Not a lot, but if you’re not running AC, it’s enough. The only thing we need ac for is the shop, and we have a generator if we need it. We had to hook up to the local electrical grid. No way around it.
Hey Matt. If that's your dream, go for it! Nothing better than having an empty bucket list.
That's so dang cool, Glitch. I'm content with my little shoe box in the center of Mur-vil, but the peace and quiet you've got must be incredible. Good on ya, you deserve it, friend.
Was that because of laws and ordinances? Yep Most municipalities won't give you a building permit without power from the grid. Something about a contract between the power and the county. Its nonsense, but if I want to live in the Southeast, its the way it is. We don't have to use it, just install it.
Looked into micro hydro, but we'd have to get another permit to put it in the creek. Diverting water is a big no no. Even if you're not diverting it. If only beavers had to get a permit, the county would be rich$$!
Thanks Brad, its a lot of work, but well worth it. We ought to be done with Dan's cabin in the next month or so. I can't wait!
We're zoned agriculture so we can build most anything except for living quarters. Usually you would have to build at least 1700 sq ft for a house. since we''re zoned for a farm we only have to build 684 sq ft.
I'll get some pics up after while. Most everything now is just boring detail work. The last 10% is soooooooooo slow
