He should be honored for his service, remembered for his bravery in captivity under torture, and replaced by someone who has policies I agree with more.

I don't see the need to knock his memory, just because I disagreed with him, often, nor to pick on any of his recent comments with severe brain disease. He's gone, he gets a pass.

I expect a giant funeral with utterly classless, dishonest, people pimping their own importance and using the theater of his passing to make political hay.

Unfortunately, it's only in bad movies that a meteor strike, or terrorist bomb would end the festivities as soon as the maximum number of scum was assembled to exploit his death.

Which game had a meteor lure? I want one.

Tough crowd? Yep. The power of the office of Senator has lost it's ability to awe me. The concept of "respect the office, not the man" has, over time, been so abused, as to be meaningless.

I can respect those I disagree with. But simply being the Aristocracy of the Government no longer has any respect. It's been burned away by moral relativism and subjective lack of truth. We have 100 "Miss America pageant winners", instead of responsible adults.

Thus, "Senator" has no magic to force respect. It's up to the flawed humans that we hire & pay, to do the job we don't have the time or desire to do, to Earn respect.

Few have.

McCain earned respect, even if he was of a differing ideology, Party, or opinion.

And the Harpies even now arguing over their positions in the circus we are about to watch, or ignore, deserve contempt, in advance, because they will horribly, predictably, make the funeral celebration of a heroes life into self promotion, and declarations of hatred to gain power.

He was a prime example of the globalist progressive RINO and how much I despise the over politicization of everything. I hate political theater and he was always an actor. It always makes me wonder how people get to the point of peddling nonsense as a matter of course.

I don't know the guy as a man...just his public persona...and I am not a fan of his brand of political activism.

Some of yall get so wrapped up in politics you lose your humanity.

Also, how many of you voted for him in 08?

I didnt agree with some of his ideas, but it really sucks he had to suffer as much as he did and then the pain his loved ones are going through with his passing.
RIP McCain

"Some of y'all get so wrapped up in politics you lose your humanity."

Sad, but so true nowadays.

I had to hit Wallyworld today, and there were girls at the entrances taking money for "Wreaths Across USA", they were all high school Air Force ROTC... I made sure to throw in a few $$$ in memory of Senator McCain, and my dad, who was USAF Korea.

Prayers up for Cindy McCain and his family, friends.

Tough crowd.

As it should be.
Having lived it Arizona for almost 20 years he has pissed me off more times than I can count.
The spiteful vote against Trump and for Obamacare really did it for me.

He should have retired years ago.

I respect the fact that, like many of us, he served his country.

Hopefully he will be replaced by someone with honestly conservative views.

Simple reality... He was a mixed bag. In recent years, he got worse and worse for conservatism. His passing doesn't change that.

I certainly wouldn't condone hitting any Capitol rotunda with kinetic strikes. Heaven forbid.

Bad citizenship, save them for book burnings.

As a U.S. Navy veteran, I hold other veterans to a higher standard. Mr. McCain violated his oath to the US Constitution, as an officer in the USN, the citizens of Arizona and the United States of America at large.

We've all made mistakes. However, maturity is supposed to make us reflect, redefine our character as we age. And we should be honest about who we were before we actually came to the point where we acknowledged our own character flaws.

It would seem to me that as John McCain aged, he became spiteful and vindictive! John McCain found himself in the middle of much that is wrong within the USA over the last 60 years.

You've heard the saying "True character is how you act when you think no one is watching" right? Problem was, McCain was caught time and again trying to explain his lack of character, explaining away his lack of honesty and integrity as he saw it. Lack of maturity, over time, takes it's toll.

He alone continued to blame others for the mistakes he made once he decided to enter politics. Keating 5, Gang of 8, and the Obamacare repeal NO vote are but a couple of times he showed his true character!

In summary, John McCain became part of the establishment that he said he despised!

When these "progressives" open their mouths I wonder, "Constitution, can you read it?"

The modern reinterpretation is activist nonsense.

Civics is trying to be devolved into a matter of public opinion by the "muh democracy" mobs. Thankfully that's not how anything works.

Everything is stupid.

The A.C.A. was a sham. I sure hope "muh legacy" is repealed.

I voted for him on '08 and liked him up until that point. He seemed to change during the Obama years ... and then I lost a lot of respect for him for the way he acted since Trump started running and then won the election and more specifically how he torpedoed the Obamacare repeal.

That said and recent behavior aside, I have tremendous respect for his service to the country. RIP and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I lost a lot of respect for him when he came out saying that torture simply doesn't work. It worked on him though. He caved, and told what he could. I can forgive that. When he then claims that it doesn't work, he is flat out lying. Had he used his first hand experience with torture to explain the virtues of not engaging in the practice, I would have found that to be worthwhile. Instead he simply told lies. Not that what we engaged in as enhanced interrogation had any resemblance to the methods used by the North Vietnamese.

Since that time, he seemed to relish in being the "maverick" of the Republican party. It's one thing to be a maverick in leadership. It's quite another to be a maverick, throwing a wrench into the works. McCain became more of the latter.

"I hope we can again rely on humility, on our need to cooperate, on our dependence on each other to learn how to trust each other again and by so doing better serve the people who elected us. Stop listening to the bombastic loudmouths on the radio and television and the Internet. To hell with them. They don't want anything done for the public good. Our incapacity is their livelihood."

Edit ... I think that stuff was bs. I didn't like who he turned into after he lost to Obama or his actions in relation to Trump, specifically how he torpedoed the Obamacare repeal but I'm not going to propagate lies.

Thanks for your service and RIP.

Just noticed that the flag at the park next to my house hadn't been lowered to half-staff. Fixed it, after listening to an hour of interviews with him on my local NPR station.

Regarding compromise with the left, the right has been doing that for decades. The result has been a shift to the left. The left never compromises. We’ve reached a point where there is little common ground. They want communism. I do not. They don’t believe a baby geographically disadvantaged by living on the wrong side of a uterus is a human being. I do. The big issues facing us do not have a compromise position. The loud voices did not create this condition.

Heck, I've crashed more than he has. ; )

I just fly much slower aircraft & no one shoots Soviet missiles at me.

Don't feel the need to disrespect him. I've already had one great pilot from that damn war had his reputation ruined and sent to prison for corruption. Unless you count Congress as a worse reference than Federal Prison, which I might agree with, McCain still served & deserves credit for it.

I can make a good case for Treason with Kerry.

McCain had every right to disagree and disrespect the current President. And hold his disagreement with the previous one. So do I. So do you. If he was alive & we argued? Didn't happen. Won't ever, now.

I got nothing rude to say to his legacy, fans, or haters.
