rocks and bricks, you need to be careful. End Sarcastic but heartfelt rant. Keep in mind I've spent literally decades being a lifeguard/safety officer/first responder/first aid... guy doing activities that are considered by many insanely dangerous. Trauma courses with the guys who are EMTs at Watkins Glen races, High altitude aid training from the USAF... A buddy had a video of me telling someone that Bat suits in skydiving is far too dangerous for me, then doing a backflip out of a plane at 12,000 feet. So understand, I will advise caution...
