Wolfridgerider, you're not getting it. What you're talking about is a technique that was developed around the limitations of an internal combustion engine. If the revs drop too low, the engine stalls so you have to keep the revs up, but in order to not roll forward too quickly you have to slip the clutch to reduce your speed and maybe even drag the rear brake.

NONE of those hand/foot wrist/ankle acrobatics are required with an electric motor. You need to UNLEARN everything you knew about slow riding and relearn how to do it. I know a lifetime of training is hard to unlearn but it CAN be done. I managed.

Jaimec, That's why I need to ride one... until then, my jury is still out....

It took me awhile to get used to it but once you get the hang of it, it is AMAZING how much easier it is to ride than an ICE bike.

It will be VERY eye opening once people start getting some legitimate seat time on bike like this....and I don't mean a 5min quick test ride. I mean real daily rides like you typically do on your regular motorcycles.

You know where the sweet spot is RPM wise for the bikes you typically ride. Each bike is different.....thumper, twin, boxer, inline 4......they all have their own characteristics, but they are all a hoot to ride in their "sweet spot". That spot in the RPM range that makes the bike come alive and everything balances out. With an electric motor.....that is literally EVERYWHERE. There is no power band or torque curve......there is just torque. Its there, 100% of the time

Its very rewarding and the "throttle" response is amazing. Its just 100% pure linear acceleration anytime you twist the grip. Always predictable, no hiccups, no missed shifts, just smooth clean power. People scoff, but once the range and cost is there, lap times will start to drop, and it will be the new normal. Maybe not for long distance cruisers yet, but for the weekend toys, it is definitely an easy replacement

Nothing like the sound of a late Pan or early Shovel, idling at 750rpm.
Shakes the ground...

I'm very interested in the Fluid tho, perfect for work commute of less than 10 miles.

What I LOVE about my Zero is how it has transformed my Sunday morning rides. Once I get off the heavily trafficked roads on to my favorite little two-laners, I can hear EVERYTHING. Kids playing in yards, dogs barking, birds chirping... very reminiscent of the rides I used to take by bicycle, only I'm not exhausted at the top of a hill.

After awhile you reach this "Zen" state where the bike disappears and it's just you flying over the pavement with nothing but the wind in your ears. That must be what it's like to be Superman flying silently under your own power.

I used to run a 13' canoe with a 4 hp trolling motor and 2 batteries on the river. Most peaceful and relaxing. I imagine it has to be like that. I quit putting the gas engine on it after one silent ride. It was painted flat black and I'd often take it out on White River in Indianapolis after dark. No one would even notice I was there. The best was lazy Sunday afternoons and a 2 gallon pressure sprayer set to mist with cold water in it. I may be talking myself back into one.

Both my Firebolt and 1125R would "disappear".
The Uly, not so much but still It's my most ridden.

+1.....they are here to stay and in MANY ways better than what we are currently riding. Not saying there won't be a place for some vintage noise making, but don't crap on silent torque until you crack the throttle open on a capable e-bike. It will change a lot of minds.

There will be some way to go before an eBike can completely replace an ICE bike. For one thing, although some diehards have accomplished it on eBikes, cross-country road trips are INFINITELY easier on ICE machines.

On the other hand, 95% of my every day riding is EASILY accomplished by my Zero which means less wear and tear on my 20-year old Beemer.

Although I don't think eBikes are a passing fad, I DO believe the current litany of specifications being published for bikes that don't yet exist are the new version of the "Blockchain Hype" of recent memory...

"Ultimately, all engines are air cooled."

A lot of boats pull their cooling medium out of the body of water they are bobbing around on. Now, I suppose the argument would then be that the river or lake or ocean had been "air cooled". But if the boat in question is plying its way up some river in Alaska, then the water was probably a glacier two days ago and it has actually been "air warmed" instead of "air cooled".

There are always exceptions.

Looks like the article was updated because I saw "Erik" when I read it.

What is interesting to me is that this appears to be one of the few times Erik has been involved with creating a bike that is NOT geared towards being a high-performance leader in its segment. Rather, he is building a practical "tool" for getting around congested urban environments.

Only other bike I can think of that comes close is the Blast.

Yep, edited. My first read it was "Eric" but now it's "Erik".

I think this is a smart approach for the company. The tech simply isn't there yet for a performance/touring/more-than-slog-to-work vehicle, just due to range limitations. Getting out there with a machine that will succeed at meeting it's given goals - get you to work in a congested city environment - as opposed to something that fails - a "road bike" that doesn't have enough range to be entertaining - is a good move. The company will hopefully get a good name for itself that way, and when/if the tech does become available to go more than a hundred miles for every 30 minute recharge...they can build on the name and expand the line.

I didn't start anything . . . I simply wrote the Author a nice note and let him know he'd made a common mistake. No one was insulted but, for the sake of his credibility and to lend merit to his article, he might consider changing it.

He did immediately.

I make and correct about 14 mistakes a day (the most recent a real doozie in an MD-500) and thrive . . .for my own survival . . . on correctly same.

A couple of you got treated to the account my "near death" experience in Warren, VT recently . . . . I've raised getting my ass out of a sling to an art form.

Hahahaha. . . .
