If there is a REAL lesson from Iraq & Afghanistan, it's that the Post WW2 Japan way is better.

Better than the disaster left by WW1, with the Versailles Treaty punishing Germany, ( leading to the Socialists taking over ) and better than the ongoing cease fore in Korea.

Win. Take over. Put in a Regent. Hand them a Constitution, and make it stick. Turn over power when, and only when, they get the idea and can follow through. Then keep an eye on them.

It doesn't have to be as detailed as ours. Basic structure, basic bill of rights. Freedom of speech, religion, self defense, fair trials.

As to the strikes on Syria, can YOU explain why Obama went to war there? I can't.

( I have an explanation, but it assumes Obama is a lying sack from top to bottom )

When you fire someone when you find they are complaining about a hostile work environment, you commit a crime.

When you witch hunt witnesses to that crime you commit another. Lie about it, another.

Thank Hughlysses. I think he posted from there first. Credit where due.

I tend Jacksonian on war.
Don't unless you have to.
If you have to, use overwhelming force to get it over faster & minimize your casualties.
Accomplish the mission and get out.

The downside of Jacksonian policy is excess collateral damage. But often far less than drawing out a conflict with idiocies like "proportional response". Look at Syria. Hundred thousand plus dead? Screw proportional, get 'er done! You get a reputation as brutal. Good! Maybe they will think twice next time.

Knife to a fist fight? Nope. Axe. Better yet, claymore mine, command mode.

Jacksonians tend to lose interest after winning, which is why the Hamiltonians and Jeffersonians take over after the war is won, often with bad results, see Afghanistan, Treaty of Versailles, etc.

Note that I'm Jacksonian about war. Much more Jeffersonian domestically, egalitarian virtues like obligation to vote responsibly, universal sufferage, etc.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffersonian_democ racy

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacksonian_democra cy

Note that the wiki articles are biased and incomplete.

And Jefferson himself led America to it's first real projection of power against the Barbary pirates, aka Islamist terrorism and blackmail. See the line from the Marine Hymn, "to the shores of Tripoli".

As always in politics, I seldom agree completely with one side or another, so my views are a synthesis of the sides, often more libertarian than either. I've long been resigned to knowing candidates who actually match my views just don't get elected.

Example. I'm big on law and order. But some laws are bad. Drug prohibition, alcohol or weed or opiates, is foolish and destructive. It feeds organized crime, and wrongly criminalizes users, rather like prostitution laws. OTOH, pimps are slavers, and deserve to be put down like mad dogs, without mercy of remorse. ( I really hate pimps. Experience. )

Try getting a law & order candidate who favors legal drugs and sex past either Party's exploitation of criminal and racial and cultural differences.

Maybe in a century there will be Trumponian Democracy articles in the encyclopedia. : )

Meanwhile, like Vietnam, we have an unwanted war in Syria, passed from a Democrat socialist manipulator to the next administration, to end.

And Iraq, ( arguably set in motion by a Democrat socialist manipulator ) that a Republican began, won,and ended.

Then in both cases Democrats turned them into losses. Congress in Vietnam. Obama in Iraq.

Syria? Ongoing. Blaming Donald for Syria is lying of the foulest odeur.

I was infuriated by the betrayal of honor that was the Democrat Congresses legacy of Vietnam. I predicted it's echo in Iraq, and was no less angered.

You might see how John Kerry, treasonous rich dishonest snob, made me past anger when he claimed there was no massacres in Vietnam after the Communists were handed the country. I know, personally, many refugees who witnessed the purges and lost family. Tens of millions murdered. If there is any man who deserves to be hung by the neck until dead, it is John Kerry. I'd kick the stool out from under him and consider it an honor.

The rest of the politicians responsible for these stains on our flag simply merit a bullet to the back of the head in Soviet style.

You might notice I feel strongly about the subject. These wars are personal to me. My classmates and friends died. My Nation irreparably damaged by the betrayal.

Btw, the next Syrian chemical attack on civilians, the appropriate response is to bomb the Presidential palace.

From a practical military perspective, reducing the Russian supplied air defense systems in Syria are very important for any action we take, including pulling out.

We may want to be leaving a Kurdish nation behind in the region. Turkey will foul itself, but we actually want the current dictator inconvenienced. Preferably to death, and restoration of secular Turk rule.

The more missiles the Syrians shoot at our missiles, the better. Maybe the next step is systematic destruction of Syrian air defences?

We're damned if we do, and damned if we don't.
The problem with the middle east is that there's no "good guy" to prop up. Today's hero is tomorrow's villain. And no matter which regime we topple, it will leave a vacuum that will be filled by someone just as bad.
But, what do you do? Stand by while totalitarian governments use chemical agents on their own people? That doesn't seem like the right answer either.

IT'S A JOKE JULIE.

"Most of the Syrian countermeasures, including defensive ballistic missiles, were fired after U.S. and allied weapons hit their targets, Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie told reporters on Saturday.

“No Syrian weapon had any effect on anything we did,” McKenzie said. He described the joint U.S., French and U.K. strike as “precise, overwhelming and effective.”

Donald Trump/Putin Surrogate/Appointee Secretary of Defense Mattis said the following last night:

“Based on recent experience, we fully expect a significant disinformation campaign over the coming days by those who have aligned themselves with the Assad regime.”

Today Pentagon spokespersons, Dana White:

“There has been a 2,000 percent increase in Russian trolls in the last 24 hours. Therefore, we will keep you all abreast of the facts moving forward.”

I expect misinformation campaigns taking place, as we get closer to the November election.

JOHN ADAMS, letter to John Taylor, 1814: "Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious, or less avaricious than aristocracy or monarchy. It is not true, in fact, and nowhere appears in history. Those passions are the same in all men, under all forms of simple government, and when unchecked, produce the same effects of fraud, violence, and cruelty."

