So you thinks it's good idea to force everyone, who may or may not have a virus which may or may not be deadly to them, into waiting rooms to be tested?

Not what I said at all. South Korea got the test pretty right. If you were in contact with an infected person, you got tested. If you went where an infected person went, you could get tested. In the US, you had to be sick AND having respiratory problems to get tested. That guaranteed that it would spread without knowledge of who was a carrier.

Mostly I have to use 60%+ hand sanitizer because I will probably be the one who imports the virus when I come in from outside the apartment.

Great for the convenience, but simple soap and water does a better job of destroying the virus. It actually physically breaks down the shell of the virus. I would hit the sink ASAP when you get home.

Factcheck.org has an article "Democrats’ Misleading Coronavirus Claims" which includes a bit about the elimination of the Global Health Security Role of the National Security Council (NSC):

""The Trump administration did indeed eliminate a key position that would have been involved in pandemic response..."

"...Just because Ziemer’s position was discontinued does not mean everyone who was part of the team was fired or that all of the functions of the directorate ceased. According to reporting by the Atlantic and the Washington Post, some team members were shifted to other groups, and others took over some of Ziemer’s duties. An NSC spokesman at the time said that the administration “remains committed to global health, global health security and biodefense, and will continue to address these issues with the same resolve under the new structure.”

From the Factcheck.org article... https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/democrats-mislea ding-coronavirus-claims/

quote:

The Washington Post reported that former National Security Adviser John Bolton dissolved the NSC’s Office of Global Health Security and Biodefense in May 2018 in a reorganization effort. That’s when Rear Adm. R. Timothy Ziemer, who was senior director of the office, left his post. He was not replaced.

So he quit. There was reorganization going on. No doubt positions are eliminated. That doesn't equate to eliminating that function though. I'm sure the CDC is still charged with controlling disease outbreaks in the US. They failed this quite miserably right from the start. They failed by only doing a couple hundred tests at a time when there should have been thousands being done. I'm not sure that is likely to be a budget problem.

A bit more on what has gone on at the CDC under Trump... https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/feb/28/ michael-bloomberg/did-donald-trump-fire-pandemic-o fficials-defund-cd/

quote:

Our ruling

Bloomberg said Trump is hampered in the fight against coronavirus because "No. 1, he fired the pandemic team two years ago. No. 2, he's been defunding Centers for Disease Control."

On the first point, it’s hard to pin down whether the National Security Council staffers were "fired" in 2018, but they certainly left abruptly and have not been replaced, though other leaders in the coronavirus fight have been named in recent days.

On the second point — funding — there’s no question that the Trump administration sought to cut key CDC budget categories that would be involved in emerging infections like coronavirus. But Bloomberg overlooks that, thanks to Congress, that funding was restored and even increased in bills that were ultimately signed by Trump.

The statement is partially accurate but leaves out important details, so we rate it Half True.

I have no idea if folks are watching the videos I've been posting, but this one sums up a lot of information. Few countries have done well dealing with this. The WHO has FINALLY classified this as a pandemic. Horribly late to the party!

Meanwhile, my wife just got informed by the nursing home that her mom is in, in AR, is limiting visits to emergencies such as hospice care.

I also heard that our school district will be having a meeting tomorrow to discuss how to handle things if they shut the schools down. Of course, the big question is do we get paid while shut down. It's a valid question if you expect people to respect quarantine.

Here is the situation we are facing. The hospitals will be overcrowded and doctors will make decisions about who will be next on intense therapy and who will leave without it and will likely die. The priority will be given to the one who has better chances to survive, or maybe the one who has more money, or maybe the one who was more useful for society, or maybe for the one who could be more useful for society.

This is gonna be like Flood myth.

South Korea got the test pretty right. If you were in contact with an infected person, you got tested.

And they would know who was initially infected how?
And they would know who was in contact with whom how?
How many degrees of separation could this possibly involve?

Someone once said the way to determine the IQ of a mob is to, "Divide the lowest IQ of anyone in the mob by the number of people in the mob."

We have a mob of morons telling us we should panic about a virus that is likely less deadly than this year's flu virus.

It's called contact tracing. Pretty standard stuff when dealing with infectious diseases.

We have a mob of morons telling us we should panic about a virus that is likely less deadly than this year's flu virus.

I just saw this video by a doctor who is treating patients in Italy. In it, he says the mortality rate seems to be about 2%. Of course, this was posted on March 4. That was before Italy was quarantined and their hospitals were completely overrun with virus cases. Right now they are having to choose who to put on ventilators, and who doesn't get them (pretty much a death sentence) simply because they don't have enough equipment. I think I posted a video yesterday that talked about hospitals in Italy running out of O2. This kind of stuff is certainly going to push the mortality rate higher. Even worse, with depleted basic medical resources, other normally treatable ailments become fatal. At this point, comparing it to the flu is willful ignorance.

It's called contact tracing.

And it is a weak effort at best.
I have been in contact with dozens if not hundreds of total strangers in the course of the last week while going about my daily life.
I even pushed shopping carts without wiping them down first.
How is the CDC going to trace "contacts" when most people can't remember everyplace they have been over the past three days with total accuracy.
And no I don't waste my time watching "The Sky is Falling!" videos.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/03/s ince_when_are_viruses_racist.html

I don't have a "social media presence " so my pet name for the virus hasn't spread.

Feel free to do so. But he warned.

It's a deliberate insult to God King Xi, the New ruler for life of the People's Republic, and pushing it on Social Media would get you a bullet in the back of the head in China, with your family informed of your death by receiving a bill for the bullet. ( It's a real nice personal touch for rubbing in your face who's in charge, don't you think? )

But Pooh's Breath is not racist. It's "fat-ist" ( or whatever -ist "fat shaming" is ), it's mockery, and it's a bit suicidal, but not racist. ( because it's originally a Chinese on Chinese insult ) Oh, heck, maybe it is racist, I don't care. I'm not insulting Chinese, just the "elected" Ruler. ( although I have posted links to articles that complain about the Culture of Mainland China, with the lack of give a dang about public hygiene. Mostly annoying & embarrassing the more sophisticated coastal culture, like in Singapore. The parallel in the U.S. would be redneck humor )

I'm off to the BJ's warehouse store for paper towels, coffee and frozen food in bulk... But not toilet paper. ; )

I figure there, Aldis, and Doctor's office are the most dangerous places for exposure.

Wife just got back from Aldis. Very low on TP and paper towels.

Greg is engaging in willful ignorance. I don't want to panic people, but being prepared for a few weeks of being isolated is easy. Worst case, you have some extra stuff you don't need to buy for a while. Panic buying is starting to ramp up. It's not there yet, but once it's obvious, it's too late. Personally, I would avoid busy public places if you don't need to be there. It's not stopping me from driving the bus every day though.

Patrick, I like modifying it a bit and calling it "Pooh's Breath V/D". It should have just been Novel or Wuhan coronavirus. As far as I am concerned it came out of the weapons lab in Wuhan. But I'm fine with just laying it on Pooh. What a fascinating chess move it is if not just another case of incompetence.

WHO let the dogs out.
