Donald Trump's place of work is NOT a gun-free zone. He is surrounded not only by handguns, but by some very nice automatic weapons as well.

Visit the White House.

Make a sudden move.

Let us know how that works out for ya, kiddo.

More people are stabbed to death every year than are murdered with rifles.

A person is more likely to be bludgeoned to death with a blunt object or beaten to death with hands and feet than to be murdered with a rifle.

hmmm....let's see THAT make it to the mainstream media...

The irony...

If you bring up simple statistics on homicides, death rates, and weapons used in crimes, the "liberals" make accusations of using doctored or misleading statistics...even if they're direct from the FBI, CDC, or DOJ. They are truly impossible.

They like to use this country or that country as an example...like that has any relevance...and there's typically no evidence that "gun control" has done squat to improve their murder rates long term. The rates of robberies and physical assaults always go up.

"Gun control" isn't some magic fix-all for societal ills, though they all firmly believe so.

I have zero data to support this . . .but it **seems** that the greatest problems with gun, in America, is in the cities with the strictest gun laws. . . . .

I could be wrong.

No, Court, you are correct.

My favorite " other countries" reality is Switzerland. Every adult male is in the armed forces. Reserves, militia, pick a term. It's more organized and official than the U.S. which has each adult male citizen as the militia and remember this is well over 230 years ago.... so our brave women weren't obligated.

So nearly every house, every apartment building, has military firearms. Not sure the Swiss squad formation but figure one in six homes has a crew served machine gun. & the same have tripods, extra ammo, & a personal weapon.

Very low rate of gun crime.

The one thing that access to guns by private citizens has as a negative is suicide. Alas, owning a gun makes it easier to kill yourself. The theory is that the ease of suicide takes less time and with less time there are fewer who have time to change their minds. It's sad, and has hit me personally. Not going to dwell on it here. Depression is real. Psychiatric drugs are wonders. And killers.

We'd save dozens, maybe hundreds of people a year if guns magically disappear. Millions would die however without the means to defend themselves against thugs with clubs, knives, machetes, etc. Also. Magic. Wizards are fictional, Harry.

So an "awoke" population and better mental health care would save hundreds. Just sending the cops to take people's guns if they have problems is a very poor answer. Break up with a crazy lady/guy and be accused of being abusive? & lose your rights? Hard problems. No easy answers. ( & I'm in favor of wife beaters being isolated from society. Preferably on an island. One of those pretty ones north of Alaska. )

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/03/thou ghts-from-the-ammo-line-209.php

Later this week I'm going shopping for a rifle. A Ruger #1 by choice. Caliber preference? The local shop had one in .458 Winchester Magnum. Dies & a new loading press if so. With a single shot reloading can almost keep up. Do I need an elephant gun? Heck no. The only game animal I want to shoot is chucks. Unless I finally get to go on Safari. Someplace exotic like Montana. Wherever prairie dogs are overpopulated.

If the .458 is gone, and it could be, there's a fascination with elephant guns as an object of nostalgia and exotic trips out of proportion to usefulness, then I'll keep shopping. And know the odds are good that .458 will be back on the wall once it's new owner bruises himself in his search for touching the exotic past.

And I've got a reloading article that gives a practice load for easy plinking with cast bullets.

My choice as an airline pilot, if I lacked handgun ability would be a FN P-90 assuming low penetration ammo is available. There is pistol ammo designed for low penetration for Air Marshals and others who have that concern. ( shot in a polymer capsule filled with food safe goo.)

It's funny to read that plastic bullets or bullet parts are food safe. But "poison bullets" isn't just horrible P.R., it's a Bad Idea.

Btw. Not everyone can shoot hand guns well. I think that skill and talent are distinct aspects. For example, I lack artistic talent. You want a portrait? See someone else. I learned the skill of mechanical drawing. For blueprints I'm ok.

If you lack talent, you tend not to bother trying to be skilled. Because it's frustrating. Ask generations of parents with kids about music lessons.

I hope the secret service is investigating this blatantly obvious threat against the president's life. Trump is the least tyrannical (read most law abiding) president we've had in decades.

