It seems our buddy Brad, Squids86129, has found himself in the ER today. Says he feels as if he had eaten a dead rotting squid! Probably one that had eaten a Lion Fish. They are saying his gall bladder is junk. Spit out a boulder this am blocking what probably is important. He said something about excruciating something or other. If you wish this might be a good time for a prayer or a bucket of good MOJO his way, as he will be operated on today. He is in good spirits. Worried about work more than the surgery. |

Well, his cholesterol will go down. They way the doc explained it, your body needs cholesterol to digest fat. If there isn't any available in the digestive tract, it'll take it from your blood. This is how cholesterol binding drugs work in the intestine to remove cholesterol from the blood. Following that logic, he'll have to start eating high cholesterol foods in order to digest fat, which you need in order to stay healthy. Hello steak and ice cream! |

Hey all, I'm here for now- WAITING<WAITING for the surgeon. My sweetie just got back from the house with the 'puter, so I can yak a bit. What started with sharp chest pains just under my heart apparently was diagnosed as pleurisy... then doc ordered ultrasounds. As dude was scanning/smooshing my right side, the pain hit BAD under my heart. The gallbladder apparently can cross-transmit signal, which fired the pleurisy. Yeesh. Gots a 3cm stone getting closer to the bile duct, let's get rid of this shiznit. Good/bad news is that I've not had anything but water and a bit of juice since last nite, and I'M STARVING. No food til this is done. CRAAAAPPPPP Good news is all my other guts/cardio checked out fine except the GB. Extra good news, no heart attack. Just sitting here bored, hangry, no caffeine so far either. Sucky day, but the outcome should be Bueno. My plans for April Buells may change, will advise when I can. Thanks for the well-wishes and mongo mojo, all. Hope to see lots of you soon. Here's my gallbladder...

Best wishes. A buddy just went through this and it cured some pain in the side he'd been having. Just another chorus in the organ recital of age. |

Holy Sh*t! I go out for a couple of hours and all hell breaks loose! Brad, I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible and you recover quicker than expected. Don't sweat it if you miss April Buells. Buelltober/vember fest is only a few months away. To think; you just might have to order ribs from Smokin' Jims, just to eat healthy! |

Take care Brad, you'll be good once they're done. I had mine out a few years ago - massive sudden pain after dinner one night, they caught it just before it ruptured. Scoped it out, back to work in 2 days. Enjoy the dietary changes. Food that used to be "normal" can now make things into an "express lane", if you know what I mean. It'll take some getting used to That said, my diet - now that I've learned what NOT to eat right before going out for the evening - is largely the same as it was beforehand. But expect some ...um... changes in the processing, shall we say. Rest up, grope some nurses, and enjoy all the jello!! |

Hey all, thanks so much for the kind words and thoughts. What's become massively obvious is that I've gotta change several things in my life. Dietarily, I've never really bothered to follow a "diabetic" diet, and yes, I likes me a beer or 3. From now on I gotta learn the foods I should eat, and work the learning curve of things that my body will be processing differently. Fine wine occasionally, given that's part of my job, no more cheap beer. Why live this life consuming less than the best? My job takes a LOT out of me every shift, but I enjoy it, and the money's good. Gotta figure that out ASAP, this is gonna hit my bank account HARD. All I know is that I'll get this all worked out, and if not this month, yes, maybe October. (a)- Get healthy (b)- Get back to WORK (c)- Get back in the saddle. Thanks again all- I'll be going under the knife/robot tomorrow at 11AM. Wish me luck. |

Freya bless you. My only advice is A. Get off the opiates as soon as you can. But. Pain is your body telling you ya did something stupid. You'll want to take your meds as directed. No hero crap. Pain interferes with healing, so take the above advice with a grain of salt. I found I could not remember when I took my meds. So I kept a log, just a note pad. When & how much. Then it's right there under the bottles so I didn't skip it or double up. Your reactions will be different. B. I know time/money pressure is a bear in your head. Take the time you need to heal from the incision. It's a major trauma and stuff has to reset. You will think you are ready in a week. Not so much. I was always ready to jump back in the horse too soon. YMMV. C. OBEY the physical therapist. They KNOW. Funny thing about my first knee surgery, I'm logging the meds, listening to the torturer, (seriously, I fall for physical therapists, I always get cute girls, whip smart & compassionate. ) & I want to Drive! PT looks at me like an idiot. "You can't drive, you're on opiates!" Um. Duh. 45 plus years of first aid training, first responder training, I'm keeping a Freaking Log of my drug use, and it never once occurred to me I shouldn't operate heavy machinery!!!! Dope makes me stupid. Duh. |

Thanks Vern. Just passed the 12PM no water/food/etc. hour, had my last BIG snack session at 1030, all stuff that'll hold me til after the surgery. I'll see how things shake down going towards ABF, chances are I'll sit this one out. I've had to skip these for less important reasons... Thanks again all, let's get some ZZZZ's. |

... sore, loopy, but HOME. I slept well last nite despite being in a hospital bed, but I'm looking SO forward to my own bed. Sweetie is now at K Roger getting my meds. Got a horrible case of dry mouth from whatever they gave me at the hospital... Time to get settled back in, REST, and see what the next few days bring. Got lots to think about. Again, you guys just rock... what I've just dealt with is a whole lotta nuthin' compared to Dave and so many others here... but it just proves we're a band of brothers once again. All my love and thanks to youn's. I'll see y'all either sooner or later. |
