I hate to say this state of impolite discourse is actually normal, and civility is an ideal rarely achieved. The difference is the internet lets the minority flaming jerks seem like an army in the echo chamber. Oh, sure, the Leftists are by training, racist violent would be murdering scum, but I'm biased. By more than a century of mass murder and oppression, true, but still biased. I'm not "offended" by Michelle slander ( or are memes libel? ) but they are distasteful. To pile on, photoshopped crud making her ugly are just making me sympathize with the poor thing. Bad enough to be married to a narcissist, dishonest guy. But whatever deals they've made with each other, is their business, not mine. Consider Hillary & Bill's cheating & humiliation she's been subjected to. If she didn't scare Satan you'd have to sympathize!  Yet she sticks with him. Love or pragmatic self interest? I assume the worst. I'm biased. I'm not even the target of her Deplorable remark. ( I'm worse from her viewpoint, I read her thesis. ) As to Michelle and Barry's sexuality? Other than real concern about blackmail, I figure Putin has video.  I don't care, & can't tell. I utterly lack the mythological power of Gaydar. Unless you show tv sitcom cliche indicators, ( lisp, flamboyant dress & manners, good decor sense ) and even then, I don't notice & can't tell. Don't care either. True story, when I was in my 20s, my gal pals down the hall would take me to local gay bars. I enjoyed their company, the dancing, and my girlfriend had no worries about me being seduced. She'd come along too, to dance, when her shifts at the nursing home permitted. I once complained that I felt I should be insulted that nobody hit on me at these obvious meet markets. The girls ( including my girlfriend ) just laughed at me. I was told that a: Everyone could tell I was straight, & b: I never noticed when I did get hit on, which made a: really obvious. My girlfriend said she had to hit me over the head to get me to notice she liked me. And she thought watching me be clueless to attempted seduction was hilarious. | ||

For many, the income based repayment plan equals eternal debt. Like my Sears charge card back in the 1970s. Interest rates that made Mafia bosses jealous, and a low minimum payment, meant in theory you paid and paid while your debt increased year by year. Literally eternal servitude to an ever increasing debt. I'm ashamed that it took me over two years to catch on that what I owed went up every month, and unless I paid well over the minimum amount, which was, on my monthly bill, the default setting, I'd never finish paying for that first tool set. As it was, I paid the card off and put it in a drawer, forever, after calculating I'd paid over $1300 for the $299 set. They've changed the rules on credit cards since, but not much. Student loans, let's use a real world example, of $150K with a reduced payment of $450 monthly, equals... Slavery. Depending on interest rates, which are variable, post facto, and no hope of parole. | ||