Tough call . . .

But, nonetheless, the ranting is so comical as to add a dimension of humor . . . it brings to mind Alfred E. Neuman discussing biomedical science.

Clueless.

And . . . if you want to see just how well it works . . . spend a couple days, look around and play "Where's Hillary"?

When our nation . . . as quiet as the real majority is . . . saw a criminal who was being treated as an heir apparent to lead us . . . we all answered "I'm with her" when the kid pollsters called but march to the voting booth, against her 97.4% "sure thing" (quoting the NY Times) and said "we'd rather have a boisterous, loud-mouth, tweeting game show host of a real estate developer leads us than a criminal who views herself as above those she seeks to govern.

The good news out of Syria is our airplanes seem able to defeat the second most sophisticated air defense system, after Moscow. It may have the latest Russian supplied and operated anti air missiles, in nearly the density.

The thrifty Russian habit of never throwing stuff away means both Moscow & Damascus have old SA-2 missile systems mixed in with SA-10 and newer ones. The old Fan Song radars are on hills next to newer phased array anti stealth radars. Old weapons still kill. It's a good test run for Moscow.

Syria may someday be considered the second Spanish Civil War. The testing ground for aviation's latest technology before WW2. There, in the 1930's, the newest German & Soviet equipment and tactics were tested against each other. Modern close air support, the Me-109, Stuka dive bomber, HE-111 medium bomber, I-15 & I-16 fighters......

https://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/spanish-c ivil-war-aircraft.asp

And the first case of a city destroyed by aerial bombardment. Guernica.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guernica_(Picasso)#Historical_context

Today Russia has been testing it's bombers against American backed troops. Iran, Drone bombs against Israel. American stealth bombers vs. Russian anti air systems.....

Although an extensive drone war is ongoing in another Obama's Wars front in Ukraine, as reported in Smithsonian Air and Space magazine, and the Saudi/Yemen front, ballistic missile & defense, Syria is the most similar to the Spanish Civil War.

Ironically, historians may someday credit Barack Obama with driving advances in warfare with his decision to start and join the U.S. illegally in multiple wars from the Atlantic to Indian oceans. I suspect comparison to both Chamberlain and Benedict Arnold will be applied.

I referenced this information in a different thread so here's a visual aid.
These folks were all survivors of the Vegas Massacre, then "magically" died shortly thereafter under unusual and suspicious circumstances. I looked them up on the google and it seems stranger than fiction.

After all this time has passed, the current and most plausible Conspiracy Theory is that Paddock was an arms dealer and was used as a pawn (that's why there were SO MANY weapons in the room, when he only needed one rifle and a handful of mags).

Saudi Arabian prince Salman had recently met with Trump and allegedly had agreed to purge SA of its corruption and ties to terrorism in exchange for Trump's favor and backing. Saudi Royals had rented out the upper floors of Mandalay Bay at the time of the massacre.

The rumor is that Prince Salman was there and the plan was to execute him. He would have been heavily guarded and a full tactical assault would have to be executed. Full auto gunfire provided the background music to drown out the assault. Paddock was dead already and later framed. The prince was protected by his guard force and extracted; the assassination attempt was a failure. And witnesses who knew more than was good for them were done away with.

It's just a conspiracy theory. With some plausible puzzle pieces.

A lot smells terrible from the Vegas shooting but there were a huge number of people there that could have been counted as witnesses.
Statistically speaking, what are the odds of that sort of sampling?

Back to paranoia-mode, Has anyone investigated the first few victims yet?
Like if it was a hit covered up by a "crazy guy shooting up the place" sort of thing.

I would like it more if some three lettered agency released SOME actual info.
Like the missing hard drive from the laptop thing.
The charger for a cell phone he didn't own thing.
The wife goes on vacation with wad of cash thing.

This crap just lends itself to more and more theories.

There were many thousands of people who witnessed that shooting. If all of these people were more than just faces in the crowd, that would lend credence to the conspiracy theory.

The hotel employee who was in the hallway being shot at is an odd one to look at. His time line supposedly had repeatedly changed, and wound up going out of the country for an extended period. Gave only one interview, to news media that had connections to the hotel.

I'm not saying there's not some sort of conspiracy here. I'm just not convinced that six people who died afterwards is evidence of that. Were any of them more than just a face in the crowd of targets? There are a lot of things that don't make much sense about that shooting. Your post mentioned some of them. I know I've seen video that certainly sounded like shooters in more than one location. Not just shooting out a different window of the hotel suite either. More along the lines of gun fire in the distance, the suddenly very near by. There are claims the shooter had links to ISIS too. We sure know very little at this point.

I had assumed you were too intelligent to use a trash site like "americanthinker" as a news source Pat. I thought you were the independent thinker on this board. You are always claiming to be a "libertarian" yet you regurgitate the same conspiracy theory crap as most of the others here. We all know you've got lot's of time on your hands and that you're bored and that you have a flair for the dramatic. Could you not just create your own conspiracy theory instead of just linking to a bullshit outside source? I'm sure you could create something ten times more entertaining than what the peon's at American Thinker could come up with. If you really think about it, you could have written a pretty good novel or perhaps a book about Buell with all the time and words you have invested in this bulletin board. Maybe you should start putting your anthology together from this site. I realize your health isn't so great and you don't get out much, but damn, you still have a life that is worth living beyond your computer screen.

American Thinker has about as much journalistic integrity as Info Wars. Anybody here a fan of Info Wars?

When the former FBI head gives an interview confessing to obstruction of justice, on top of serial perjury in public & testimony to Congress, I can assume his book is equally full of feces as his other statements meant to make him look good and attack his enemies.

Glad to see I use credible and self honest about their own bias sources.
