I was back to my office after a call.
Marketing was on my floor, and had CNN blaring on 15 monitors, as they did every morning.
As I unlocked the door and gave it a shove.
All the TVs went to New York...

A terrible day a long time ago.
My favorite cousin was vaporized on the 101st floor, 2nd tower.
Route 80 was shut down and when it finally reopened the Poconos was full of people just driving around aimlessly for weeks.

I haven't been able to bring myself to go back to NYC since. I should change that before I leave this area.

All these years later the world seems crazier than ever.

I was working for a Jeep dealer at the time, in the Parts department. Putting orders away off the daily truck, heard it over the radio in the parts room and everything stopped. Throughout the dealer.

Oh, and we were literally across the street from Ft Detrick - the "bug factory". Speculating. Wondering if it would be next. If it was...we were all done; if not instantly, soon enough from all the bio agents inside.

Las Vegas at a trade show. Ended up driving our rental car back to VA. Picking up stranded co-workers on the way, packing a Buick Regal with 6 people!
Eerily empty skies, yet full highways/rest areas.
Sharpest travel memory: Shoe polished rear window:
Pray for those stricken Strike those who Prey!

I was in the USN over at my buddies house. We worked the weekend shift so we had the day off. We turned the TV on and were both just in disbelief. He was particularly shaken as he had, only about 6 months prior, had been released from China after an 11 day "vacation" after his plan was hit by a Chinese fighter.

I was with the SO's family on Long Island.

We just sat down in in the church to lay her grandfather to rest when my F-I-L's pager went off. It was Scott McNealy (CEO of SUN Microsystems) asking if the fil could possibly find out what happened to about 2 dozen SUN employees working in one of the towers. We tried, but failed to get even close after the services were over.

I't impossible to forget.

When I heard about the first plane on my way to work at the VA hospital, I thought it could be a computer glitch in the navigation system. I realized with the second plane this was no accident. Not much real work was going on in our shop, we all mostly watched the TVs.

About the time tower 1 fell, someone called in a bomb threat to our hospital. We evacuated 600+ patients into the parking lot in about 30 minutes. Then the FBI asked for volunteers familiar with the building to do a bomb sweep. I had worked as an electrician in all the mechanical areas, and in the Biomedical department in the clinical areas, but since I'm an Instrument Maker not a tech supporting any equipment for patient care, I figured I might as well volunteer. We never did find anything.

We did lose 2 patients later that day, but the events were not a factor. Both were at deaths door before, and were not moved. The ICU's nursing staff sat with them during the evacuation, and while we were doing the sweep. I believe one veterans family did get a chance to see their loved one before his passing. We also had a heart case going in one of the ORs The surgery team continued on and the patient came through fine.

The bomb threat turned out to be a hoax. Somebody in housekeeping thought if they called in a threat they wouldn't have to go to work that day. ( Apart from the terrorism it was a beautiful September day)

I hope their still in jail for that.

Yep- on my way to work, got in the restaurant, everyone was standing and watching the TVs in the bar. As things unfolded with both towers, the Pentagon, and flight 93, it was simply surreal.

In the following days, quite real.

And- for whatever reason, somehow I acquired a jigsaw puzzle of the World Trade Center, LONG before 9/11/01 happened...
not really sure what to do with it, except keep it in the box and safe.

Had just got into work at the information center at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, had gotten my coffee and was ready to settle down for programming session. Decided to check yahoo news first and saw that a 'light plane' had hit the trade center. Went into the hardware guys area because he had a TV and saw the second plane 's impact.

Went home to check on wife and kids then went to donate blood. Hundreds of people there. We took turns answering the phone because the staff was to busy.

Horrible memories!

Was in a weekly product integrity meeting at East Troy. One of the team members got a panic call from his wife urging him to find a TV and turn on the news. We watched the news unfold on a co-workers laptop before moving to watch the TV in the lunchroom. Everyone was pretty stunned.

I was home and watched the second plane hit the twin towers, then the towers fell. Drive to work, heard about the Pentagon.

Late to work, told supervisor I'd work regardless of terrorist threat, unless it went biological, then I'd stay home in reserve. Since work was a prime vector.

Then stayed at work when the bio attack took place, killing fellow employees and a forgotten grandmother. That crime/attack was never solved, giving me a real reason to distrust the FBI. Guess which currently famous FBI official was involved in the hounding to suicide a probably harmless man in the process of not solving the crime?

The lesson of Sept. 11, 2001, was simple. The war declared on western civilization by Mohammed was still ongoing, and the ante laid down. Western Civilization still won't admit there is a war, and thus is losing.

I won't be alive to see American women forced to wear a veil, but I might live long enough to see it in Europe, maybe even England, where reporting the identity of the sex slavery and gang rapes is, apparently illegal.

Never Forget.

Never lie to yourself about who is at war with you.

I was about ready to head out the door to work when the first impact hit the news.
Had only gotten a full size TV 2 or 3 days prior, had been using a pocket TV to watch Stanley Cup and very little else.
I left shortly after the 2nd plane hit, watching the live feed.

Walked around at work with the pocket TV and had a knot of co-workers around when the first tower fell.

The campus at Valleylab has a small airport and a regional airport nearby.
That day was the most surreal day of my life.
So were the following days, weeks of NO airplanes in the sky.

When they did start flying again, all eyes were on them to make sure they weren't going to crash on us.

I'll not forget