The National Interest on the "most "Dangerous rifles on planet earth."

They're just general issue infantry rifles. A couple are nice. A couple are widely used. One totally sucks.

The premise is completely unsubstantiated.

Rick. I'm guessing you are not a SA80 fan. : )

I'll take your point and extend. Every one of those assault rifles are wimpy compromises made by bean counters and in ballistics and fire power are inferior to WW2 arms.

The ability of every one to fire full auto is far less an advantage than gun phobe/hater/liars would think. The American infantry squad of WW2 with a BAR and Garand rifles would have no problem dealing with concrete block building as found in the Middle East, while a modern squad certainly does. You can argue that the German light machine guns was a better choice than the BAR, and complain that the M1 Carbine wasn't the best man stopper, but all in all, the increase in lethality of U.S. troops in the last few decades owes little to the gun, and almost all to training.

That website is so full of feces it's amazing. Deliberate lies and propaganda. Bite me.

I've never seen one in person or handled one, but if H&K can't fully fix your problematic rifle, you've got problems.

To be fair, the modern arms are optimized for typical engagement distances. Everything is a compromise.

I agree that full auto and "full semi automatic" is overblown.

It has very limited utility in a rifle.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "nobody needs and AR-15" or "guns are only made for killing" in the past several days.

I even had a family member by marriage call me a child killing racist backwater hick. It's like, we've gone shooting and I'm one of those persons of color you're supposed to love and support, right? What a-holery.

Nobody needs a Cadillac or Mercedes either. And it's none of my business that you drive an S class when your needs would be equally met by a Focus.

The war on you is just ramping up. It's going to get much uglier. Families are breaking up over politics like I haven't seen since Stalin. Children in school are being asked to inform on their parents and told not to tell their parents about their indoctrination as good little Hillary Youth. ( the traditional dagger is absent because we're too woke. )

It's not paranoid when they freaking tell you they're after you.

I'm going to predict an app like Alexa & Siri that is mandatory but free that not only watches the kid's surfing and buying habits but feeds video and audio direct to the company. It will give advice and indoctrination instruction to kids. Track their Social score.

The Social score system is already in use in China.

http://thefederalist.com/2018/03/22/how-the-second -amendment-prevents-tyranny/

Well worth the read.

Federalist 46.... mentioned above, has been the subject of discussion. A very bright young man argued to me that the Army, with tanks and helicopters would be invincible against the common guy.

My argument is, True, in a stand up fight, holding barricades like Le Miserable against 120 mm smooth bore tank guns would be a slaughter. But only college idiots trained in Marxist disruption tactics against a polite and hamstrung campus police would be so foolish. Veterans and hunters would snipe from cover. No troop would dare to stick their heads out of armored vehicles. Beer bottle Molotov cocktails would fry the tanks. And the real killers would be nowhere near the distraction fighting, but would be hunting down the politicians who ordered the illegal war on Americans. In a matter of days only the President locked behind the White House gates surrounded by IFVs, & a few Congressmen hiding behind armed guards at Mt. Weather or Camp David would be left to continue ordering the illegal actions. They couldn't go home, couldn't campaign, couldn't go to a restaurant, without their location being spread on Social media and the nearest patriot nailing them from a distance or across the street.

That would leave the remaining members to gather and stop the purge, or be targeted themselves.

Sure. I can't stand in front of a tank. I certainly can use a shotgun in a parking garage. Or a bar. Ask any vet about urban warfare. No one in Afghanistan worried about a stream of tanks rolling over our lines. It was the guy walking down the street that was scary. Any guy.

* the above discussion is not intended as a call to violence against any U.S. citizen. Nor a threat against any law abiding citizen. Just a speculation based on historical example.

Beyond all of that, our military is sworn to follow the Constitution, not the President when his orders are in conflict with the Constitution. Ordering military action would be a clear violation of the Constitution. How many Generals would turn those powerful weapons against those ordering them to turn on the people? I sincerely hope we never have to test how that would all play out.
