I've got surgery Wednesday morning They'll attempt to get my left arm's nervous system under control. They'll try to save as much mobility as they can. If they just get rid of the pain, I'll be good to go. It's atrophied so bad I don't use it very much at all any way. I'd be lyin' if I said I wasn't nervous. The anesthesiologist said she was well versed in handling seizure risks. She's Hungarian and was calling me "Daaling" Green Acres came to mind, and I laughed out loud! Thanks for reading this, its good to get it off my mind a little. Ann's got enough to worry bout, so I dump on yous guys. It was good seeing everyone the other weekend. I've had a rough time, and seeing y'all was what the doctor ordered. I'll update y'all on Thursday. Ride safe
When I was getting my colonoscopy a couple of months ago, the anesthesia nurse was very attractive. As she was filling my veins up with anesthetic, I realized that she was a true Knock Out Blonde. Fortunately, I was out cold before I could tell her that.
Green Acres - wish I had time to find a funnier clip:
Feel free to 'dump on' us guys anytime. We're here for you!
I wish I would've been able to make April Buell's and had the opportunity to see you a week ago, but hopefully I'll be able to make Buelltoberfest and we'll all see you then.
Buddy of mine just had a similar procedure. Bass player. Losing left hand dexterity due to nerve damage. Been atrophying for a while, he's been pushing through. Surgery about 6 weeks ago, pain has stagnated - which was their immediate goal - and they're saying progress should start in about 6 months. At least the degradation has stopped, and he's had no ill effects from the operation. Hopefully yours will go as well!
And keep Ann in the loop. "Worrying about" is always better than "you betrayed me by not telling me".
Prayers and best wishes for your surgery Dave. You made me LOL with the Green Acres reference. I watched a lot of reruns of that when I was in college.
After Brankin’s head gasket episode, this was the next one that came to mind:
Positive thoughts and prayers.Green Acres was alway a funny show for me.After what i went through back in 2016 with the tripe whammie( 1st my abdominal artery ruptured and almost bleed to death,Doc said had i gotten there 15 minutes later, i'd of been a statistic in a book, Then, while recouping at home from that ordeal, got the lovely call that i had celiac disease and colorectal cancer.Yeah .not a way to peak my fun meter, expecially going through h*ll with 6 weeks of chemo and radiation. Then after that removed 3/4 of my large intestine.....wweeeeeeee....NOT).Still on a slow recovery as to gaining weight/mass( i have a high metabolism) and dealing with side effects of the chemo(neuropathy and "chemo of the brain", both suck big time). Anyway, may you have a positive and uneventful " event" and a speedy recovery and back to 100% okie dokie. to ya,LT
Dude! Was great to get to speak with you again. You were getting around so well would not have known you were up for more.
Understanding the seizure risk and your long recovery from them, know this about anesthesia. When in the prep room when they relax you.....you are not out, but not conscious either, you will have no memory of it ,but you will say anything that comes to mind. That nurse.....offended.....worried about the doc.....he'll know. Don't like someone's mama....they will know! Ha ha.
Got to witness this when in for a minor surgery where I did not have to be completely out. The anesthesiologist warned me about being alert in pre op. He was joking with me saying it was nice to have one alert enough to talk to.
Dangit Dave! Prayers up and Godspeed to your healing... now, I've got a tune for ya. Local guys, total awesomeness... yes, their name is Smokin' Dave and the Premo Dopes!!!
Prayers and good mojo heading to GA... be sure to check out those songs I posted above when you get home, buddy!
BTW, not that it's any of my biz, but what happened to your left arm? I don't see how that would be a part of your sinus/brain ordeal, but what do I know...
Hi all! Thank you so much for the thoughts, prayers and good mojo! Glitch came through the anesthesia/surgery very well. The neurosurgeon was able to remove the neurofibromas from his left arm. The tech (I don't remember his specific title - it's one of them there fifty dollar words) - then performed nerve stimulation testing to see what nerves they might be able to save. Once they had this info, the neurosurgeon was able to perform several nerve grafts to hopefully help Glitch regain more use of his arm. He had a spectacular team taking care of him. Even though this was an out patient surgery, they were prepared to admit him overnight for monitoring or pain management if needed. Just before we were discharged, they gave him a local anesthetic for pain so he could get some food on his stomach before he'd have to start taking pain meds. In the past, he's had trouble with anesthesia making him pitifully ill afterwards. But this time, he's had no trouble at all. We were half-joking with the anesthesiologist about him being a light weight, and she said "No problem! We'll just roll low and slow." He's in good spirits and is feeling pretty good right now (Course, that could be Oxycodone. Hmmmm.)
Squids (and to anyone else), this is not related to the sinus infection fiasco. Glitch has a genetic condition called Neurofibramatosis. Tumors, usually benign, grow anywhere in the nervous system. Anywhere. Thank God, the bothersome tumors have been isolated to his left arm. He had this same surgery over 20 years ago when he was first diagnosed. There are folks out there who are affected so much more worse than Glitch, even children. The real bugger about these tumors, is they don't necessarily grow "on" the nerve, they can grow THROUGH the nerve. They cause a great deal of pain and can damage nerves beyond the point of saving. In Glitch's case, his grow very slowly. This is why it's taken so many years to get to the point that they bothered him enough to have them removed. They're always there, but it's just one of those things that often time surgery is the very last resort unless they are causing damage and pain. We were actually pursuing getting this surgery done the year before the sinus infection problems hit. (Streptococcus Constellatus - say the name of the demon whenever possible to make sure it stays damned to hell where it belongs)
I've rambled enough for now I guess. Glitch wanted me to hop on her and let everyone know he's ok. And to thank you all for once again being the awesomeness that you all are.
And Wolf, he didn't give me that hug yet. He's in trouble.
