So I worked with a guy for 30 years and while hanging out with him I met his neighbor and became friends with him. While hanging out in his garage, enjoying a beverage, I meet a friend of his who is a chef. While talking to him I mentioned the Buell. I was telling him about going to the Buell homecoming and how Erik came by Gus's and talked to us for a couple of hours. He ask me if I knew Mel Ortner. I told him I didn't. He explained that Mel and Erik were old friends and had a really cool Buell. He grabbed his phone and called up Mel and handed the phone to me. We talked for a while and he seemed like a really nice guy. Then my friend sent an e-mail to both of us to connect us up. Well Mel sent me this story about his bike written by Reg Kittrelle so I thought I'd share it. Beautiful machine:     | ||

Mel used to be one of my customers at High Country. Spent several hours BSing about Buells. Very good/cool guy. Around the same timeframe, 2011 or 2012, another regular was Don Casto. He tutored me in tuber shocks because we had a dozen or so shock recall kits so I knew what they fit. Sold most of them to badwebbers. Both Don and Mel are missed here, I really enjoyed our conversations. Z | ||

I met Mel a few times - he purchased our air cleaner kit and sprocket cover that we offered at the time. Several years later he called me out of the blue - wondering if I had any sprocket covers left. Nice guy, always enjoyed having a conversation with him. |
