Well; according to the article, it's competitively priced and has comparable features, so it might just work. I've noticed that even among hard core Harley Riders, there's a bit of interest and cautious acceptance.

4 or 5 inches taller than my inseam, I'm sure.

Like all the "Adventure" bikes.

The real tease is the 145hp/90ftlb spec. Is that a larger variation of the street 750? If it is at least that’s a somewhat proven platform. If it’s totally new I’d be inclined to wait a model year or two.

Pretty sure it is an all new motor.

It's an all new 1250. But I would hesitate to call the Street 750 a proven platform. How many miles did the 6 people who bought them actually ride?

LOL, sorry had too...: )

Got a friend with a 2018 Street 500 and 40 miles on it

When they first came out I test road a 750. For a 750 is was peppy enough but nothing special. The balance was awful and the transmission shifting was the worse I've ever experienced. I can't imagine the 500 is any better

I'd rather ride a Blast. Tinted shield down, of course.

Compared to a Street 750 I'd rather ride a Buell Blast with a big neon sign that says "Look, Roy's riding a Blast".

I did test ride a Street 750. I bought a Sportster.

Watching Highway through Hell, just saw a 30 second commercial for the Pan Am scooting down a fire road.
I guess the fomoco is serious.

I think the "adventure bike" types are what I really wanted in a motorcycle. Competent on & off road, biased to on road cornering and braking traction. But it's a tiny niche market, even though it's practical in ways a sports bike is not with it's narrow focus.

Blame marketing and inertia, I guess.

It seems like BMW & KTM rule that space, with the High priced Paris-Dakar themed bikes.

I look forward to sitting on the Pan-Am when it hits the showroom, but really doubt I'd buy one. It'd have to really be good at filling my desires, and there are a few used Ulysses out there that I bet would be a better choice. For me, anyway.

You could buy a few used Ulysses for the same price (and inevitable mark-up).

Just from the look of the pictures it seems the seat is low and the pegs are high. My hips start to cramp just looking at it! Think I'll keep the Uly.

They'll screw it up, and it'll be dead in 3 years.

They couldn't market the VRSC family, what makes them think they'll get this right?

It pains me to completely agree with you.

But I'm not afraid of orphan bikes, heck, I collect them!

I’m not likely to buy one. Especially for $20k

I have 4 bikes and I cannot find room in the garage for anymore.
One is a Buell Westwind, then an 08 1125R and an 09 Ulysses.
Top of the list 5is a 2012 1190RS Carbon. It usually lives at the shop

There’s no way I’d spend as much on a bike less capable than my Ulysses for the price I paid for the RS.

Good luck Harley

Z

Oh BTW, I saw a couple of one year old sportsters for $9k today when I got some spark plugs for the Uly.
Hmmm, topic for another thread.

Heck, an Adventure bike might save the Motor Company. If they can market it to the shrinking new generations of riders, it might sell.

That's a big topic, "who is going to buy motorcycles in a cell phone era?" And why?

I had a couple of rides this fall where we went up seasonal dirt roads, on my Cyclone, Butercup, with my ( faster, former racer ) buddy on his XS1100 bobber, and my terror level would have been lower it I wasn't running Dunlop Q2s. : ) Otoh, the pavement parts on roads with 45 & twisty signs, were perfect.

The big bike in the woods can be a handful, but the torque made riding the edge of traction less frantic than the small bikes I'm used to on dirt. My buddy commented on the puffs of dirt my rear tire made in the steep parts. It was never, "do I have the power?" , which is a nice feeling.

Not sure how to sell that.

I rode one of these today. The suspension is nice. Has a nice riding position. I have a 29” inseam and could almost flat foot it. I liked that.

It seemed like all the ponies and torque are at the upper end of the rpm range. I didn’t like that. I had it sport mode and it just seemed like a dog at lower rpms. I would wack the throttle and not much would happen. I got back on my Aprilia ETV1000 and wacked the throttle and practically separated some joints. It had 60 fewer h.p.

I hated the kick stand. That would take some getting used to.

I’m actually looking for a new bike. At $22,000. I’d have to pass on this one. This particular dealership didn’t seem too eager to sell bikes either. Things must be going pretty good for them. Most of my questions were answered with “I dunno” and no effort to find answers. It also had a low front tire and on the interstate the front end wobbled noticeably.

So, patiently waiting to see what LAP is going to come out with. Otherwise the BMW S1000XR is looking better and better.
